NuSTAR View of the 2025 Mini-Outburst of the Black Hole X-ray Binary GRS 1739-278: Spectral and Timing Evolution in the Soft State

We present a dedicated timing and spectral analysis of three NuSTAR observations of the Galactic black hole candidate GRS 1739-278 obtained during the decay of its 2025 mini-outburst (September 18-30, 2025). The source is found in a soft, disk-dominated state throughout, with a declining $3$-$79$ keV count rate (from $112.4$ to $99.4$ cts s$^{-1}$), a low and only mildly evolving hardness ratio ($\approx0.14$-$0.16$) and a fractional variability that drops from $3.2\%$ to $1.1\%$; no periodic or quasi-periodic signal is detected in the power spectrum or the Lomb-Scargle periodogram of any observation. Joint FPMA+FPMB spectral fits with an absorbed disk-blackbody plus thermal-Comptonization continuum, together with a broad, high-significance ($11.7$-$15.0σ$) curvature feature near $10$-$12$ keV (an empirical proxy for a strong disk-reflection/returning-radiation component) describe the $4$-$30$ keV spectra well ($χ^2/{\rm dof}=1.04$-$1.15$). The inner-disk temperature cools steadily from $1.021\pm0.001$ to $1.002^{+0.003}_{-0.002}$ keV while the disk normalization and hence the derived inner radius, $R_{\rm in}\simeq27.7$ km $\simeq0.95\,R_{ISCO}$ remains constant to within $0.3\%$, consistent with a disk anchored at the innermost stable circular orbit throughout. The unabsorbed $4$-$30$ keV luminosity declines from $1.35\times10^{37}$ to $1.15\times10^{37}$ erg s$^{-1}$ ($0.67\%$ to $0.57 L_{Edd}$). These results of the spectral-timing characterization of the 2025 mini-outburst are broadly consistent with a high-spin black hole accreting at a low, steadily declining rate in the canonical soft state.

AstroSat Observation of Recent Outburst in the Be/X-ray Binary LS V +4417/RX J0440.9+4431

A Be/X-ray binary system known as RX J0440.9+4431 (or LS V +44 17) is a potential member of the uncommon gamma-ray binary class. With an orbital period of 150 days, this system consists of a neutron star and a Be star companion. The MAXI observatory discovered an X-ray outburst from the source in December of 2022. Early in January, the outburst reached its peak, which was then followed by a decrease and a subsequent rebrightening. The X-ray flux exceeded 1 Crab in the 15-50 keV range at this second peak. AstroSat observations were conducted close to the peak of the second outburst, from January 11 to January 12, 2023. We report here the results of our search for 3-80 keV X-ray emission in the data of the AstroSat's LAXPC detector. It is found that the pulse period of the source is around 208 seconds. The source is found to be emitting more in the softer part of the X-ray energy range. The spectral characteristics can be described by employing a power-law model with an exponential cutoff, along with a blackbody component, interstellar absorption and an additional 6.4 keV iron fluorescence line.

Joint User Association and BS Switching Scheme for Green Heterogeneous Cellular Network

A dense deployment of on-grid small cell base stations (SBSs) in a heterogeneous cellular network (HCN) results in large power consumption which can be reduced by utilizing harvested energy from scavenge sources. Recently, a new layout for HCN with energy harvesting-SBSs (EH-SBSs) has been proposed to reduce inter-cell interference and power consumption; and increase system energy efficiency. In this paper, an energy efficient joint user association and BS on-off scheme for an HCN having diverse energy source(s) is proposed, which aims at utilizing the harvested energy efficiently in order to reduce the on-grid power consumption. The scheme operates in two phases. First, it decides which BS should be in off, sleep or active mode and iteratively updates its transmit power based on energy arrival and consumption, to minimize interference and on-grid power consumption. Secondly, for further reduction in on-grid power consumption, the user discovers and associates itself with the nearest available EH-SBS. The system energy consumption for the proposed scheme is numerically evaluated using Monte Carlo simulations. Simulation results reveal that the proposed scheme shows significantly better results as compared to other schemes in the literature in terms of grid power consumption and energy efficiency.
