Enhancing lepton flavour violation in the supersymmetric inverse seesaw beyond the dipole contribution

In minimal supersymmetric models the $Z$-penguin usually provides sub-dominant contributions to charged lepton flavour violating observables. In this study, we consider the supersymmetric inverse seesaw in which the non-minimal particle content allows for dominant contributions of the $Z$-penguin to several lepton flavour violating observables. In particular, and due to the low-scale (TeV) seesaw, the penguin contribution to, for instance, $\Br(μ\to 3e)$ and $μ-e$ conversion in nuclei, allows to render some of these observables within future sensitivity reach. Moreover, we show that in this framework, the $Z$-penguin exhibits the same non-decoupling behaviour which had previously been identified in flavour violating Higgs decays in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model.

Enhanced Higgs Mediated Lepton Flavour Violating Processes in the Supersymmetric Inverse Seesaw Model

We study the impact of the inverse seesaw mechanism on several low-energy flavour violating observables such as tau decaying to three muons in the context of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. As a consequence of the inverse seesaw, the contributions of the right-handed sneutrinos significantly enhance the Higgs-mediated penguin diagrams. We find that different flavour violating branching ratios can be enhanced by as much as two orders of magnitude. We also comment on the impact of the Higgs-mediated processes on the leptonic B-meson decays and on the Higgs flavour violating decays.

A possible connection between neutrino mass generation and the lightness of a NMSSM pseudoscalar

One of the interesting properties of the NMSSM is that it can accommodate a light pseudoscalar of order 10 GeV. However, such scenarios are challenged by several experimental constraints, especially those related to the fermionic decays of the pseudoscalar. In this Letter, we extend the NMSSM field content by two gauge singlets, with lepton numbers +1 and -1. This serves the twin purpose of generating neutrino masses via the inverse see-saw mechanism and keeping the option of a very light pseudoscalar experimentally viable by opening dominant invisible decay channels of the pseudoscalar which help it evade the existing bounds.

Successful Leptogenesis in SO(10) Unification with a Left-Right Symmetric Seesaw Mechanism

We study thermal leptogenesis in a broad class of supersymmetric SO(10) models with a left-right symmetric seesaw mechanism, taking into account flavour effects and the contribution of the next-to-lightest right-handed neutrino supermultiplet. Assuming M_D = M_u and a normal hierarchy of light neutrino masses, we show that four out of the eight right-handed neutrino mass spectra reconstructed from low-energy neutrino data can lead to successful leptogenesis with a reheating temperature in the (10^9 - 10^10) GeV range. In the remaining four solutions, leptogenesis is dominated by N_2 decays, as in the type I seesaw case. We find that some of these spectra can generate the observed baryon asymmetry for reheating temperatures above 10^10 GeV, in contrast to the type I case. Together with flavour effects, an accurate description of charged fermion masses turns out to be a crucial ingredient in the analysis.

Neutrinos and Lepton Flavour Violation in the Left-Right Twin Higgs Model

We analyse the lepton sector of the Left-Right Twin Higgs Model. This model offers an alternative way to solve the "little hierarchy" problem of the Standard Model. We show that one can achieve an effective see-saw to explain the origin of neutrino masses and that this model can accommodate the observed neutrino masses and mixings. We have also studied the lepton flavour violation process l_1 -> l_2 γand discussed how the experimental bound from these branching ratios constrains the scale of symmetry breaking of this Twin Higgs model.

Neutrinos in flat extra dimension: towards a realistic scenario

We consider the simple extension of the Standard Model in which an additional right handed neutrino propagates along a flat extra dimension, while the Standard Model fields are confined on a 3-brane. The fifth dimension is $S^1/Z_2$ orbifold compactified. In this scenario, the neutrino mass can be naturally suppressed. By studying systematically the fundamental parameter space, we show that the strong phenomenological constraints on mixing angles between active and sterile neutrinos (especially those derived from the SNO experiment data) do not conflict with the possibility of generating a realistic neutrino mass spectrum. As a second step, we explore the possibility of a successful leptogenesis through the decays of the Kaluza-Klein excitations of the right handed neutrino.

A new mechanism of neutrino mass generation in the NMSSM with broken lepton number

In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with bilinear R-parity violation, only one neutrino eigenstate acquires a mass at tree level, consequently experimental data on neutrinos cannot be accommodated at tree level. We show that in the Next-to-Minimal extension, where a gauge singlet superfield is added to primarily address the so-called $μ$-problem, it is possible to generate two massive neutrino states at tree level. Hence, the global three-flavour neutrino data can be reproduced at tree level, without appealing to loop dynamics which is vulnerable to model-dependent uncertainties. We give analytical expressions for the neutrino mass eigenvalues and present examples of realistic parameter choices.

