Integral Gauss formula and the Poisson equation for the $G_2$-Laplacian

We produce a formula, analogous to the Gauss-Codazzi equation, which relates the geometry of a $G_2$-structure and its Hodge Laplacian to the geometry of the induced $SU(3)$-structure on an embedded hypersurface. As an application, we obtain necessary conditions for the solvability of the Poisson equation for (not necessarily closed) $G_2$-structures in a neighbourhood of this hypersurface. Next, we prove that our conditions are sufficient in the cohomogeneity one setting, assuming the symmetry group is compact and simple.

Classification of irreducible unitary modules over $\mathfrak{u}(p,q|n)$

We classify all irreducible highest-weight unitary modules over the non-compact real form $\mathfrak{u}(p,q|n)$ of the general linear Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{gl}_{p+q|n}$. The classification is given by explicit necessary and sufficient conditions on the highest weights, and our approach combines the Howe duality for $\mathfrak{gl}_{p+q|n}$ with a quadratic invariant of the maximal compact subalgebra. Using this classification result, we also classify all irreducible lowest-weight unitary modules over $\mathfrak{u}(p,q|n)$ via duality, and all irreducible unitary modules over $\mathfrak{u}(n|q,p)$ via an isomorphism of Lie superalgebras.

Einstein metrics on homogeneous superspaces

This paper initiates the study of the Einstein equation on homogeneous supermanifolds. First, we produce explicit curvature formulas for graded Riemannian metrics on these spaces. Next, we present a construction of homogeneous supermanifolds by means of Dynkin diagrams, resembling the construction of generalised flag manifolds in classical (non-super) theory. We describe the Einstein metrics on several classes of spaces obtained through this approach. Our results provide examples of compact homogeneous supermanifolds on which the Einstein equation has no solutions, discrete families of solutions, and continuous families of Ricci-flat solutions among invariant metrics. These examples demonstrate that the finiteness conjecture from classical homogeneous geometry fails on supermanifolds, and challenge the intuition furnished by Bochner's vanishing theorem.

Hermitian metrics with vanishing second Chern Ricci curvature

We describe a rigidity phenomenon exhibited by the second Chern Ricci curvature of a Hermitian metric on a compact complex manifold. This yields a characterisation of second Chern Ricci-flat Hermitian metrics on several types of manifolds as well as a range of non-existence results for such metrics.

On the variational properties of the prescribed Ricci curvature functional

We study the prescribed Ricci curvature problem for homogeneous metrics. Given a (0,2)-tensor field $T$, this problem asks for solutions to the equation $\mathrm{Ric}(g)=cT$ for some constant $c$. Our approach is based on examining global properties of the scalar curvature functional whose critical points are solutions to this equation. We produce conditions for a general homogeneous space under which it has a global maximum. Finally, we study the behavior of the functional in specific examples to illustrate our result.

Palais-Smale sequences for the prescribed Ricci curvature functional

We obtain a complete description of divergent Palais-Smale sequences for the prescribed Ricci curvature functional on compact homogeneous spaces. As an application, we prove the existence of saddle points on generalized Wallach spaces and several types of generalized flag manifolds. We also describe the image of the Ricci map in some of our examples.

The Prescribed Ricci Curvature Problem for Homogeneous Metrics

The prescribed Ricci curvature problem consists in finding a Riemannian metric $g$ on a manifold $M$ such that the Ricci curvature of $g$ equals a given $(0,2)$-tensor field $T$. We survey the recent progress on this problem in the case where $M$ is a homogeneous space.

Ricci iteration on homogeneous spaces

The Ricci iteration is a discrete analogue of the Ricci flow. We give the first study of the Ricci iteration on a class of Riemannian manifolds that are not Kähler. The Ricci iteration in the non-Kähler setting exhibits new phenomena. Among them is the existence of so-called ancient Ricci iterations. As we show, these are closely related to ancient Ricci flows and provide the first nontrivial examples of Riemannian metrics to which the Ricci operator can be applied infinitely many times. In some of the cases we study, these ancient Ricci iterations emerge (in the Gromov--Hausdorff topology) from a collapsed Einstein metric and converge smoothly to a second Einstein metric. In the case of compact homogeneous spaces with maximal isotropy, we prove a relative compactness result that excludes collapsing.

