Estimates for measures of lower dimensional sections of convex bodies

We present an alternative approach to some results of Koldobsky on measures of sections of symmetric convex bodies, which allows us to extend them to the not necessarily symmetric setting. We prove that if $K$ is a convex body in ${\mathbb R}^n$ with $0\in {\rm int}(K)$ and if $μ$ is a measure on ${\mathbb R}^n$ with a locally integrable non-negative density $g$ on ${\mathbb R}^n$, then \begin{equation*}μ(K)\leq \left (c\sqrt{n-k}\right )^k\max_{F\in G_{n,n-k}}μ(K\cap F)\cdot |K|^{\frac{k}{n}}\end{equation*} for every $1\leq k\leq n-1$. Also, if $μ$ is even and log-concave, and if $K$ is a symmetric convex body in ${\mathbb R}^n$ and $D$ is a compact subset of ${\mathbb R}^n$ such that $μ(K\cap F)\leq μ(D\cap F)$ for all $F\in G_{n,n-k}$, then \begin{equation*}μ(K)\leq \left (ckL_{n-k}\right )^{k}μ(D),\end{equation*} where $L_s$ is the maximal isotropic constant of a convex body in ${\mathbb R}^s$. Our method employs a generalized Blaschke-Petkantschin formula and estimates for the dual affine quermassintegrals.

Geometry of the $L_q$-centroid bodies of an isotropic log-concave measure

We study some geometric properties of the $L_q$-centroid bodies $Z_q(μ)$ of an isotropic log-concave measure $μ$ on ${\mathbb R}^n$. For any $2\ls q\ls\sqrt{n}$ and for $\varepsilon \in (\varepsilon_0(q,n),1)$ we determine the inradius of a random $(1-\varepsilon)n$-dimensional projection of $Z_q(μ)$ up to a constant depending polynomially on $\varepsilon $. Using this fact we obtain estimates for the covering numbers $N(\sqrt{\smash[b]{q}}B_2^n,tZ_q(μ))$, $t\gr 1$, thus showing that $Z_q(μ)$ is a $β$-regular convex body. As a consequence, we also get an upper bound for $M(Z_q(μ))$.

A remark on the slicing problem

The purpose of this article is to describe a reduction of the slicing problem to the study of the parameter I_1(K,Z_q^o(K))=\int_K ||< :, x> ||_{L_q(K)}dx. We show that an upper bound of the form I_1(K,Z_q^o(K))\leq C_1q^s\sqrt{n}L_K^2, with 1/2\leq s\leq 1, leads to the estimate L_n\leq \frac{C_2\sqrt[4]{n}log(n)} {q^{(1-s)/2}}, where L_n:= max {L_K : K is an isotropic convex body in R^n}.

A note on subgaussian estimates for linear functionals on convex bodies

We give an alternative proof of a recent result of Klartag on the existence of almost subgaussian linear functionals on convex bodies. If $K$ is a convex body in ${\mathbb R}^n$ with volume one and center of mass at the origin, there exists $x\neq 0$ such that $$|\{y\in K: |< y,x> |\gr t\|<\cdot, x>\|_1\}|\ls\exp (-ct^2/\log^2(t+1))$$ for all $t\gr 1$, where $c>0$ is an absolute constant. The proof is based on the study of the $L_q$--centroid bodies of $K$. Analogous results hold true for general log-concave measures.
