A Computational Companion to Transient de Sitter and Quasi de Sitter States in SO(32) and E_8 X E_8 Heterotic String Theories I: Formalisms

We construct four-dimensional de Sitter space as an excited state, rather than as a vacuum configuration, in type IIB, heterotic SO(32), and heterotic E_8 \times E_8 string theories. This framework provides a mechanism to evade vacuum-based no-go theorems for de Sitter solutions in string theory. Starting from a generic M-theory configuration, we obtain de Sitter isometry in the dual string theories through appropriate dynamical duality sequences in the late-time limit. The excited state, identified as a Glauber-Sudarshan state, is constructed as the expectation value of the metric operator in M-theory using path-integral techniques. We further analyze the conditions required for the existence of a well-defined effective field theory description and show that these conditions are equivalent to the null energy condition for a (3+1)-dimensional FLRW cosmology. Finally, we investigate constraints arising from axionic cosmology and demonstrate how the time-dependent solutions are modified when experimental bounds on the axionic coupling constant are taken into account. This article serves as a computational companion to sections 3 and 4 of the paper arXiv:2511.03798 [hep-th].

Transient de Sitter and Quasi de Sitter States in SO(32) and E_8 x E_8 Heterotic String Theories

One of the long-standing puzzles in string theory has been on the existence of a four-dimensional de Sitter and quasi de Sitter configurations, the latter being defined with a temporally varying dark energy, in E_8 x E_8 and SO(32) heterotic theories. In this work, novel dynamical duality-sequences are devised that provide natural constructions of de Sitter and quasi de Sitter excited states in the aforementioned theories allowing no late-time singularities. The emergent positive dark energies -- including the intriguing possibility of their slow temporal variations -- appear from Borel resumming Gevrey series from the path-integral representations of such states. Additionally, precise ways to handle the equations of motion, Bianchi identities, flux quantizations and anomaly cancellations -- consistent with the underlying axionic cosmology, with the temporal dependence, and with the probability of forming wormholes that connect baby universes -- are presented for the SO(32) and the E_8 x E_8 theories within a framework that systematically incorporates perturbative and non-perturbative corrections in the far infrared. The temporally varying dark energy, which is much more natural in our set-up because of its emergent nature, surprisingly simplifies many of the aforementioned computations. Interestingly, our analysis also provides, probably for the first time, a set-up to consistently embed four-dimensional standard model degrees of freedom at late time in a realistic gravitational background with positive dark energy from string theory.

Flat connections at infinity on knot surgery manifolds

$\rm SL(2,\mathbb{C})$ Chern-Simons theory on a closed 3-manifold is one of the most interesting, yet tractable examples of a QFT. On one hand, its non-perturbative structure is not yet fully understood; on the other, the mathematical structure turns out to be very rich. In this work we explore the new phenomenon of flat connections at infinity on various knot surgery manifolds. Such flat connections can be understood as asymptotic ends in the non-compact moduli space of flat $\rm SL(2,\mathbb{C})$ connections. We focus on the examples of $\pm 1/r$-surgeries on torus, twist and some double twist knot complements in $S^3$. Surprisingly, our findings suggest that flat connections at infinity are abundant even for simple low-crossing knot surgeries. We therefore believe that their presence would shed light on the resurgent nature of the path integral.

de Sitter Excited State in Heterotic E_8 x E_8 Theory

We devise a novel duality sequence to study late-time cosmology in the heterotic E_8 x E_8 setup of Horava and Witten with dynamical walls that are moving towards each other. Surprisingly, we find that the dimensionally reduced four-dimensional theory does not violate NEC and therefore we do not see either a bouncing or an ekpyrotic phase. Instead, our four-dimensional setup shows a transient de Sitter phase that lies well within the trans-Planckian bound. This opens up a myriad of possibilities of addressing both phenomenological and cosmological issues, and here we concentrate on one such interesting model, an axionic cosmology with temporally varying axionic coupling.

de Sitter State in Heterotic String Theory

Recent no-go theorems have ruled out four-dimensional classical de Sitter vacua in heterotic string theory. On the other hand, the absence of a well-defined Wilsonian effective action and other related phenomena also appear to rule out such time-dependent vacua with de Sitter isometries, even in the presence of quantum corrections. In this note, we argue that a four-dimensional de Sitter space can still exist in SO(32) heterotic string theory as a Glauber-Sudarshan state, i.e. as a coherent state, over a supersymmetric Minkowski background, albeit within a finite temporal domain. Borel resummation and resurgence play a crucial role in constructing such a state in the Hilbert space of heterotic theory governed entirely by the IR degrees of freedom.

