Preheating and oscillon formation in Einstein-scalar-Gauss-Bonnet gravity

Non-perturbative processes in the early universe may create overdense structures in scalar fields like the inflaton, called oscillons. In this work, we explore whether the leading order higher derivative contributions to the scalar-tensor theory change the formation and growth of these structures, and investigate the limits in which the effective field theory (EFT) description breaks down. We find that whilst the properties of the oscillons are not significantly modified, and black holes do not generically form, for large couplings the period of formation can result in the evolution leaving the regime of validity of the EFT, at which point predictivity is lost and the next order terms in the EFT should become relevant. If the oscillons survive their formation, they tend to be stable and the EFT corrections remain bounded. The EFT breakdown is triggered by large curvature terms in the metric in the densest regions of the oscillon, meaning that approximations of such modified theories that neglect the local backreaction and non-linear dynamics of the fields may miss important effects.

GRTresna: An open-source code to solve the initial data constraints in numerical relativity

GRTresna is a multigrid solver designed to solve the constraint equations for the initial data required in numerical relativity simulations. In particular, it is focussed on scenarios with fundamental fields around black holes and inhomogeneous cosmological spacetimes. The code is based on the formalism in Aurrekoetxea, Clough \& Lim arXiv:2207.03125 and can be found at https://github.com/GRTLCollaboration/GRTresna

Mixing Particle Production for Relaxion Mechanism

We consider the production of two heavy gauge bosons as a relaxation stopping mechanism. In this work, we analyse the conditions for a tachyonic mode for a linear combination of gauge bosons and show that the criteria are significantly different than the single gauge boson case. Moreover, the implementation of the mechanism on the $U(1)'$ model is demonstrated. We discuss various constraints for the relaxion mechanism. The phenomenology of the heavy gauge boson is also explored. We finally show a benchmark point of parameter space considering all constraints from relaxion and the $U(1)'$ mixing sector.

Dark Matter and Dark Energy from a Kaluza-Klein inspired Brans-Dicke Gravity with Barotropic Fluid

We study the Kaluza-Klein inspired Brans-Dicke model with barotropic matter. Following from our previous work, the traditional Kaluza-Klein gravity action is introduced with an additional scalar field and 2 gauge fields. The compactification process results in a Brans-Dicke model with a dilaton coupled to the tower of scalar fields whereas a gauge field from 5-dimensional metric forms a set of mutually orthogonal vectors with 2 additional gauge fields. The barotropic matter is then introduced to complete a realistic set up. To demonstrate the analytical solutions of the model, we consider the case in which only 2 lowest modes becoming relevant for physics at low scale. After derivation, equations of motion and Einstein field equations form a set of autonomous system. The dynamical system is analysed to obtain various critical points. Interestingly, by only inclusion of barotropic matter, the model provides us the critical points which capable of determining the presences of dark matter, dark energy and phantom dark energy.

Inflation from $f(R)$ theories in gravity's rainbow

In this work, we study the $f(R)$ models of inflation in the context of gravity's rainbow theory. We choose three types of $f(R)$ models: $f(R)=R+\alpha (R/M)^{n},\,f(R)=R+\alpha R^{2}+\beta R^{2}\log(R/M^{2})$ and the Einstein-Hu-Sawicki model with $n,\,\alpha,\,\beta$ being arbitrary real constants. Here $R$ and $M$ are the Ricci scalar and mass scale, respectively. For all models, the rainbow function is written in the power-law form of the Hubble parameter. We present a detailed derivation of the spectral index of curvature perturbation and the tensor-to-scalar ratio and compare the predictions of our results with the latest Planck 2018 data. With the sizeable number of e-foldings and proper choices of parameters, we discover that the predictions of all $f(R)$ models present in this work are in excellent agreement with the Planck analysis.
