Relations between generalized parton distributions and transverse momentum dependent parton distributions

We investigate the relations between transverse momentum dependent parton distributions (TMDs) and generalized parton distributions (GPDs) in a light-front quark-diquark model motivated by soft wall AdS/QCD. Many relations are found to have similar structure in different models. It is found that a relation between the Sivers function and the GPD $E_q$ can be obtained in this model in terms of a lensing function. The quark orbital angular momentum is calculated and the results are compared with the results in other similar models. Implications of the results are discussed. Relations among different TMDs in the model are also presented.

$cos(2ϕ_h)$ asymmetry in $J/ψ$ production in unpolarized $ep$ collision in NRQCD

We present a recent calculation of the transverse momentum dependent gluon distributions inside unpolarised protons and show how the ratio of the linearly polarized and the unpolarized gluon distribution in the proton can be probed by looking at $Cos(2ϕ_h)$ asymmetry in $J/ψ$ production in unpolarized $ep$ collision. We use NRQCD for estimating $J/ψ$ production and include contributions both from color singlet and color octet states.

$Cos(2ϕ_h)$ asymmetry in $J/ψ$ production in unpolarized $ep$ collision

We present a calculation of the $cos (2 ϕ_h)$ asymmetry in $J/ψ$ production in electron-proton collision at the future electron-ion collider (EIC), a useful channel to probe the gluon TMDs. We calculate the asymmetry at next-to-leading order (NLO) in $α_s$ in the framework of generalized factorization. The dominating sub-process is $γ^* +g \rightarrow J/ψ+g$. The production of $J/ψ$ is calculated in the non-relativistic QCD(NRQCD) framework with the inclusion of both color singlet and color octet contributions. Numerical estimates of the $cos(2ϕ_h)$ asymmetry are given in the kinematical region to be accessed by the future EIC. The asymmetry depends on the parameterization of the gluon TMDs, as well as on the long distance matrix elements (LDMEs). We use both Gaussian-type parameterization and McLerran-Venugopalan model for the TMDs in the kinematical region of small-$x$, where the gluons play a dominant role. We obtain sizable asymmetry, which may be useful to probe the ratio of the linearly polarized and the unpolarized gluon distribution in the proton.

Gravitational form factors and mechanical properties of proton in a light-front quark-diquark model

We obtain the gravitational form factors (GFFs) and investigate their applications for the description of the mechanical properties, i.e., the distributions of pressures, shear forces inside proton, and the mechanical radius, in a light-front quark-diquark model constructed by the soft-wall AdS/QCD. The GFFs, $A(Q^2)$ and $B(Q^2)$ are found to be consistent with the lattice QCD, while the qualitative behavior of the $D$-term form factor is in agreement with the extracted data from the deeply virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) experiments at JLab, the lattice QCD, and the predictions of different phenomenological models. The pressure and shear force distributions are also consistent with the results of different models.

Recoil Momentum Effects in Quantum Processes Induced by Twisted Photons

We consider physical processes caused by the twisted photons for a wide range of energy scales, from optical (eV) to nuclear (MeV) to high-energy gamma-rays (TeV). We demonstrate that in order to satisfy angular momentum conservation, absorption of a twisted photon leads to a transverse recoil of the final particle or a system of particles leading to increased threshold energy required for the reaction to proceed. Modification of the threshold energy is predicted for (a) Photo-absorption on colds trapped ions of $^{40}$Ca, along with emerging new transverse-motion sidebands, (b) photo-disintegration of deuterium and (c) photo-production of electron-positron pairs in astrophysics environment.

Transverse spin effects in hard semi-inclusive collisions

The nucleons (protons and neutrons) are by far the most abundant form of matter in our visible Universe; they are composite particles made of quarks and gluons, the fundamental quanta of Quantum Chromo Dynamics (QCD). The usual interpretation of the nucleon dynamics in high energy interactions is often limited to a simple one-dimensional picture of a fast moving nucleon as a collection of co-linearly moving quarks and gluons (partons), interacting accordingly to perturbative QCD rules. However, massive experimental evidence shows that, in particular when transverse spin dependent observables are involved, such a simple picture is not adequate. The intrinsic transverse motion of partons has to be taken into account; this opens the way to a new, truly 3-dimensional (3D) study of the nucleon structure. A review of the main experimental data, their interpretation and understanding in terms of new transverse momentum dependent partonic distributions, and the progress in building a 3D imaging of the nucleon is presented.

