A divisor function of Wigert and higher degree forms

Let $k\in\mathbb{N}$. Wigert's divisor function $d^{\left(\frac{1}{k}\right)}(j)$ counts the number of representations of $j$ of the form $m^k+mn$ with $m\geq1 , n\geq0$. Let $\mathcal{F}_k(s)$ denote the Dirichlet series of $d^{\left(\frac{1}{k}\right)}(j)$. While $\mathcal{F}_2(s)$ is essentially a well-known special case of the Euler-Zagier double zeta function, and hence well-studied, very little is known about $\mathcal{F}_k(s)$ for $k>2$. We offer three new representations for $\mathcal{F}_k(s)$ for $k\geq2$, one of which is an analogue of the Chowla-Selberg formula as well as of a formula of Atkinson. The meromorphicity of $\mathcal{F}_k(s)$ is also discussed. The special value $\mathcal{F}_3\left(\frac{3}{2}\right)$ is expressed in terms of an infinite series of Bessel functions and a generalized divisor function.

Restricted Overpartitions and concave compositions: their modularity and asymptotics

In this paper we study restricted overpartitions and concave compositions. In several cases the resulting generating functions involve simultaneously modular forms, mock theta functions, mock Maass theta functions, and false theta functions, illustrating the appearance of mixed modular structures in restricted partition problems. Moreover, we obtain their asymptotic main terms. We also study related rank statistics.

Non-Rascoe partitions and a rank parity function associated to the Rogers-Ramanujan partitions

We study the generating function of the excess number of Rogers-Ramanujan partitions with odd rank over those with even rank, and, using combinatorial and analytical techniques, show that this generating function is closely connected with an interesting class of restricted partitions, namely, partitions into distinct parts where the number of parts is not a part. We derive arithmetic properties of the number of such partitions and conjecture an interesting mod $4$ congruence. Generalizations of most of these results in a parameter $\ell$ are also obtained.

Some identities of the sums-of-tails type

A new sums-of-tails identity involving two parameters $b$ and $d$ is obtained and is used to derive more results of similar type. One of Ramanujan's sums-of-tails identities from the Lost Notebook is shown to be a special case of our result. In the course of deriving Ramanujan's identity, we obtain a new result of combinatorial significance. Two new representations for an infinite series associated to a mock theta function are derived. Also, we give an application of an identity of Andrews and Onofri.

On a function of Ramanujan twisted by a logarithm

A two-term functional equation for an infinite series involving the digamma function and a logarithmic factor is derived. A modular relation on page 220 of Ramanujan's Lost Notebook as well as a corresponding recent result for the derivative of Deninger's function are two main ingredients in its derivation. An interesting integral $\mathscr{H}(x)$, which is of independent interest, plays a prominent role in our functional equation. Several alternative representations for $\mathscr{H}(x)$ are obtained.

The Rogers-Ramanujan dissection of a theta function

Page 27 of Ramanujan's Lost Notebook contains a beautiful identity which not only gives, as a special case, a famous modular relation between the Rogers-Ramanujan functions $G(q)$ and $H(q)$ but also a relation between two fifth order mock theta functions and $G(q)$ and $H(q)$. We generalize Ramanujan's relation with the help of a parameter $s$ to get an infinite family of such identities. Our result shows that a theta function can always be ``dissected'' as a finite sum of products of generalized Rogers-Ramanujan functions. Several well-known results are shown to be consequences of our theorem, for example, a generalization of the Jacobi triple product identity and Andrews' relation between two of his generalized third order mock theta functions. We give enough evidence, through asymptotic analysis as well as by other means, to show that the identities we get from our main result for $s>2$ transcend the modular world and hence look difficult to be written in the form of a modular relation. Using asymptotic analysis, we also offer a clinching evidence that explains how Ramanujan may have arrived at his generalized modular relation.

Voronoi summation formulas, oscillations of Riesz sums, and Ramanujan-Guinand and Cohen type identities

We derive Vorono\"{\dotlessi} summation formulas for the Liouville function $\lambda(n)$, the M\"{o}bius function $\mu(n)$, and for $d^{2}(n)$, where $d(n)$ is the divisor function. The formula for $\lambda(n)$ requires explicit evaluation of certain infinite series for which the use of the Vinogradov-Korobov zero-free region of the Riemann zeta function is indispensable. Several results of independent interest are obtained as special cases of these formulas. For example, a special case of the one for $\mu(n)$ is a famous result of Ramanujan, Hardy, and Littlewood. Cohen type and Ramanujan-Guinand type identities are established for $\lambda(n)$ and $\sigma_a(n)\sigma_b(n)$, where $\sigma_s(n)$ is the generalized divisor function. As expected, infinite series over the non-trivial zeros of $\zeta(s)$ now form an essential part of all of these formulas. A series involving $\sigma_a(n)\sigma_b(n)$ and product of modified Bessel functions occurring in one of our identities has appeared in a recent work of Dorigoni and Treilis in string theory. Lastly, we obtain results on oscillations of Riesz sums associated to $\lambda(n), \mu(n)$ and of the error term of Riesz sum of $d^2(n)$ under the assumption of the Riemann Hypothesis, simplicity of the zeros of $\zeta(s)$, the Linear Independence conjecture, and a weaker form of the Gonek-Hejhal conjecture.

