Supersensitive rotation sensor from superintegrability

Detection based on quantum principles such as entanglement has the capacity to achieve finessed levels of sensitivity, bringing transformative impacts to applications. In this study, we propose a rotation sensor using ultra-cold dipolar atoms trapped in a four-well configuration. The design, based on a simple population imbalance measurement to quantify rotation, profits from the property of superintegrability. The implementation of the measurement protocol achieves rotation-detection sensitivity beyond the Heisenberg limit. Our results spotlight superintegrability opportunities for advancing the field of quantum sensing.

Control of tunneling in an atomtronic switching device

The precise control of quantum systems will play a major role in the realization of atomtronic devices. As in the case of electronic systems, a desirable property is the ability to implement switching. Here we show how to implement switching in a model of dipolar bosons confined to three coupled wells. The model describes interactions between bosons, tunneling of bosons between adjacent wells, and the effect of an external field. We conduct a study of the quantum dynamics of the system to probe the conditions under which switching behavior can occur. The analysis considers both integrable and non-integrable regimes within the model. Through variation of the external field, we demonstrate how the system can be controlled between various switched-on and switched-off configurations.

Emergent quantum phases in a heteronuclear molecular Bose--Einstein condensate model

We study a three-mode Hamiltonian modelling a heteronuclear molecular Bose--Einstein condensate. Two modes are associated with two distinguishable atomic constituents, which can combine to form a molecule represented by the third mode. Beginning with a semi-classical analogue of the model, we conduct an analysis to determine the phase space fixed points of the system. Bifurcations of the fixed points naturally separate the coupling parameter space into different regions. Two distinct scenarios are found, dependent on whether the imbalance between the number operators for the atomic modes is zero or non-zero. This result suggests the ground-state properties of the model exhibit an unusual sensitivity on the atomic imbalance. We then test this finding for the quantum mechanical model. Specifically we use Bethe ansatz methods, ground-state expectation values, the character of the quantum dynamics, and ground-state wavefunction overlaps to clarify the nature of the ground-state phases. The character of the transition is smoothed due to quantum fluctuations, but we may nonetheless identify the emergence of a quantum phase boundary in the limit of zero atomic imbalance.

Integrable Impurity Spin Ladder Systems

Two integrable spin ladder systems with different types of impurities are proposed. The impurities are introduced in such a way that the integrability of the models is not violated. The models are solved exactly and the Bethe ansatz equations as well as the energy eigenvalues are obtained. We show for both models that a phase transition between gapped and gapless spin excitations occurs at a critical value of the rung coupling J. In addition, the dependence of the impurities on this phase transition is determined explicitly. Remarkably, in one of the models a decreasing of the spin gap with increasing impurity strength is found.

Integrable generalised spin ladder models based on the SU(1|3) and SU(3|1) algebras

We present two integrable spin ladder models which possess a general free parameter besides the rung coupling J. The models are exactly solvable by means of the Bethe ansatz method and we present the Bethe ansatz equations. We analyse the elementary excitations of the models which reveal the existence of a gap for both models that depends on the free parameter.

Integrable generalised spin ladder models

We present two new integrable spin ladder models which posses three general free parameters besides the rung coupling J. Wang's systems based on the SU(4) and SU(3/1) symmetries can be obtained as special cases. The models are exactly solvable by means of the Bethe ansatz method.

Algebraic properties of an integrable t-J model with impurities

We investigate the algebraic structure of a recently proposed integrable $t-J$ model with impurities. Three forms of the Bethe ansatz equations are presented corresponding to the three choices for the grading. We prove that the Bethe ansatz states are highest weight vectors of the underlying $gl(2|1)$ supersymmetry algebra. By acting with the $gl(2|1)$ generators we construct a complete set of states for the model.
