Scalar behavior for a complex multi-soliton arising in blow-up for a semilinear wave equation

This paper deals with blow-up for the complex-valued semilinear wave equation with power nonlinearity in dimension 1. Up to a rotation of the solution in the complex plane, we show that near a characteristic blow-up point, the solution behaves exactly as in the real-valued case. Namely, up to a rotation in the complex plane, the solution decomposes into a sum of a finite number of decoupled solitons with alternate signs. The main novelty of our proof is a resolution of a complex-valued first order Toda system governing the evolution of the positions and the phases of the solitons.

Classification of the blow-up behavior for a semilinear wave equation with nonconstant degenerate coefficients

We consider a nonlinear wave equation with nonconstant coefficients. In particular, the coefficient in front of the second order space derivative is degenerate. We give the blow-up behavior and the regularity of the blow-up set. Partial results are given at the origin, where the degeneracy occurs. Some nontrivial obstacles, due to the nonconstant speed of propagation, have to be surmounted.

Discontinuous Galerkin method for blow-up solutions of nonlinear 1D wave equations

We develop and study a time-space discrete discontinuous Galerkin finite elements method to approximate the solution of one-dimensional nonlinear wave equations. We show that the numerical scheme is stable if a nonuniform time mesh is considered. We also investigate the blow-up phenomena and we prove that under weak convergence assumptions, the numerical blow-up time tends toward the theoretical one. The validity of our results is confirmed throughout several numerical examples and benchmarks.

A modulation technique for the blow-up profile of the vector-valued semilinear wave equation

We consider a vector-valued blow-up solution with values in $\mathbb{R}^m$ for the semilinear wave equation with power nonlinearity in one space dimension (this is a system of PDEs). We first characterize all the solutions of the associated stationary problem as an m-parameter family. Then, we show that the solution in self-similar variables approaches some particular stationary one in the energy norm, in the non-characteristic cases. Our analysis is not just a simple adaptation of the already handled real or complex case. In particular, there is a new structure of the set a stationary solutions.

Refined regularity for the blow-up set at non characteristic points for the complex semilinear wave equation

In this paper, we consider a blow-up solution for the complex-valued semilinear wave equation with power non-linearity in one space dimension. We show that the set of non characteristic points $I_0$ is open and that the blow-up curve is of class $C^{1,μ_0}$ and the phase $θ$ is $C^{μ_0}$ on this set. In order to prove this result, we introduce a Liouville Theorem for that equation.

Blow-up rate for a semilinear wave equation with exponential nonlinearity in one space dimension

We consider in this paper blow-up solutions of the semilinear wave equation in one space dimension, with an exponential source term. Assuming that initial data are in $H^{1}_{loc}\times L^2_{loc}$ or some times in $ W^{1,\infty}\times L^{\infty}$, we derive the blow-up rate near a non-characteristic point in the smaller space, and give some bounds near other points. Our result generalize those proved by Godin under high regularity assumptions on initial data.

Blow-up profile for the complex-valued semilinear wave equation

In this paper, we consider a blow-up solution for the complex-valued semilinear wave equation with power nonlinearity in one space dimension. We first characterize all the solutions of the associated stationary problem as a two-parameter family. Then, we use a dynamical system formulation to show that the solution in self-similar variables approaches some particular stationary one in the energy norm, in the non-characteristic case. This gives the blow-up profile for the original equation in the non-characteristic case. Our analysis is not just a simple adaptation of the already handled real case. In particular, there is one more neutral-direction in our problem, which we control thanks to a modulation technique.
