Symmetry energy and neutron-proton radii studies with a Wigner-Heisenberg monopole-monopole interaction

The symmetry energy in nuclei is studied using a monopole-monopole two boby interaction which has an isospin dependent term. A Hartree theory is developed for this interaction which has an oscillator shell model basis with corresponding shell structure. The role of shell structure on the symmetry energy is then studied. We also find that the strength of the Heisenberg interaction is very important for understanding the difference between proton and neutron radii and features associated with halo nuclei. Isospin and isospin/strangeness correlations in relativistic heavy ion collisions

A fundamental symmetry of nuclear and particle physics is isospin whose third component is the Gell-Mann/Nishijima expression I(z)=Q-(B+S)/2 . The role of isospin symmetry in relativistic heavy ion collisions is studied. An isospin I(z), strangeness S correlation is shown to be a direct and simple measure of flavor correlations, vanishing in a Qg phase of uncorrelated flavors in both symmetric N=Z and asymmetric N not equal to Z systems. By contrast, in a hadron phase, a I(z)/S correlation exists as long as the electrostatic charge chemical potential mu(Q)does not equal 0 as in N not equal to Z asymmetric systems. A parallel is drawn with a Zeeman effect which breaks a spin degeneracy

Obtaining the Specific Heat of Hadronic Matter from CERN/RHIC Experiments

The specific heat of hot hadronic matter is related to particle production yields from experiments done at CERN/RHIC. The mass fluctuation of excited hadrons plays an important role. Connections of the specific heat, mean hadronic mass excited and its fluctuation with properties of baryon and electric chemical potentials (value, slope and curvature) are also developed. A possible divergence of the specific heat as 1/(To-T)^2 is discussed. Some connections with net charge fluctuations are noted.