Probing Nucleons and Nuclei in High Energy Collisions

This volume is a collection of contributions for the 7-week program "Probing Nucleons and Nuclei in High Energy Collisions" that was held at the Institute for Nuclear Theory in Seattle, WA, USA, from October 1 until November 16, 2018. The program was dedicated to the physics of the Electron Ion Collider (EIC), the world's first polarized electron-nucleon (ep) and electron-nucleus (eA) collider to be constructed in the USA. These proceedings are organized by chapters, corresponding to the weeks of the program: Week I, Generalized parton distributions; Week II, Transverse spin and TMDs; Week III, Longitudinal spin; Week IV, Symposium week; Weeks V & VI, eA collisions; Week VII, pA and AA collisions. We hope these proceedings will be useful to readers as a compilation of EIC-related science at the end of the second decade of the XXI century.

Sivers Asymmetry in Photoproduction of $J/ψ$ and Jet at the EIC

We calculate the Sivers asymmetry in the photoproduction of almost back-to-back $J/ψ$-jet pair in the process $ep^\uparrow \to J/ψ+\mathrm{jet}+X$, which will be possible at the future planned electron-ion collider (EIC). We use the framework of generalized parton model (GPM), and NRQCD for calculating the $J/ψ$ production rate. We include contributions from both color singlet and color octate states in the asymmetry. We obtain sizable Sivers asymmetry that can be promising to determine the gluon Sivers function. We also investigate the effect of TMD evolution on the asymmetry.

Hadron-in-jet production at partonic threshold

We consider the longitudinal momentum distribution of hadrons inside jets in proton-proton collisions. At partonic threshold large double logarithmic corrections arise which need to be resummed to all orders. We develop a factorization formalism within SCET that allows for the joint resummation of threshold and jet radius logarithms. We achieve next-to-leading logarithmic NLL$'$ accuracy by including non-global logarithms in the leading-color approximation. Overall, we find that the threshold resummation leads to a sizable enhancement of the cross section and a reduced QCD scale dependence, suggesting that the all-order resummation can be important for the reliable extraction of fragmentation functions in global analyses when jet substructure data is included.

The Polarising Fragmentation Function and the Lambda polarisation in e+ e- processes

The surprising polarisation of Lambdas and other hyperons measured in many unpolarised hadronic processes, p N --> Lambda X, has been a long standing challenge for QCD phenomenology. One possible explanation was suggested, related to non perturbative properties of the quark hadronisation process, and encoded in the so-called Polarising Fragmentation Function (PFF). Recent Belle data have shown a non zero Lambda polarisation also in unpolarised e+ e- processes, e+ e- --> Lambda X and e+ e- --> Lambda h X. We consider the single inclusive case and the role of the PFFs. Adopting a simplified kinematics it is shown how they can originate a polarisation P_Lambda different from 0 and give explicit expressions for it in terms of the PFFs. Although the Belle data do not allow yet, in our approach, an extraction of the PFFs, some clear predictions are given, suggesting crucial measurements, and estimates of P_Lambda are computed, in qualitative agreement with the Belle data.

Double parton distributions for a positronium-like bound state using light-front wave functions

We investigate the double parton distributions (DPDs) for a positronium-like bound state using light-front QED. We incorporate the higher Fock three particle component of the state, that includes a photon. We obtain the overlap representation of the DPDs in terms of the three-particle light-front wave functions (LFWFs). Our calculation explores the correlations between the momentum fractions of the particles probed and the transverse distance between them, without any assumption of factorization between them. We also investigate the behavior of the DPDs near the kinematical boundary when the sum of the momentum fractions is close to one.