Mordell-Tornheim zeta functions and functional equations for Herglotz-Zagier type functions

The Mordell-Tornheim zeta function and the Herglotz-Zagier function $F(x)$ are two important functions in Mathematics. By generalizing a special case of the former, namely $\Theta(z, x)$, we show that the theories of these functions are inextricably woven. We obtain a three-term functional equation for $\Theta(z, x)$ as well as decompose it in terms of the Herglotz-Hurwitz function $\Phi(z, x)$. This decomposition can be conceived as a two-term functional equation for $\Phi(z, x)$. Through this result, we are not only able to get Zagier's identity relating $F(x)$ with $F(1/x)$ but also two-term functional equation for Ishibashi's generalization of $F(x)$, namely, $\Phi_k(x)$ which has been sought after for over twenty years. We further generalize $\Theta(z, x)$ by incorporating two Gauss sums, each associated to a Dirichlet character, and decompose it in terms of an interesting integral which involves the Fekete polynomial as well as the character polylogarithm. This result gives infinite families of functional equations of Herglotz-type integrals out of which only two, due to Kumar and Choie, were known so far. The first one among the two involves the integral $J(x)$ who special values have received a lot of attention, more recently, in the work of Muzzaffar and Williams, and in that of Radchenko and Zagier. Analytic continuation of our generalization of $\Theta(z, x)$ is also accomplished which allows us to obtain transformations between certain double series and Herglotz-type integrals or their explicit evaluations.

Recent developments pertaining to Ramanujan's formula for odd zeta values

In this expository article, we discuss the contributions made by several mathematicians with regard to a famous formula of Ramanujan for odd zeta values. The goal is to complement the excellent survey by Berndt and Straub \cite{berndtstraubzeta} with some of the recent developments that have taken place in the area in the last decade or so.

Modular relations involving generalized digamma functions

Generalized digamma functions $\psi_k(x)$, studied by Ramanujan, Deninger, Dilcher, Kanemitsu, Ishibashi etc., appear as the Laurent series coefficients of the zeta function associated to an indefinite quadratic form. In this paper, a modular relation of the form $F_k(\alpha)=F_k(1/\alpha)$ containing infinite series of $\psi_k(x)$, or, equivalently, between the generalized Stieltjes constants $\gamma_k(x)$, is obtained for any $k\in\mathbb{N}$. When $k=0$, it reduces to a famous transformation given on page $220$ of Ramanujan's Lost Notebook. For $k=1$, an integral containing Riemann's $\Xi$-function, and corresponding to the aforementioned modular relation, is also obtained along with its asymptotic expansions as $\alpha\to0$ and $\alpha\to\infty$. Carlitz-type and Guinand-type finite modular relations involving $\psi_j^{(m)}(x), 0\leq j\leq k, m\in\mathbb{N}\cup\{0\},$ are also derived, thereby extending previous results on the digamma function $\psi(x)$. The extension of Guinand's result for $\psi_j^{(m)}(x), m\geq2,$ involves an interesting combinatorial sum $h(r)$ over integer partitions of $2r$ into exactly $r$ parts. This sum plays a crucial role in an inversion formula needed for this extension. This formula has connection with the inversion formula for the inverse of a triangular Toeplitz matrix. The modular relation for $\psi_j'(x)$ is subtle and requires delicate analysis.

Explicit transformations for generalized Lambert series associated with the divisor function $\sigma_{a}^{(N)}(n)$ and their applications

Let $\sigma_a^{(N)}(n)=\sum_{d^{N}|n}d^a$. An explicit transformation is obtained for the generalized Lambert series $\sum_{n=1}^{\infty}\sigma_{a}^{(N)}(n)e^{-ny}$ for Re$(a)>-1$ using the recently established Vorono\"i summation formula for $\sigma_a^{(N)}(n)$, and is extended to a wider region by analytic continuation. For $N=1$, this Lambert series plays an important role in string theory scattering amplitudes as can be seen in the recent work of Dorigoni and Kleinschmidt. These transformations exhibit several identities - a new generalization of Ramanujan's formula for $\zeta(2m+1)$, an identity associated with extended higher Herglotz functions, generalized Dedekind eta-transformation, Wigert's transformation etc., all of which are derived in this paper, thus leading to their uniform proofs. A special case of one of these explicit transformations naturally leads us to consider generalized power partitions with ``$n^{2N-1}$ copies of $n^{N}$''. Asymptotic expansion of their generating function as $q\to1^{-}$ is also derived which generalizes Wright's result on the plane partition generating function. In order to obtain these transformations, several new intermediate results are required, for example, a new reduction formula for Meijer $G$-function and an almost closed-form evaluation of $\left.\frac{\partial E_{2N, \beta}(z^{2N})}{\partial\beta}\right|_{\beta=1}$, where $E_{\alpha, \beta}(z)$ is a two-variable Mittag-Leffler function.

