Effects of curvature and interactions on the dynamics of the deconfinement phase transition

We study the dynamics of first-order cofinement-deconfinement phase transition through nucleation of hadronic bubbles in an expanding quark gluon plasma in the context of heavy ion collisions for interacting quark and hadron gas and by incorporating the effects of curvature energy. We find that the interactions reduce the delay in the phase transition whereas the curvature energy has a mixed behavior. In contrast to the case of early Universe phase transition, here lower values of surface tension increase the supercooling and slow down the hadronization process. Higher values of bag pressure tend to speed up the transition. Another interesting feature is the start of the hadronization process as soon as the QGP is created.

Heavy quark production via leptoquarks at a neutrino factory

The proposed neutrino factory (NF) based on a muon storage ring (MSR) is an ideal place to look for heavy quark production via neutral current (NC) and charged current (CC) interactions. In this article, we address the issue of contribution coming from mediating leptoquarks (LQ) in $ν_μ(\barν_e)-{\rm N}$ interactions leading to the production of $b(\bar b)$ at a MSR and investigate the region where LQ interactions are significant in the near-site experiments.

Leptoquark Signals via $ν$ interactions at Neutrino Factories

The accurate prediction of neutrino beam produced in muon decays and the absence of opposite helicity contamination for a particular neutrino flavour makes a future neutrino factory (NF) based on a muon storage ring (MSR), the ideal place to look for the lepton flavour violating (LFV) effects. In this paper, we address the contribution of mediating LFV leptoquarks (LQ) in $ν(\barν)-{N}$ interactions leading to production of $τ$'s and wrong sign $μ$'s at MSR and investigate the region where LQ interactions are significant in the near-site and short baseline experiments.

Radial Oscillations of Hybrid Stars

We study the effect of quark and nuclear matter mixed phase on the radial oscillation modes of neutron stars. For this study we have considered recent models from two classes of equations of state namely the relativistic mean field theoretical models and models based on realistic nucleon-nucleon interactions incorporating relativistic corrections and three body nuclear interactions.

Symmetry structure and phase transitions

We study chiral symmetry structure at finite density and temperature in the presence of external magnetic field and gravity, a situation relevant in the early Universe and in the core of compact stars. We then investigate the dynamical evolution of phase transition in the expanding early Universe and possible formation of quark nuggets and their survival.

Neutrino opacity in magnetised hot and dense nuclear matter

We study the neutrino interaction rates in hot matter at high densities in the presence of uniform magnetic field. The neutrino cross-sections involving both the charged current absorption and neutral current scattering reactions on baryons and leptons have been considered. We have in particular considered the interesting case when the magnetic field is strong enough to completely polarise the protons and electrons in supernovae and neutron stars. The opacity in such a situation is considerably modified and the cross-section develops anisotropy. This has implications for phenomenon invoked in the literature to explain the observed pulsar kicks.

Electrical Conductivity at the Core of a Magnetar

An expression for the electrical conductivity at the core of a magnetar is derived using Boltzmann kinetic equation with the relaxation time approximation. The rates for the relevant scattering processes, e.g., electron-electron and electron-proton are evaluated in presence of strong quantizing magnetic fields using tree level diagrams. It is found that in presence of a strong quantizing magnetic field, electrical conductivity behaves like a second rank tensor. However, if the zeroth Landau levels are only occupied by the charged particles, it again behaves like a scaler of a one dimensional system.

Radial Oscillations of Neutron Stars in Strong Magnetic Fields

The eigen frequencies of radial pulsations of neutron stars are calculated in a strong magnetic field. At low densities we use the magnetic BPS equation of state(EOS) similar to that obtained by Lai and Shapiro while at high densities the EOS obtained from the relativistic nuclear mean field theory is taken and extended to include strong magnetic field. It is found that magnetised neutron stars support higher maximum mass where as the effect of magnetic field on radial stability for observed neutron star masses is minimal.

Photon-Neutrino Interactions in Magnetic Field through Neutrino Magnetic Moment

We study the neutrino-photon processes like $γγ\toν\barν$ in the presence of uniform external magnetic field for the case when neutrinos can couple to the electromagnetic field directly through their dipole magnetic moment and obtain the stellar energy loss. The process would be of special relevance in astrophysical situations where standard left-handed neutrinos are trapped and the right handed neutrinos produced through the spin flip interaction induced by neutrino magnetic moment alone can freely stream out.

