Dunkl Operators and Canonical Invariants of Reflection Groups

Using Dunkl operators, we introduce a continuous family of canonical invariants of finite reflection groups. We verify that the elementary canonical invariants of the symmetric group are deformations of the elementary symmetric polynomials. We also compute the canonical invariants for all dihedral groups as certain hypergeometric functions.

Noncommutative Dunkl operators and braided Cherednik algebras

We introduce braided Dunkl operators that are acting on a q-polynomial algebra and q-commute. Generalizing the approach of Etingof and Ginzburg, we explain the q-commutation phenomenon by constructing braided Cherednik algebras for which the above operators form a representation. We classify all braided Cherednik algebras using the theory of braided doubles developed in our previous paper. Besides ordinary rational Cherednik algebras, our classification gives new algebras attached to an infinite family of subgroups of even elements in complex reflection groups, so that the corresponding braided Dunkl operators pairwise anti-commute. We explicitly compute these new operators in terms of braided partial derivatives and divided differences.

Lie algebras and Lie groups over noncommutative rings

The aim of this paper is to introduce and study Lie algebras and Lie groups over noncommutative rings. For any Lie algebra $\gg$ sitting inside an associative algebra $A$ and any associative algebra $\FF$ we introduce and study the algebra $(\gg,A)(\FF)$, which is the Lie subalgebra of $\FF \otimes A$ generated by $\FF \otimes \gg$. In many examples $A$ is the universal enveloping algebra of $\gg$. Our description of the algebra $(\gg,A)(\FF)$ has a striking resemblance to the commutator expansions of $\FF$ used by M. Kapranov in his approach to noncommutative geometry. To each algebra $(\gg, A)(\FF)$ we associate a ``noncommutative algebraic'' group which naturally acts on $(\gg,A)(\FF)$ by conjugations and conclude the paper with some examples of such groups.

Braided Symmetric and Exterior Algebras

We introduce and study symmetric and exterior algebras in braided monoidal categories such as the category O for quantum groups. We relate our braided symmetric algebras and braided exterior algebas with their classical counterparts.

Quasiharmonic polynomials for Coxeter groups and representations of Cherednik algebras

We introduce and study deformations of finite-dimensional modules over rational Cherednik algebras. Our main tool is a generalization of usual harmonic polynomials for Coxeter groups -- the so-called quasiharmonic polynomials. A surprising application of this approach is the construction of canonical elementary symmetric polynomials and their deformations for all Coxeter groups.

Geometric and unipotent crystals II: From unipotent bicrystals to crystal bases

For each reductive algebraic group G we introduce and study unipotent bicrystals which serve as a regular version of birational geometric and unipotent crystals introduced earlier by the authors. The framework of unipotent bicrystals allows, on the one hand, to study systematically such varieties as Bruhat cells in G and their convolution products and, on the other hand, to give a new construction of many normal Kashiwara crystals including those for G^\vee-modules, where G^\vee is the Langlands dual groups. In fact, our analogues of crystal bases (which we refer to as crystals associated to G^\vee-modules) are associated to G^\vee-modules directly, i.e., without quantum deformations. One of the main results of the present paper is an explicit construction of the crystal B_0 for the coordinate ring of the (Langlands dual) flag variety based on the positive unipotent bicrystal on the open Bruhat cell. Our general tropicalization procedure assigns to each strongly positive unipotent bicrystal a normal Kashiwara crystal B equipped with the multiplicity erasing homomorphism B--> B_0 and the combinatorial central charge B--> Z which is invariant under all crystal operators.

Geometric and unipotent crystals

In this paper we introduce geometric crystals and unipotent crystals which are algebro-geometric analogues of Kashiwara's crystal bases. Given a reductive group G, let I be the set of vertices of the Dynkin diagram of G and T be the maximal torus of G. The structure of a geometric G-crystal on an algebraic variety X consists of a rational morphism γ:X-->T and a compatible family e_i:G_m\times X-->X, i\in I of rational actions of the multiplicative group G_m satisfying certain braid-like relations. Such a structure induces a rational action of W on X. Quite surprisingly, many interesting rational actions of the group W come from geometric crystals. Also all the known examples of the action of W which appear in the construction of gamma-functions for the representations of ^LG in the recent work by A. Braverman and D. Kazhdan come from geometric crystals. There are many examples of positive geometric crystals on (G_m)^l, i.e., those geometric crystals for which the actions e_i and the morphism γare given by positive rational expressions. To each positive geometric crystal X we associate a Kashiwara's crystal corresponding to the Langlands dual group ^LG. An emergence of ^LG in the "crystal world" was observed earlier by G. Lusztig. Another application of geometric crystals is a construction of trivialization which is an W-equivariant isomorhism X-->γ^{-1}(e) \times T for any geometric SL_n-crystal. Unipotent crystals are geometric analogues of normal Kashiwara crystals. They form a strict monoidal category. To any unipotent crystal built on a variety X we associate a certain gometric crystal.

