Soliton dynamics for the Korteweg-de Vries equation with multiplicative homogeneous noise

We consider a randomly perturbed Korteweg-de Vries equation. The perturbation is a random potential depending both on space and time, with a white noise behavior in time, and a regular, but stationary behavior in space. We investigate the dynamics of the soliton of the KdV equation in the presence of this random perturbation, assuming that the amplitude of the perturbation is small. We estimate precisely the exit time of the perturbed solution from a neighborhood of the modulated soliton, and we obtain the modulation equations for the soliton parameters. We moreover prove a central limit theorem for the dispersive part of the solution, and investigate the asymptotic behavior in time of the limit process.

Modified energy for split-step methods applied to the linear Schrödinger equation

We consider the linear Schrödinger equation and its discretization by split-step methods where the part corresponding to the Laplace operator is approximated by the midpoint rule. We show that the numerical solution coincides with the exact solution of a modified partial differential equation at each time step. This shows the existence of a modified energy preserved by the numerical scheme. This energy is close to the exact energy if the numerical solution is smooth. As a consequence, we give uniform regularity estimates for the numerical solution over arbitrary long time

Long-time behavior in scalar conservation laws

We consider the long-time behavior of the entropy solution of a first-order scalar conservation law on a Riemannian manifold. In the case of the Torus, we show that, under a weak property of genuine non-linearity of the flux, the solution converges to its average value in $L^{p}$, $1\leq p<+\infty$. We give a partial result in the general case.

On the martingale probem associated to the 2D and 3D Stochastic Navier-Stokes equations

We consider the martingale problem associated to the Navier-Stokes in dimension 2 or 3. Existence is well known and it has been recently shown that markovian transition semi group associated to these equations can be constructed. We study the Kolmogorov operator associated to these equations. It can be defined formally as a differential operator on an infinite dimensional Hilbert space. It can be also defined in an abstract way as the infinitesimal generator of the transition semi group. We explicit cores for these abstract operators and identify them with the concrete differential operators on these cores. In dimension 2, the core is explicit and we can use a classical argument to prove uniqueness for the martingale problem. In dimension 3, we are only able to exhibit a core which is defined abstractly and does not allow to prove uniqueness for the martingale problem. Instead, we exhibit a core for a modified Kolmogorov operator which enables us to prove uniqueness for the martingale problem up to the time the solutions are regular.

Weak approximation of stochastic partial differential equations: the non linear case

We study the error of the Euler scheme applied to a stochastic partial differential equation. We prove that as it is often the case, the weak order of convergence is twice the strong order. A key ingredient in our proof is Malliavin calculus which enables us to get rid of the irregular terms of the error. We apply our method to the case a semilinear stochastic heat equation driven by a space-time white noise.

Small noise asymptotic of the timing jitter in soliton transmission

We consider the problem of the error in soliton transmission in long-haul optical fibers caused by the spontaneous emission of noise inherent to amplification. We study two types of noises driving the stochastic focusing cubic one dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation which appears in physics in that context. We focus on the fluctuations of the mass and arrival time or timing jitter. We give the small noise asymptotic of the tails of these two quantities for the two types of noises. We are then able to prove several results from physics among which the Gordon--Haus effect which states that the fluctuation of the arrival time is a much more limiting factor than the fluctuation of the mass. The physical results had been obtained with arguments difficult to fully justify mathematically.

Weak order for the discretization of the stochastic heat equation

In this paper we study the approximation of the distribution of $X_t$ Hilbert--valued stochastic process solution of a linear parabolic stochastic partial differential equation written in an abstract form as $$ dX_t+AX_t dt = Q^{1/2} d W_t, \quad X_0=x \in H, \quad t\in[0,T], $$ driven by a Gaussian space time noise whose covariance operator $Q$ is given. We assume that $A^{-α}$ is a finite trace operator for some $α>0$ and that $Q$ is bounded from $H$ into $D(A^β)$ for some $β\geq 0$. It is not required to be nuclear or to commute with $A$. The discretization is achieved thanks to finite element methods in space (parameter $h>0$) and implicit Euler schemes in time (parameter $Δt=T/N$). We define a discrete solution $X^n_h$ and for suitable functions $ϕ$ defined on $H$, we show that $$ |\E ϕ(X^N_h) - \E ϕ(X_T) | = O(h^{2γ} + Δt^γ) $$ \noindent where $γ<1- α+ β$. Let us note that as in the finite dimensional case the rate of convergence is twice the one for pathwise approximations.

Conservative stochastic Cahn--Hilliard equation with reflection

We consider a stochastic partial differential equation with reflection at 0 and with the constraint of conservation of the space average. The equation is driven by the derivative in space of a space--time white noise and contains a double Laplacian in the drift. Due to the lack of the maximum principle for the double Laplacian, the standard techniques based on the penalization method do not yield existence of a solution. We propose a method based on infinite dimensional integration by parts formulae, obtaining existence and uniqueness of a strong solution for all continuous nonnegative initial conditions and detailed information on the associated invariant measure and Dirichlet form.

Ergodicity for the weakly damped stochastic non-linear Schrödinger equations

We study a damped stochastic non-linear Schrödinger (NLS) equation driven by an additive noise. It is white in time and smooth in space. Using a coupling method, we establish convergence of the Markovian transition semi-group toward a unique invariant probability measure. This kind of method was originally developped to prove exponential mixing for strongly dissipative equations such as the Navier-Stokes equations. We consider here a weakly dissipative equation, the damped nonlinear Schrödinger equation in the one dimensional cubic case. We prove that the mixing property holds and that the rate of convergence to equilibrium is at least polynomial of any power.

Markov solutions for the 3D stochastic Navier--Stokes equations with state dependent noise

We construct a Markov family of solutions for the 3D Navier-Stokes equation perturbed by a non degenerate noise. We improve the result of [DPD-NS3D] in two directions. We see that in fact not only a transition semigroup but a Markov family of solutions can be constructed. Moreover, we consider a state dependant noise. Another feature of this work is that we greatly simplify the proofs of [DPD-NS3D].

Blow-up for the stochastic nonlinear Schrodinger equation with multiplicative noise

We study the influence of a multiplicative Gaussian noise, white in time and correlated in space, on the blow-up phenomenon in the supercritical nonlinear Schrodinger equation. We prove that any sufficiently regular and localized deterministic initial data gives rise to a solution which blows up in arbitrarily small time with a positive probability.