NJL model in Four Dimension at Finite Temperature, Chemical Potentialand Curvature

Two flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with N components is studied in curved space time at finite temperature and density in the leading 1/N expansion. In four space time dimension the model exhibits first order phase transition for positive curvature. Whereas in flat space an increase in temperature induces a second order phase transition even at finite density, in curved space the transition becomes first order. We obtain the phase boundary in density-temperature plane and exhibit its behavior with changing curvature. A three dimensional plot of the phase boundary in $μ$-T-R space is drawn.

Neutrinos as Source of Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays in Extra Dimensions

If the neutrinos are to be identified with the primary source of ultra-high energy cosmic rays(UHECR), their interaction on relic neutrinos is of great importance in understanding their long intergalactic journey. In theories with large compact dimensions, the exchange of a tower of massive spin-2 gravitons (Kaluza-Klein excitations) gives extra contribution to $ν\barν \longrightarrow f\bar{f}$ and $γγ$ processes along with the opening of a new channel for the neutrinos to annihilate with the relic cosmic neutrino background $ν\barν \longrightarrow G_{kk}$ to produce bulk gravitons in the extra dimensions. This will affect their attenuation. We compute the contribution of these Kaluza-Klein excitations to the above processes and find that for parameters of the theory constrained by supernova cooling, the contribution does indeed become the dominant contribution above $\sqrt{s} \simeq 300$ GeV.

Bulk Viscosity of Magnetized Neutron Star Matter

We study the effect of magnetic field on the bulk viscosity of nuclear matter in neutron stars. We employ the framework of relativistic mean field theory to observe the dense nuclear matter in neutron stars. The effects are first studied for the case when the magnetic field does not exceed the critical value to confine the electrons to the lowest Landau levels. We then consider the case of intense magnetic field to evaluate viscosity for the URCA processes and show that the inequality $p_{F}(e)+p_{F}(p)\geq p_{F}(n)$ is no longer required to be satisfied for the URCA processes to proceed.

Chiral symmetry in linear Sigma model in magnetic environment

We study the chiral symmetry structure in a linear sigma model with fermions in the presence of an external, uniform magnetic field in the 'effective potential' approach at the one loop level. We also study the chiral phase transition as a function of density in the core of magnetized neutron stars.

Dynamical evolution of the Universe in the quark-hadron phase transition and possible nugget formation

We study the dynamics of first-order phase transition in the early Universe when it was $10-50 μs$ old with quarks and gluons condensing into hadrons. We look at how the Universe evolved through the phase transition in small as well as large super cooling scenario, specifically exploring the formation of quark nuggets and their possible survival. The nucleation of the hadron phase introduces new distance scales in the Universe, which we estimate along with the hadron fraction, temperature, nucleation time etc. It is of interest to explore whether there is a relic signature of this transition in the form of quark nuggets which might be identified with the recently observed dark objects in our galactic halo and account for the Dark Matter in the Universe at present.

Nuclear Matter in Intense Magnetic Field and Weak Processes

We study the effect of magnetic field on the dominant neutrino emission processes in neutron stars. The processes are first calculated for the case when the magnetic field does not exceed the critical value to confine electrons to the lowest Landau state. We then consider the more important case of intense magnetic field to evaluate the direct URCA and the neutronisation processes. In order to estimate the effect we derive the composition of cold nuclear matter at high densities and in beta equilibrium, a situation appropriate for neutron stars. The hadronic interactions are incorporated through the exchange of scalar and vector mesons in the frame work of relativistic mean field theory. In addition the effects of anomalous magnetic moments of nucleons are also considered.

Effect of magnetic field on electron neutrino sphere in pulsars

We study the neutrino interaction rates through charged as well as neutral current weak interactions in hot, dense magnetized matter. At densities near the neutrino sphere, matter in the presence of intense magnetic field is polarized and electrons and protons typically occupy the lowest Landau level. The weak interaction rates in such a situation are severally modified leading to a sizable change in neutrino opacity and consequently on the location of the neutrino sphere which also gets distorted. This has implications for pulsar velocity explanations.

Constraining the Right Handed Interactions from Pion Condensate Matter

We consider right handed neutrino emission from charged and neutral pion condensate matter likely to be present in the supernova core associated with SN 1987 A. This is used to constrain the strength of right handed interaction and we get excluded range of values for the right handed $W$ boson and extra neutral $Z'$ boson masses. For vanishing $W_L-W_R$ mixing we obtain $ (1.3-1.8)\,M_{W_L} \,\approx \leq\,M_{W_R} \, \leq\approx 100\, M_{W_L} \, {\rm and}\, (1.3-1.8)\,M_{W_L}\, \approx \leq \, M_{N'}\,\leq\approx \,225 \,M_{W_L}$