Sivers and Boer-Mulders GTMDs in Light-front Holographic Quark-diquark Model

We calculate the time reversal odd (T-odd) generalized transverse momentum dependent parton distributions (GTMDs) $F^o_{1,2}$ and $H^o_{1,1}$ in a light-front quark-diquark model based on ADS/QCD. In the limit of zero momentum transfer, these reduce to the Sivers and Boer-Mulders TMDs respectively. We have incorporated both scalar and axial vector diquarks in the model and obtained an overlap representation of the GTMDs using the light-front wave functions (LFWFs). Contribution from the final state interaction is incorporated at the level of one gluon exchange as a phase factor in the LFWF. We show that the final state interaction term can be factored out in this model and this part is the same for both GTMDs. We also present the corresponding Wigner distributions.

Accessing Linearly Polarized Gluon Distribution in $J/ψ$ Production at the Electron-Ion Collider

We calculate the $cos~2 ϕ$ asymmetry in $J/ψ$ production in electron-proton collision for the kinematics of the planned electron-ion collider (EIC). This directly probes the Weiszäcker-Williams (WW) type linearly polarized gluon distribution. Assuming generalized factorization, we calculate the asymmetry at next-to-leading-order (NLO) when the energy fraction of the $J/ψ$ satisfies $z<1$ and the dominating subprocess is $γ^* +g \rightarrow c + {\bar c}+g$. We use non-relativistic QCD based color singlet model for $J/ψ$ production. We investigate the small $x$ region which will be accessible at the EIC. We present the upper bound of the asymmetry, as well as estimate it using a (i) Gaussian type parametrization for the TMDs and (ii) McLerran-Venugopalan model at small $x$. We find small but sizable asymmetry in all the three cases.

Wigner Distributions For Gluons

We investigate the gluon Wigner distributions for unpolarized, longitudinally polarized and transversely polarized target state. Instead of a nucleon, we take the target state to be a quark dressed with a gluon at one loop and investigate the gluon Wigner distributions at leading twist. Better numerical convergence is obtained compared to an earlier study, that removes the regulator dependence of the results. We present a first calculation of the Wigner distribution for the transversely polarized target and linearly polarized gluon. We study the spin densities in momentum and impact parameter space. We also investigate the quark and gluon helicity and orbital angular momentum distributions at small-$x$.

Sivers effect in Inelastic $J/ψ$ Photoproduction in $ep^\uparrow$ Collision in Color Octet Model

The prediction of single-spin asymmetry in inelastic photoproduction of $J/ψ$ in $ep^\uparrow$ collision is presented. At next-to-leading order, the dominating process is photon-gluon fusion, $γ+g\rightarrow J/ψ+g$ for the production of $J/ψ$ in $e+p^\uparrow\rightarrow J/ψ+X$, which directly probes the gluon Sivers function. Using the non-relativistic QCD based color octet model, the color octet states $\leftidx{^{3}}{S}{_1}^{(8)}$, $\leftidx{^{1}}{S}{_0}^{(8)}$ and $\leftidx{^{3}}{P}{_{J(0,1,2)}}^{(8)}$ contribution to $J/ψ$ production is calculated. Sizable asymmetry is estimated as a function of transverse momentum $P_T$ and energy fraction $z$ of $J/ψ$ in the range $0<P_T\leq 1$ GeV and $0.3<z\leq 0.9$. The unpolarized differential cross section of inelastic $J/ψ$ photoproduction is found to be in good agreement with H1 and ZEUS data.

Three Dimensional Imaging of the Nucleon

We study the Wigner distributions of quarks and gluons in light-front dressed quark model using the overlap of light front wave functions (LFWFs). We take the target to be a dressed quark, this is a composite spin $-1/2$ state of quark dressed with a gluon. This state allows us to calculate the quark and gluon Wigner distributions analytically in terms of LFWFs using Hamiltonian perturbation theory. We analyze numerically the Wigner distributions of quark and gluon and report their nature in the contour plots. We use an improved numerical technique to remove the cutoff dependence of the Fourier transformed integral over ${\bf Δ}_\perp$.
