Integration Barriers in Open-Source SSI Frameworks: An Exploratory Developer Experience Probe

Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) promises to decentralize digital identity, but widespread adoption remains hindered by integration complexity and tooling immaturity. This paper investigates the Developer Experience (DX) of open-source SSI tooling through an exploratory probe study. Nine developers with prior knowledge of decentralized identity concepts, representing early integrators building SSI applications, attempted core credential lifecycle tasks using Walt.id, Traction, and MetaMask. Our goal was to surface recurring integration barriers through qualitative thematic analysis of open-ended developer reports, complemented by task-level difficulty ratings. Our findings reveal a critical abstraction gap: while passive operations like credential receipt are relatively mature, active construction tasks, particularly schema customization, expose significant architectural friction. We identify that these barriers stem from inadequate API abstractions, brittle environment configurations, and documentation that fails to track the ecosystem's rapid evolution. These issues reflect structural design decisions in current frameworks. This study characterizes the structural integration barriers in the current SSI open-source ecosystem. To address the identified gaps, we propose three architectural shifts for developer tooling: web-based sandboxes, AI-assisted schema generators, and executable documentation strategies.

User-Centric Health Data Using Self-sovereign Identities

This article presents the potential use of the Self-Sovereign Identities (SSI), combining with Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT), to improve the privacy and control of health data. The paper presents the SSI technology, lists the prominent use cases of decentralized identities in the health area, and discusses an effective blockchain-based architecture. The main contributions of the article are: (i) mapping SSI general and abstract concepts, e.g., issuers and holders, to the health domain concepts, e.g., physicians and patients; (ii) creating a correspondence between the SSI interactions, e.g., issue and verify a credential, and the US standardized set of health use cases; (iii) presenting and instantiating an architecture to deal with the use cases mentioned, effectively organizing the data in a user-centric way, that uses well-known SSI and Blockchain technologies.

Vulnerabilities and Open Issues of Smart Contracts: A Systematic Mapping

Smart Contracts (SCs) are programs stored in a Blockchain to ensure agreements between two or more parties. Due to the unchangeable essence of Blockchain, failures or errors in SCs become perpetual once published. The reliability of SCs is essential to avoid financial losses. So, SCs must be checked to ensure the absence of errors. Hence, many studies addressed new methods and tools for zero-bug software in SCs. This paper conducted a systematic literature mapping identifying initiatives and tools to analyze SCs and how to deal with the identified vulnerabilities. Besides, this work identifies gaps that may lead to research topics for future work.

A Systematic Review of Security in the LoRaWAN Network Protocol

The age of the Internet of Things is adding an increasing number of new devices to the Internet and is expected to have fifty billion connected units by 2021. These form an extensive network that may have multiple points where there is a risk of attacks that can compromise the entire system. This paper has conducted a systematic review of security in LoRaWAN protocol specification versions 1.0 and 1.1 by locating its vulnerabilities and determining what measures can be taken for improvement and how they can be checked or tested. The review identifies nineteen areas of vulnerability in the LoRaWAN protocol and shows that the current studies focus on specification version 1.0, key management, and authentication procedures.

Eletronic Health Records using Blockchain Technology

Data privacy refers to ensuring that users keep control over access to information, whereas data accessibility refers to ensuring that information access is unconstrained. Conflicts between privacy and accessibility of data are natural to occur, and healthcare is a domain in which they are particularly relevant. In the present article, we discuss how blockchain technology, and smart contracts, could help in some typical scenarios related to data access, data management and data interoperability for the specific healthcare domain. We then propose the implementation of a large-scale information architecture to access Electronic Health Records (EHRs) based on Smart Contracts as information mediators. Our main contribution is the framing of data privacy and accessibility issues in healthcare and the proposal of an integrated blockchain based architecture.