Quantum cluster algebras

Cluster algebras were introduced by S. Fomin and A. Zelevinsky in math.RT/0104151; their study continued in math.RA/0208229, math.RT/0305434. This is a family of commutative rings designed to serve as an algebraic framework for the theory of total positivity and canonical bases in semisimple groups and their quantum analogs. In this paper we introduce and study quantum deformations of cluster algebras.

Cluster algebras III: Upper bounds and double Bruhat cells

We continue the study of cluster algebras initiated in math.RT/0104151 and math.RA/0208229. We develop a new approach based on the notion of an upper cluster algebra, defined as an intersection of certain Laurent polynomial rings. Strengthening the Laurent phenomenon from math.RT/0104151, we show that, under an assumption of "acyclicity", a cluster algebra coincides with its "upper" counterpart, and is finitely generated. In this case, we also describe its defining ideal, and construct a standard monomial basis. We prove that the coordinate ring of any double Bruhat cell in a semisimple complex Lie group is naturally isomorphic to the upper cluster algebra explicitly defined in terms of relevant combinatorial data.

Tensor product multiplicities, canonical bases and totally positive varieties

We obtain a family of explicit "polyhedral" combinatorial expressions for multiplicities in the tensor product of two simple finite-dimensional modules over a complex semisimple Lie algebra. Here "polyhedral" means that the multiplicity in question is expressed as the number of lattice points in some convex polytope. Our answers use a new combinatorial concept of $\ii$-trails which resemble Littelmann's paths but seem to be more tractable. We also study combinatorial structure of Lusztig's canonical bases or, equivalently of Kashiwara's global bases. Although Lusztig's and Kashiwara's approaches were shown by Lusztig to be equivalent to each other, they lead to different combinatorial parametrizations of the canonical bases. One of our main results is an explicit description of the relationship between these parametrizations. Our approach to the above problems is based on a remarkable observation by G. Lusztig that combinatorics of the canonical basis is closely related to geometry of the totally positive varieties. We formulate this relationship in terms of two mutually inverse transformations: "tropicalization" and "geometric lifting."

Coadjoint orbits, moment polytopes, and the Hilbert-Mumford criterion

Consider a compact Lie group and a closed subgroup. Generalizing a result of Klyachko, we give a necessary and sufficient criterion for a coadjoint orbit of the subgroup to be contained in the projection of a given coadjoint orbit of the ambient group. The criterion is couched in terms of the ``relative'' Schubert calculus of the flag varieties of the two groups.

Domino tableaux, Schutzenberger involution, and the symmetric group action

We define an action of the symmetric group on the set of domino tableaux, and prove that the number of domino tableaux of a given weight does not depend on the permutation of components of the last. A bijective proof of the well-known result due to J. Stembridge that the number of self-evacuating tableaux of a given shape is equal to that of domino tableaux of the same shape is given.

Group-like elements in quantum groups, and Feigin's conjecture

Let $A$ be an arbitrary symmetrizable Cartan matrix of rank $r$, and ${\bf n}={\bf n_+}$ be the standard maximal nilpotent subalgebra in the Kac-Moody algebra associated with $A$ (thus, ${\bf n}$ is generated by $E_1,\ldots,E_r$ subject to the Serre relations). Let $\hat U_q({\bf n})$ be the completion (with respect to the natural grading) of the quantized enveloping algebra of ${\bf n}$. For a sequence ${\bf i}=(i_1,\ldots,i_m)$ with $1\le i_k\le r$, let $P_{\bf i}$ be a skew polynomial algebra generated by $t_1,\ldots,t_m$ subject to the relations $t_lt_k=q^{C_{i_k,i_l}}t_kt_l$ ($1\le k<l\le m$) where $C=(C_{ij})=(d_ia_{ij})$ is the symmetric matrix corresponding to $A$. We construct a group-like element ${\bf e}_{\bf i}\in P_{\bf i}\bigotimes \hat U_q({\bf n})$. This element gives rise to the evaluation homomorphism $ψ_{\bf i}:{\bf C}_q[N]\to P_{\bf i}$ given by $ψ_{\bf i}(x)=x({\bf e}_{\bf i})$, where ${\bf C}_q[N]=U_q({\bf n})^0$ is the restricted dual of $U_q({\bf n})$. Under a well-known isomorphism of algebras ${\bf C}_q[N]$ and $U_q({\bf n})$, the map $ψ_{\bf i}$ identifies with Feigin's homomorphism $Φ({\bf i}): U_q({\bf n})\to P_{\bf i}$. We prove that the image of $ψ_{\bf i}$ generates the skew-field of fractions ${\cal F}(P_{\bf i})$ if and only if ${\bf i}$ is a reduced expression of some element $w$ in the Weyl group $W$; furthermore, in the latter case, ${\rm Ker}~ψ_{\bf i}$ depends only on $w$ (so we denote $I_w:={\rm Ker}~ψ_{\bf i}$). This result generalizes the results in [5], [6] to the case of Kac-Moody algebras. We also construct an element ${\cal R}_w\in \big({\bf C}_q[N]/I_w\big)\bigotimes \hat U_q({\bf n})$ which specializes to ${\bf e}_{\bf i}$ under the embedding ${\bf C}_q[N]/I_w\hookrightarrow P_{\bf i}$. The elements ${\cal R}_w$ are closely
