Uniform Gaussian Approximation for The Quasi-Likelihood Estimator for a Weakly Dependent Nonlinear Time Series Models

We study estimation and inference for a semiparametric class of time series models that specify only the conditional expectation, which is a known link function applied to a linear combination of past observations and covariates. The class covers count, binary, bounded and conditionally heteroskedastic responses within a single formulation, and the parameter is estimated by a quasi-likelihood estimating equation based on the first conditional moment. Under stationarity and a weak-dependence condition expressed through the functional dependence measure, we establish two results. First, using a Fuk--Nagaev inequality for weakly dependent sequences, we show that the estimator is localized in a shrinking neighbourhood of the true value with probability $1-o(n^{-1/2})$. Second, combining a Berry--Esseen bound for weakly dependent sequences with a Gaussian anti-concentration argument to control the remainder of the linear expansion, we obtain a Berry--Esseen bound for linear projections of the estimator, uniform over projection directions. From the projected bound we derive studentized confidence intervals with explicit coverage error and a conservative Bonferroni test for linear hypotheses on the parameters. For real data analysis, we extend the Beta autoregression for double-bounded data to an arbitrary link given by the inverse of a distribution function, and apply it to ten pairwise realized correlations of large-cap technology-stock returns, using Nasdaq and Dow~Jones index returns as covariates.

Functional Central Limit Theorem and SPDE for epidemic model with memory of the last infection and waning immunity

We study the fluctuations of a stochastic epidemic model with memory of the last infections, varying infectivity, and waning immunity, as introduced in Guerin and Zotsa-Ngoufack:arXiv preprint arXiv:2505.00601. The dynamics of the epidemic model are described by a measure-valued process with respect to infection age and individual traits. The Functional Law of Large Numbers (FLLN) is formulated as an integral equation, which is solved by a deterministic measure. In this article, we establish the Functional Central Limit Theorem (FCLT), capturing the fluctuations of the stochastic model around its deterministic limit. The limit of the FCLT is given by a nonlinear stochastic integral equation which is solved by a random signed-measure. We further derive the weak solution in the form of a stochastic partial differential equation (SPDE) and propose an alternative representation of the FCLT, as fluctuations in the average total force of infection and average susceptibility.

A stochastic epidemic model with memory of the last infection and waning immunity

We adapt the article of Forien, Pang, Pardoux and Zotsa: Arxiv preprint Arxiv2210.04667(2022), on epidemic models with varying infectivity and waning immunity, to incorporate the memory of the last infection. To this end, we introduce a parametric approach and consider a piecewise deterministic Markov process modeling both the evolution of the parameter, also called the trait, and the age of infection of individuals over time. At each new infection, a new trait is randomly chosen for the infected individual according to a Markov kernel, and their age is reset to zero. In the large population limit, we derive a partial differential equation (PDE) that describes the density of traits and ages. The main goal is to study the conditions under which endemic equilibria exist for the deterministic PDE model and to establish an endemicity threshold that depends on the model parameters. The local stability of these equilibria is also analyzed. The endemicity threshold is computed for several examples, including models that incorporate a vaccination policy, and a local stability result is obtained for a memory-free SIS-type model.

Stochastic epidemic models with varying infectivity and waning immunity

We study an individual-based stochastic epidemic model in which infected individuals become susceptible again following each infection. In contrast to classical compartment models, after each infection, the infectivity is a random function of the time elapsed since one's infection. Similarly, recovered individuals become gradually susceptible after some time according to a random susceptibility function. We study the large population asymptotic behaviour of the model, by proving a functional law of large numbers (FLLN) and investigating the endemic equilibria properties of the limit. The limit depends on the law of the susceptibility random functions but only on the mean infectivity functions. The FLLN is proved by constructing a sequence of i.i.d. auxiliary processes and adapting the approach from the theory of propagation of chaos. The limit is a generalisation of a PDE model introduced by Kermack and McKendrick, and we show how this PDE model can be obtained as a special case of our FLLN limit.% for a particular set of infectivity and susceptibility random functions and initial conditions. For the endemic equilibria, if $ R_0 $ is lower than (or equal to) some threshold, the epidemic does not last forever and eventually disappears from the population, while if $ R_0 $ is larger than this threshold, the epidemic will not disappear and there exists an endemic equilibrium. The value of this threshold turns out to depend on the harmonic mean of the susceptibility a long time after an infection, a fact which was not previously known.