On the Ricci iteration for homogeneous metrics on spheres and projective spaces

We study the Ricci iteration for homogeneous metrics on spheres and complex projective spaces. Such metrics can be described in terms of modifying the canonical metric on the fibers of a Hopf fibration. When the fibers of the Hopf fibration are circles or spheres of dimension 2 or 7, we observe that the Ricci iteration as well as all ancient Ricci iterations can be completely described using known results. The remaining and most challenging case is when the fibers are spheres of dimension 3. On the 3-sphere itself, using a result of Hamilton on the prescribed Ricci curvature equation, we establish existence and convergence of the Ricci iteration and confirm in this setting a conjecture on the relationship between ancient Ricci iterations and ancient solutions to the Ricci flow. In higher dimensions we obtain sufficient conditions for the solvability of the prescribed Ricci curvature equation as well as partial results on the behavior of the Ricci iteration.

Maxima of Curvature Functionals and the Prescribed Ricci Curvature Problem on Homogeneous Spaces

Consider a compact Lie group $G$ and a closed Lie subgroup $H<G$. Let $\mathcal M$ be the set of $G$-invariant Riemannian metrics on the homogeneous space $M=G/H$. By studying variational properties of the scalar curvature functional on $\mathcal M$, we obtain an existence theorem for solutions to the prescribed Ricci curvature problem on $M$. To illustrate the applicability of this result, we explore cases where $M$ is a generalised Wallach space and a generalised flag manifold.

The Prescribed Ricci Curvature Problem on Homogeneous Spaces with Intermediate Subgroups

Consider a compact Lie group $G$ and a closed subgroup $H 0$ such that the Ricci curvature of $g$ equals $cT$ for a given $T\in\mathcal M$. This condition is also necessary if the isotropy representation of $M$ splits into two inequivalent irreducible summands. Immediate and potential applications include new existence results for Ricci iterations.

Metrics with Prescribed Ricci Curvature on Homogeneous Spaces

Let $G$ be a compact connected Lie group and $H$ a closed subgroup of $G$. Suppose the homogeneous space $G/H$ is effective and has dimension 3 or higher. Consider a $G$-invariant, symmetric, positive-semidefinite, nonzero (0,2)-tensor field $T$ on $G/H$. Assume that $H$ is a maximal connected Lie subgroup of $G$. We prove the existence of a $G$-invariant Riemannian metric $g$ and a positive number $c$ such that the Ricci curvature of $g$ coincides with $cT$ on $G/H$. Afterwards, we examine what happens when the maximality hypothesis fails to hold.

The Dirichlet Problem for the Prescribed Ricci Curvature Equation on Cohomogeneity One Manifolds

Let $M$ be a domain enclosed between two principal orbits on a cohomogeneity one manifold $M_1$. Suppose $T$ and $R$ are symmetric invariant (0,2)-tensor fields on $M$ and $\partial M$, respectively. The paper studies the prescribed Ricci curvature equation $\mathrm{Ric}(G)=T$ for a Riemannian metric $G$ on $M$ subject to the boundary condition $G_{\partial M}=R$ (the notation $G_{\partial M}$ here stands for the metric induced by $G$ on $\partial M$). Imposing a standard assumption on $M_1$, we describe a set of requirements on $T$ and $R$ that guarantee global and local solvability.

The Ricci Flow on Domains in Cohomogeneity One Manifolds

Suppose $G$ is a compact Lie group, $H$ is a closed subgroup of $G$, and the homogeneous space $G/H$ is connected. The paper investigates the Ricci flow on a manifold $M$ diffeomorphic to $[0,1]\times G/H$. First, we prove a short-time existence and uniqueness theorem for a $G$-invariant solution $g(t)$ satisfying the boundary condition $\mathop{\mathrm{II}}(g(t))=F(t,g_{\partial M}(t))$ and the initial condition $g(0)=\hat g$. Here, $\mathop{\mathrm{II}}(g(t))$ is the second fundamental form of $\partial M$, $g_{\partial M}$ is the metric induced on $\partial M$ by $g(t)$, $F$ is a smooth map and $\hat g$ is a metric on $M$. Second, we study Perelman's $\mathcal F$-functional on $M$. Our results show, roughly speaking, that $\mathcal F$ is non-decreasing on a $G$-invariant solution to the modified Ricci flow, provided that this solution satisfies boundary conditions inspired by the 2012 paper of Gianniotis.