Late time dynamics in SUSY saddle-dominated scrambling through higher-point OTOC

In this article, we study the scrambling dynamics in supersymmetric quantum mechanical systems. The eigenstate representation of such supersymmetric systems allows us to present an explicit form of the $2N$-point out-of-time-order correlator (OTOC) using two equivalent formalisms viz. "Tensor Product formalism" and "Partner Hamiltonian formalism". We analytically compute the $2N$-point OTOC for the supersymmetric 1D harmonic oscillator and find that the result is in exact agreement with that of the OTOC of the 1D bosonic harmonic oscillator system. The higher-point OTOC is a more sensitive measure of scrambling than the usual 4-point OTOC. To demonstrate this feature, we consider a supersymmetric sextic 1D oscillator for which the bosonic partner system has an unstable saddle in the phase space, which is absent in the fermionic counterpart. For such a system we show that the bosonic, the fermionic as well as the supersymmetric OTOC exhibit similar dynamics due to supersymmetry constraints. Finally, we illustrate the late-time oscillatory behaviour of higher-point OTOC for saddle-dominated scrambling and anharmonic oscillator systems and propose it to be a probe of late-time dynamics in non-chaotic systems that exhibit fast early-time scrambling.

$U(N)$ Torus Link Invariants in the Large $N$ limit from Matrix Model Approach

In this paper we study $U(N)$ colored HOMFLY-PT polynomials of torus links in the double scaling limit (polynomial variable $q\rightarrow 1$, $N\rightarrow \infty$ keeping $q^N$ fixed). We show that, in this limit, the colored HOMFLY-PT polynomial of any $(Lα,Lβ)$ torus link can be expressed in terms of the colored HOMFLY-PT polynomial of $(L,L)$ torus link. Using the connection between matrix models and the Chern-Simons field theoretic invariants, we show that the colored torus link invariants are uniquely expressed in terms of connected correlation functions of operators in $U(N)$ matrix model. We determine the leading and subleading contribution to some of the correlators at large $N$ from the matrix model approach and find that they match exactly with those obtained from the corresponding colored HOMFLY-PT polynomials.

Coherent States in M-Theory: A Brane Scan using the Taub-NUT

The Taub-NUT geometry corresponds to the Kaluza-Klein monopole solution of M-theory and on dimension reduction along the Taub-NUT circle direction it becomes the D6 brane of type IIA string theory. We show that the Taub-NUT geometry can be realised as a coherent state, or more appropriately as a Glauber-Sudarshan state in M-theory, once we take the underlying resurgence structure carefully. Using the duality chain it in turn implies that all D-branes as well as NS5-branes can be realised as Glauber-Sudarshan states in string theory. Our analysis also leads to an intriguing possibility of realizing the gravity duals of certain non-conformal minimally-supersymmetric gauge theories by deforming a class of Glauber-Sudarshan states.

The Generalized OTOC from Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics: Study of Random Fluctuations from Eigenstate Representation of Correlation Functions

The concept of out-of-time-ordered correlation (OTOC) function is treated as a very strong theoretical probe of quantum randomness, using which one can study both chaotic and non-chaotic phenomena in the context of quantum statistical mechanics. In this paper, we define a general class of OTOC, which can perfectly capture quantum randomness phenomena in a better way. Further we demonstrate an equivalent formalism of computation using a general time independent Hamiltonian having well defined eigenstate representation for integrable supersymmetric quantum systems. We found that one needs to consider two new correlators apart from the usual one to have a complete quantum description. To visualize the impact of the given formalism we consider the two well known models viz. Harmonic Oscillator and one dimensional potential well within the framework of supersymmetry. For the Harmonic Oscillator case we obtain similar periodic time dependence but dissimilar parameter dependences compared to the results obtained from both micro-canonical and canonical ensembles in quantum mechanics without supersymmetry. On the other hand, for one dimensional potential well problem we found significantly different time scale and the other parameter dependence compared to the results obtained from non-supersymmetric quantum mechanics. Finally, to establish the consistency of the prescribed formalism in the classical limit, we demonstrate the phase space averaged version of the classical version of OTOCs from a model independent Hamiltonian along with the previously mentioned these well cited models.
