Hybrid Inflation, Reheating and Dark Radiation in a IIB perturbative moduli stabilization scenario

We study the cosmological implications of an effective field theory model derived within a configuration of D7 brane stacks in the framework of type-IIB string theory. We consider a suitable geometric setup where the K\"ahler moduli fields are stabilized and the parametric space is constrained so that a de Sitter vacuum is ensured. In addition to the moduli fields we also take into account the usual Higgs and matter fields included in the effective field theory. In this background, we implement the standard hybrid inflation scenario with a singlet scalar field acting as the inflaton and the Higgs states serving as waterfall fields. Radiative corrections and soft supersymmetry breaking terms play an essential role in the realization of a successful inflationary scenario consistent with the present cosmological data. Small tensor-to-scalar ratio values are predicted, which can be probed in future planned experiments. Further constraints on the model's parameters are derived from bounds on dark radiation which is measured as a contribution to the effective number of neutrino species $N_{\rm eff}$. In particular, we find an excess of $\Delta N_{\rm eff}\leq{0.95}$ at $2\sigma$ confidence level with natural values of the involved couplings.

Smooth Hybrid Inflation with Low Reheat Temperature and Observable Gravity Waves in $SU(5) \times U(1)_{\chi}$ Super-GUT

We realize smooth hybrid inflation in the framework of supersymmetric $SU(5) \times U(1)_{\chi}\subset SO(10)$ model which provides a natural solution to the monopole problem appearing in the spontaneous symmetry breaking of $SU(5)$. The breaking of $U(1)_{\chi}$ symmetry leaves a residual discrete $Z_2$ symmetry, that serves as the MSSM matter parity, realizing the possibility of the lightest supersymmetric particle as a cold dark matter candidate. The $d = 5$ proton lifetime for the decay $p \rightarrow K^+ \bar{\nu}$, mediated by color-triplet Higgsinos is found to satisfy current experimental bounds if split-high scale SUSY scenario is employed. We show that with minimal K\"ahler potential, the soft supersymmetry breaking terms play a vital r\^ole in bringing the scalar spectral index $n_s$ within the Planck's latest bounds. In a minimal K\"ahler potential setup, small values of tensor-to-scalar ratio $r \lesssim 3.5 \times 10^{-7}$ are obtained, whereas the gravitino mass turns out to be in the range that favors PeV scale SUSY but is not sufficiently high to avoid the $d = 5$ proton decay. A non-minimal K\"ahler potential including higher-order corrections is required to realize successful inflation with central value of scalar spectral index $n_s = 0.9655$, large tensor modes $r \lesssim 0.056$ and a low reheat temperature $(3\times 10^{6} \lesssim T_r \lesssim 6.5 \times 10^7 )$ GeV consistent with leptogenesis and baryogenesis.

Gravitino Dark matter, Non Thermal Leptogenesis and Low reheating temperature in No-scale Higgs Inflation

We revisit Higgs inflation in the framework of a minimal extension of the Standard Model gauge symmetry by a $U(1)_{B-L}$ factor. Various aspects are taken into account with particular focus on the role of the supersymmetry breaking (SUSY) scale and the cosmological constraints associated with the gravitino. The scalar potential of the model is considered in the context of no-scale supergravity consisting of the F-part constructed from the K\"ahler function, the D-terms and soft SUSY contributions. We investigate several limiting cases and by varying the SUSY scale from a few TeV up to intermediate energies, for a spectral index around $n_s\sim 0.9655$ and reheating temperature $T_r\le 10^{9}$ GeV we find that the value of the tensor-to-scalar ratio ranges from $r\approx 10^{-3}$ to $10^{-2}$. Furthermore, it is shown that for certain regions of the parameter space the gravitino can live sufficiently long and as such is a potential candidate for a dark matter component. In general, the inflationary scenario is naturally implemented and it is consistent with non-thermal leptogenesis whereas the dominant decay channel of the inflaton yields right-handed neutrinos. Other aspects of cosmology and particle physics phenomenology are briefly discussed. Finally, we investigate the case where the inflaton is initially relaxed in a false minimum and estimate its probability to decay to the true vacuum.

Low Scale String Theory Benchmarks for Hidden Photon Dark Matter Interpretations of the XENON1T Anomaly

An excess of low-energy electronic recoil events over known backgrounds was recently observed in the XENON1T detector, where $285$ events are observed compared to an expected $232 \pm 15$ events from the background-only fit to the data in the energy range 1-7 keV. This could be due to the beta decay of an unexpected tritium component, or possibly to new physics. One plausible new physics explanation for the excess is absorption of hidden photon dark matter relics with mass around $2.8$ keV and kinetic mixing of about $10^{-15}$, which can also explain cooling excesses in horizontal-branch (HB) stars. Such small gauge boson masses and couplings can naturally arise from type-IIB low scale string theory. We provide a fit of the XENON1T excess in terms of a minimal low scale type-IIB string theory parameter space and present some benchmark points which provide a good fit to the data. It is also demonstrated how the required transformation properties of the massless spectrum are obtained in intersecting D-brane models.