An origin for small neutrino masses in the NMSSM

We consider the Next to Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) which provides a natural solution to the so-called mu problem by introducing a new gauge-singlet superfield S. We realize that a new mechanism of neutrino mass suppression, based on the R-parity violating bilinear terms mu_i L_i H_u mixing neutrinos and higgsinos, arises within the NMSSM, offering thus an original solution to the neutrino mass problem (connected to the solution for the mu problem). We generate realistic (Majorana) neutrino mass values without requiring any strong hierarchy amongst the fundamental parameters, in contrast with the alternative models. In particular, the ratio |mu_i/mu| can reach about 10^-1, unlike in the MSSM where it has to be much smaller than unity. We check that the obtained parameters also satisfy the collider constraints and internal consistencies of the NMSSM. The price to pay for this new cancellation-type mechanism of neutrino mass reduction is a certain fine tuning, which get significantly improved in some regions of parameter space. Besides, we discuss the feasibility of our scenario when the R-parity violating bilinear terms have a common origin with the mu term, namely when those are generated via a VEV of the S scalar component from the couplings lambda_i S L_i H_u. Finally, we make comments on some specific phenomenology of the NMSSM in the presence of R-parity violating bilinear terms.

Neutrinos in the simplest little Higgs scenario and TeV leptogenesis

The little Higgs scenario may provide an interesting framework to accommodate TeV scale leptogenesis because a TeV Majorana mass of the right-handed neutrino that we employ for the latter may find a natural place near the ultraviolet cutoff of the former. In this work we study how a light neutrino spectrum, generated radiatively, and TeV scale leptogenesis can be embedded in the simplest little Higgs framework. Alternatively, we highlight how the neutrino Yukawa textures of the latter are constrained.

A scenario for leptogenesis at the TeV scale

We propose a scenario of thermal leptogenesis at the TeV scale in the context of an extension of the Standard Model with 4 generations. We also add one right-handed Majorana neutrino for each generation to generate left handed neutrino masses via see-saw. The rôle of the fourth lepton doublet is not much different from that of a supersymmetric partner, so the leptogenesis consequences of a four generation scenario are indicators of a more generic picture. We obtain a value for the baryon asymmetry of the Universe in accordance with observations by solving the full set of coupled Boltzmann equations for this model.

A model for leptogenesis at the TeV scale

We consider the mechanism of thermal leptogenesis at the TeV scale in the context of an extension of the Standard Model with 4 generations and the inclusion of four right-handed Majorana neutrinos. We obtain a value for the baryon asymmetry of the Universe in accordance with observations by solving the full set of coupled Boltzmann equations for this model.

Leptogenesis at the TeV scale

We consider a generic model with four gauge singlets which generates successfully the right amount of baryon asymmetry through leptogenesis at the TeV scale. It also reproduces left-handed neutrino masses compatible with present data. In the present work, we perform a study of thermal production mechanisms of the lightest right-handed neutrino $N_{1}$ responsible for the lepton asymmetry taking into account all dominant processes (decays, $ΔL = 1$ and $ΔL=2$ scatterings) by solving the full Boltzmann equations.

Leptogenesis with four gauge singlets

We consider a generic type of leptogenesis model which can successfully produce the correct value of the observed baryon number to entropy ratio. The main feature of this model is that it is a simple TeV scale model, a scale accessible in near future machines, with a minimal particle content. Both supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric versions of the model are feasible. This model also gives left-handed neutrino masses compatible with all current data from direct and indirect neutrino experiments.

Impact of CP phases on neutrinoless double beta decay

We highlight in a model independent way the dependence of the effective Majorana mass parameter, relevant for neutrinoless double beta decay, on the CP phases of the PMNS matrix, using the most recent neutrino data including the cosmological WMAP measurement. We perform our analysis with three active neutrino flavours in the context of three kinds of mass spectra: quasi-degenerate, normal hierarchical and inverted hierarchical. If a neutrinoless double beta decay experiment records a positive signal, then assuming that Majorana masses of light neutrinos are responsible for it, we show how it might be possible to discriminate between the three kinds of spectra.

Impact of recent neutrino data on R-parity violation

We take both the bilinear and trilinear R-parity violating couplings in supersymmetric models as a source of neutrino masses and mixings. Using the solar and atmospheric data and the Chooz constraint we determine the allowed ranges of those couplings. We also estimate the effective mass for neutrinoless double beta decay in this scenario.

A general analysis with trilinear and bilinear R-parity violating couplings in the light of recent SNO data

We analyse an extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model including the dominant trilinear and bilinear R-parity violating contributions. We take the trilinear terms from the superpotential and the bilinear terms from the superpotential as well as the scalar potential. We compute the neutrino masses induced by those couplings and determine the allowed ranges of the R-parity violating parameters that are consistent with the latest SNO results, atmospheric data and the Chooz constraint. We also estimate the effective mass for neutrinoless double beta decay in such scenarios.

Neutrino masses and mixings in the MSSM with soft bilinear $R_p$ violation

We analyse a simple RPV extension of the MSSM, with bilinear R-parity violation in the soft terms and vevs, but not between the terms in the superpotential. The model gives two massive neutrinos, and can fit all constraints from neutrino data. We show analytically how to compute the lepton number violating Lagrangian parameters from neutrino masses and mixing angles. Conversely, we numerically vary the bilinear couplings as input parameters to determine the allowed ranges that are consistent with neutrino data. We briefly comment on the implications of our bounds for low energy LFV processes.

Can R-parity violation explain the LSND data as well?

The recent Super-Kamiokande data now admit only one type of mass hierarchy in a framework with three active and one sterile neutrinos. We show that neutrino masses and mixings generated by R-parity-violating couplings, with values within their experimental upper limits, are capable of reproducing this hierarchy, explaining all neutrino data particularly after including the LSND results.
