Teukolsky on slowly-rotating Kerr-de Sitter in the vanishing $\Lambda$ limit

As a first step towards resolving a vanishing cosmological constant black hole stability conjecture, we prove energy, Morawetz and rp-weighted estimates for solutions to the Teukolsky equations on a slowly-rotating Kerr-de Sitter background, which we derive using an extension of the non-integrable formalism of [GKS24]. The main feature of our estimates is their uniformity with respect to the cosmological constant $\Lambda>0$ (thus allowed to tend to 0), while they hold on the whole domain of outer communications, extending up to $\Lambda^{-\frac{1}{2}}$. As an application of our result, we recover well-known corresponding estimates for solutions to Teukolsky on a slowly-rotating Kerr background in the limit $\Lambda\to 0$.

Wave turbulence for a semilinear Klein-Gordon system

In this article we consider a system of two Klein-Gordon equations, set on the $d$-dimensional box of size $L$, coupled through quadratic semilinear terms of strength $\varepsilon$ and evolving from well-prepared random initial data. We rigorously derive the effective dynamics for the correlations associated to the solution, in the limit where $L\to\infty$ and $\varepsilon\to 0$ according to some power law. The main novelty of our work is that, due to the absence of invariances, trivial resonances always take precedence over quasi-resonances. The derivation of the nonlinear effective dynamics is justified up time to $\delta T$ , where $T =\varepsilon^{-2}$ is the appropriate timescale and $\delta$ is independent of $L$ and $\varepsilon$. We use Feynmann interaction diagrams, here adapted to a normal form reduction and to the coupled nature of our real-valued system. We also introduce a frequency decomposition at the level of the diagrammatic and develop a new combinatorial tool which allows us to work with the Klein-Gordon dispersion relation.

Spacelike initial data for black hole stability

We construct initial data suitable for the Kerr stability conjecture, that is, solutions to the constraint equations on a spacelike hypersurface with boundary entering the black hole horizon that are arbitrarily decaying perturbations of a Kerr initial data set. This results from a more general perturbative construction on any asymptotically flat initial data set with the topology of $\mathbb{R}^3\setminus\{r<1\}$ enjoying some analyticity near and at the boundary. In particular, we design a suitable mixed boundary condition for the elliptic operator of the conformal method in order to exclude the Killing initial data sets (KIDS).

The reverse Burnett conjecture for null dusts

Given a regular solution $\mathbf{g}_0$ of the Einstein-null dusts system without restriction on the number of dusts, we construct families of solutions $(\mathbf{g}_\lambda)_{\lambda\in(0,1]}$ of the Einstein vacuum equations such that $\mathbf{g}_\lambda-\mathbf{g}_0$ and $\partial(\mathbf{g}_\lambda-\mathbf{g}_0)$ converges respectively strongly and weakly to 0 when $\lambda\to0$. Our construction, based on a multiphase geometric optics ansatz, thus extends the validity of the reverse Burnett conjecture without symmetry to a large class of massless kinetic spacetimes. In order to deal with the finite but arbitrary number of direction of oscillations we work in a generalised wave gauge and control precisely the self-interaction of each wave but also the interaction of waves propagating in different null directions, relying crucially on the non-linear structure of the Einstein vacuum equations. We also provide the construction of oscillating initial data solving the vacuum constraint equations and which are consistent with the spacetime ansatz.

Initial data for Minkowski stability with arbitrary decay

We construct and parametrize solutions to the constraint equations of general relativity in a neighborhood of Minkowski spacetime with arbitrary prescribed decay properties at infinity. We thus provide a large class of initial data for the results on stability of Minkowski which include a mass term in the asymptotics. Due to the symmetries of Minkowski, a naive linear perturbation fails. Our construction is based on a simplified conformal method, a reduction to transverse traceless perturbations and a nonlinear fixed point argument where we face linear obstructions coming from the cokernels of both the linearized constraint operator and the Laplace operator. To tackle these obstructions, we introduce a well-chosen truncated black hole around which to perturb. The control of the parameters of the truncated black hole is the most technical part of the proof, since its center of mass and angular momentum could be arbitrarily large.

Geometric optics approximation for the Einstein vacuum equations

We show the stability of the geometric optics approximation in general relativity by constructing a family $(g_λ)_{λ\in(0,1]}$ of high-frequency metrics solutions to the Einstein vacuum equations in 3+1 dimensions without any symmetry assumptions. In the limit $λ\to 0$ this family approaches a fixed background $g_0$ solution of the Einstein-null dust system, illustrating the backreaction phenomenon. We introduce a precise second order high-frequency ansatz and identify a generalised wave gauge as well as polarization conditions at each order. The validity of our ansatz is ensured by a weak polarized null condition satisfied by the quadratic non-linearity in the Ricci tensor. The Einstein vacuum equations for $g_λ$ are recast as a hierarchy of transport and wave equations, and their coupling induces a loss of derivatives. In order to solve it, we take advantage of a null foliation associated to $g_0$ as well as a Fourier cut-off adapted to our ansatz. The construction of high-frequency initial data solving the constraint equations is the content of our companion paper \cite{Touati2023a}.

High-frequency solutions to the constraint equations

We construct high-frequency initial data for the Einstein vacuum equations in dimension 3+1 by solving the constraint equations on $\mathbb{R}^3$. Our family of solutions $(\bar{g}_λ,K_λ)_{λ\in(0,1]}$ is defined through a high-frequency expansion similar to the geometric optics approach and is close in a particular sense to the data of a null dust. In order to solve the constraint equations, we use their conformal formulation and the main challenge of our proof is to adapt this method in the high-frequency context. The main application of this article is our companion article \cite{Touati2022a} where we construct high-frequency gravitational waves in generalised wave gauge.

Global existence of high-frequency solutions to a semi-linear wave equation with a null structure

We study the propagation of a compactly supported high-frequency wave through a semi-linear wave equation with a null structure. We prove that the self-interaction of the wave creates harmonics which remain close to the light-cone in the evolution. By defining a well-chosen ansatz, we describe precisely those harmonics. Moreover, by applying the vector field method to the equation for the remainder in the ansatz, we prove that the solution exists globally. The interaction between the dispersive decay of waves and their high-frequency behaviour is the main difficulty, and the latter is not compensated by smallness of the initial data, allowing us to consider the high-frequency limit where the wavelength tends to 0.

Einstein vacuum equations with $\mathbb{U}(1)$ symmetry in an elliptic gauge : local well-posedness and blow-up criterium

In this article, we are interested in the Einstein vacuum equations on a Lorentzian manifold displaying $\mathbb{U}(1)$ symmetry. We identify some freely prescribable initial data, solve the constraint equations and prove the existence of a unique and local in time solution at the $H^3$ level. In addition, we prove a blow-up criterium at the $H^2$ level. Our main objective is to provide a framework adapted to the study of high-frequency solutions to the Einstein vacuum equations done in a forthcoming paper by Huneau and Luk. As a consequence we work in an elliptic gauge, particularly adapted to the handling of high-frequency solutions, which have large high-order norms.