Inflation from a No-scale supersymmetric $SU(4)_{c}\times{SU(2)_{L}\times{SU(2)_{R}}}$ model

We study inflation in a supersymmetric Pati-Salam model driven by a potential generated in the context of no-scale supergravity. The Pati-Salam gauge group $SU(4)_{c}\times{SU(2)_{L}\times{SU(2)_{R}}}$ , is supplemented with a $Z_{2} $ symmetry. Spontaneous breaking via the $SU(4)$ adjoint leads to the left-right symmetric group. Then the $SU(2)_{R}$ breaks at an intermediate scale and the inflaton is a combination of the neutral components of the $SU(2)_{R}$ doublets. We discuss various limits of the parameter space and we show that consistent solutions with the cosmological data for the a spectral index $n_{s}$ and the tensor-to-scalar ratio r are found for a wide range of the parameter space of the model. Regarding the latter, which is a canonical measure of primordial gravity waves, we find that $r\sim{10^{-3}-10^{-2}}$. An alternative possibility where the adjoint scalar field $S$ has the role of the inflaton is also discussed.

Vectorlike Particles, $Z'$ and Yukawa Unification in F-theory inspired $E_6$

We explore the low energy implications of an F-theory inspired $E_6$ model whose breaking yields, in addition to the MSSM gauge symmetry, a $Z'$ gauge boson associated with a $U(1)$ symmetry broken at the TeV scale. The zero mode spectrum of the effective low energy theory is derived from the decomposition of the $27$ and $\overline{27}$ representations of $E_6$ and we parametrise their multiplicities in terms of a minimum number of flux parameters. We perform a two-loop renormalisation group analysis of the gauge and Yukawa couplings of the effective theory model and estimate lower bounds on the new vectorlike particles predicted in the model. We compute the third generation Yukawa couplings in an F-theory context assuming an $E_8$ point of enhancement and express our results in terms of the local flux densities associated with the gauge symmetry breaking. We find that their values are compatible with the ones computed by the renormalisation group equations, and we identify points in the parameter space of the flux densities where the $t-b-\tau$ Yukawa couplings unify.

R-Parity violation in F-Theory

We discuss R-parity violation (RPV) in semi-local and local F-theory constructions. We first present a detailed analysis of all possible combinations of RPV operators arising from semi-local F-theory spectral cover constructions, assuming an $SU(5)$ GUT. We provide a classification of all possible allowed combinations of RPV operators originating from operators of the form $10\cdot \bar 5\cdot \bar 5$, including the effect of $U(1)$ fluxes with global restrictions. We then relax the global constraints and perform explicit computations of the bottom/tau and RPV Yukawa couplings, at an $SO(12)$ local point of enhancement in the presence of general fluxes subject only to local flux restrictions. We compare our results to the experimental limits on each allowed RPV operator, and show that operators such as $LLe^c$, $LQd^c$ and $u^cd^cd^c$ may be present separately within current bounds, possibly on the edge of observability, suggesting lepton number violation or neutron-antineutron oscillations could constrain F-theory models.

750 GeV Diphoton excess from $E_6$ in F-theory GUTs

We interpret the 750-760 GeV diphoton resonance as one or more of the spinless components of a singlet superfield arising from the three 27-dimensional representations of $E_6$ in F-theory, which also contain three copies of colour-triplet charge $\mp 1/3$ vector-like fermions $D_i,\bar{D}_i$ and inert Higgs doublets to which the singlets may couple. For definiteness we consider (without change) a model that was proposed some time ago which contains such states, as well as bulk exotics, leading to gauge coupling unification. The smoking gun prediction of the model is the existence of other similar spinless resonances, possibly close in mass to 750-760 GeV, decaying into diphotons, as well as the three families of vector-like fermions $D_i,\bar{D}_i$.

MSSM from F-theory SU(5) with Klein Monodromy

We revisit a class of $SU(5)$ SUSY GUT models which arise in the context of the spectral cover with Klein Group monodromy $V_4=Z_2\times Z_2$. We show that $Z_2$ matter parities can be realised via new geometric symmetries respected by the spectral cover. We discuss a particular example of this kind, where the low energy effective theory below the GUT scale is just the MSSM with no exotics and standard matter parity, extended by the seesaw mechanism with two right-handed neutrinos.

Phenomenological implications of a minimal F-theory GUT with discrete symmetry

We discuss the origin of both non-Abelian discrete family symmetry and Abelian continuous family symmetry, as well as matter parity, from F-theory SUSY GUTs. We propose a minimal model based on the smallest GUT group $SU(5)$, together with the non-Abelian family symmetry $D_4$ plus an Abelian family symmetry, where fluxes are responsible for doublet-triplet splitting, leading to a realistic low energy spectrum with phenomenologically acceptable quark and lepton masses and mixing. We show how a $Z_2$ matter parity emerging from F-theory can suppress proton decay while allowing neutron-antineutron oscillations, providing a distinctive signature of the set-up.

Discrete Family Symmetry from F-Theory GUTs

We consider realistic F-theory GUT models based on discrete family symmetries $A_4$ and $S_3$, combined with $SU(5)$ GUT, comparing our results to existing field theory models based on these groups. We provide an explicit calculation to support the emergence of the family symmetry from the discrete monodromies arising in F-theory. We work within the spectral cover picture where in the present context the discrete symmetries are associated to monodromies among the roots of a five degree polynomial and hence constitute a subgroup of the $S_5$ permutation symmetry. We focus on the cases of $A_4$ and $S_3$ subgroups, motivated by successful phenomenological models interpreting the fermion mass hierarchy and in particular the neutrino data. More precisely, we study the implications on the effective field theories by analysing the relevant discriminants and the topological properties of the polynomial coefficients, while we propose a discrete version of the doublet-triplet splitting mechanism.
