Three kinds of mutation

For a finite dimensional hereditary algebra, we consider: exceptional sequences in the category of finite dimensional modules, silting objects in the bounded derived category, and m-cluster tilting objects in the m-cluster category. There are mutation operations on both the set of m-cluster tilting objects and the set of exceptional sequences. It is also possible to define a mutation operation for silting objects. We compare these three different notions of mutation.

Cluster structures from 2-Calabi-Yau categories with loops

We generalise the notion of cluster structures from the work of Buan-Iyama-Reiten-Scott to include situations where the endomorphism rings of the clusters may have loops. We show that in a Hom-finite 2-Calabi-Yau category, the set of maximal rigid objects satisfies these axioms whenever there are no 2-cycles in the quivers of their endomorphism rings. We apply this result to the cluster category of a tube, and show that this category forms a good model for the combinatorics of a type B cluster algebra.

Coloured quiver mutation for higher cluster categories

We define mutation on coloured quivers associated to tilting objects in higher cluster categories. We show that this operation is compatible with the mutation operation on the tilting objects. This gives a combinatorial approach to tilting in higher cluster categories and especially an algorithm to determine the Gabriel quivers of tilting objects in such categories.

Denominators of cluster variables

Associated to any acyclic cluster algebra is a corresponding triangulated category known as the cluster category. It is known that there is a one-to-one correspondence between cluster variables in the cluster algebra and exceptional indecomposable objects in the cluster category inducing a correspondence between clusters and cluster-tilting objects. Fix a cluster-tilting object T and a corresponding initial cluster. By the Laurent phenomenon, every cluster variable can be written as a Laurent polynomial in the initial cluster. We give conditions on T equivalent to the fact that the denominator in the reduced form for every cluster variable in the cluster algebra has exponents given by the dimension vector of the corresponding module over the endomorphism algebra of T.

Cluster structures for 2-Calabi-Yau categories and unipotent groups

We investigate cluster tilting objects (and subcategories) in triangulated 2-Calabi-Yau categories and related categories. In particular we construct a new class of such categories related to preprojective algebras of non Dynkin quivers associated with elements in the Coxeter group. This class of 2-Calabi-Yau categories contains the cluster categories and the stable categories of preprojective algebras of Dynkin graphs as special cases. For these 2-Calabi-Yau categories we construct cluster tilting objects associated with each reduced expression. The associated quiver is described in terms of the reduced expression. Motivated by the theory of cluster algebras, we formulate the notions of (weak) cluster structure and substructure, and give several illustrations of these concepts. We give applications to cluster algebras and subcluster algebras related to unipotent groups, both in the Dynkin and non Dynkin case.

Clusters and seeds in acyclic cluster algebras

We show that for cluster algebras associated with finite quivers without oriented cycles (with no coefficients), a seed is determined by its cluster, as conjectured by Fomin and Zelevinsky. We also obtain an interpretation of the monomial in the denominator of a non-polynomial cluster variable in terms of the composition factors of an indecomposable exceptional module over an associated hereditary algebra.

Cluster-tilted algebras of finite representation type

We investigate the cluster-tilted algebras of finite representation type over an algebraically closed field. We give an explicit description of the relations for the quivers for finite representation type. As a consequence we show that a (basic) cluster-tilted algebra of finite type is uniquely determined by its quiver. Also some necessary conditions on the shapes of quivers of cluster-tilted algebras of finite representation type are obtained along the way.

Cluster mutation via quiver representations

Matrix mutation appears in the definition of cluster algebras of Fomin and Zelevinsky. We give a representation theoretic interpretation of matrix mutation, using tilting theory in cluster categories of hereditary algebras. Using this, we obtain a representation theoretical interpretation of cluster mutation in case of acyclic cluster algebras of finite type.

Support varieties - an ideal approach

We define support varieties in an axiomatic setting using the prime spectrum of a lattice of ideals. A key observation is the functoriality of the spectrum and that this functor admits an adjoint. We assign to each ideal its support and can classify ideals in terms of their support. Applications arise from studying abelian or triangulated tensor categories. Specific examples from algebraic geometry and modular representation theory are discussed, illustrating the power of this approach which is inspired by recent work of Balmer.

Cluster-tilted algebras

We introduce a new class of algebras, which we call cluster-tilted. They are by definition the endomorphism algebras of tilting objects in a cluster category. We show that their representation theory is very close to the representation theory of hereditary algebras. As an application of this, we prove a generalised version of so-called APR-tilting.

Tilting theory and cluster combinatorics

We introduce a new category C, which we call the cluster category, obtained as a quotient of the bounded derived category D of the module category of a finite-dimensional hereditary algebra H over a field. We show that, in the simply-laced Dynkin case, C can be regarded as a natural model for the combinatorics of the corresponding Fomin-Zelevinsky cluster algebra. In this model, the tilting modules correspond to the clusters of Fomin-Zelevinsky. Using approximation theory, we investigate the tilting theory of C, showing that it is more regular than that of the module category itself, and demonstrating an interesting link with the classification of self-injective algebras of finite representation type. This investigation also enables us to conjecture a generalisation of APR-tilting.