Voronoi summation formula for the generalized divisor function $\sigma_{z}^{(k)}(n)$

For a fixed $z\in\mathbb{C}$ and a fixed $k\in\mathbb{N}$, let $\sigma_{z}^{(k)}(n)$ denote the sum of $z$-th powers of those divisors $d$ of $n$ whose $k$-th powers also divide $n$. This arithmetic function is a simultaneous generalization of the well-known divisor function $\sigma_z(n)$ as well as the divisor function $d^{(k)}(n)$ first studied by Wigert. The Dirichlet series of $\sigma_{z}^{(k)}(n)$ does not fall under the purview of Chandrasekharan and Narasimhan's fundamental work on Hecke's functional equation with multiple gamma factors. Nevertheless, as we show here, an explicit and elegant Vorono\"{\dotlessi} summation formula exists for this function. As its corollaries, some transformations of Wigert are generalized. The kernel $H_{z}^{(k)}(x)$ of the associated integral transform is a new generalization of the Bessel kernel. Several properties of this kernel such as its differential equation, asymptotic behavior and its special values are derived. A crucial relation between $H_{z}^{(k)}(x)$ and an associated integral $K_{z}^{(k)}(x)$ is obtained, the proof of which is deep, and employs the theory of linear differential equations and the properties of Stirling numbers of the second kind and elementary symmetric polynomials.

Modified Bessel Functions in Analytic Number Theory

The modified Bessel functions $K_{\nu}(z)$, or, for brevity, K-Bessel functions, arise at key places in analytic number theory. In particular, they appear in beautiful arithmetic identities. A survey of these arithmetical identities and their appearances in number theory is provided.

A modular relation involving a generalized digamma function and asymptotics of some integrals containing $\Xi(t)$

A modular relation of the form $F(\alpha, w)=F(\beta, iw)$, where $i=\sqrt{-1}$ and $\alpha\beta=1$, is obtained. It involves the generalized digamma function $\psi_w(a)$ which was recently studied by the authors in their work on developing the theory of the generalized Hurwitz zeta function $\zeta_w(s, a)$. The limiting case $w\to0$ of this modular relation is a famous result of Ramanujan on page $220$ of the Lost Notebook. We also obtain asymptotic estimate of a general integral involving the Riemann function $\Xi(t)$ as $\alpha\to\infty$. Not only does it give the asymptotic estimate of the integral occurring in our modular relation as a corollary but also some known results.

Applications of Lipschitz summation formula and a generalization of Raabe's cosine transform

General summation formulas have been proved to be very useful in analysis, number theory and other branches of mathematics. The Lipschitz summation formula is one of them. In this paper, we give its application by providing a new transformation formula which generalizes that of Ramanujan. Ramanujan's result, in turn, is a generalization of the modular transformation of Eisenstein series $E_k(z)$ on SL$_2(\mathbb{Z})$, where $z\to-1/z, z\in\mathbb{H}$. The proof of our result involves delicate analysis containing Cauchy Principal Value integrals. A simpler proof of a recent result of ours with Kesarwani giving a non-modular transformation for $\sum_{n=1}^{\infty}\sigma_{2m}(n)e^{-ny}$ is also derived using the Lipschitz summation formula. In the pursuit of obtaining this transformation, we naturally encounter a new generalization of Raabe's cosine transform whose several properties are also demonstrated. As a corollary of this result, we get a generalization of Wright's asymptotic estimate for the generating function of the number of plane partitions of a positive integer $n$.

A finite analogue of a $q$-series identity of Bhoria, Eyyunni and Maji and its applications

Bhoria, Eyyunni and Maji recently obtained a four-parameter $q$-series identity which gives as special cases not only all five entries of Ramanujan on pages 354 and 355 of his second notebook but also allows them to obtain an analytical proof of a result of Bressoud and Subbarao. Here, we obtain a finite analogue of their identity which naturally gives finite analogues of Ramanujan's results. Using one of these finite analogues, we deduce an identity for a finite sum involving a ${}_2\phi_1$. This identity is then applied to obtain a generalization of the generating function version of Andrews' famous identity for the smallest parts function $\textup{spt}(n)$. The $q$-series which generalizes $\sum_{n=1}^{\infty}\textup{spt}(n)q^n$ is completely different from $S(z, q)$ considered by Andrews, Garvan and Liang. Further applications of our identity are given. Lastly we generalize a result of Andrews, Chan and Kim which involves the first odd moments of rank and crank.

A modular relation involving non-trivial zeros of the Dedekind zeta function, and the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis

We give a number field analogue of a result of Ramanujan, Hardy and Littlewood, thereby obtaining a modular relation involving the non-trivial zeros of the Dedekind zeta function. We also provide a Riesz-type criterion for the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis for $\zeta_K(s)$. New elegant transformations are obtained when $K$ is a quadratic extension, one of which involves the modified Bessel function of the second kind.

Lambert series of logarithm, the derivative of Deninger's function $R(z)$ and a mean value theorem for $\zeta\left(\frac{1}{2}-it\right)\zeta'\left(\frac{1}{2}+it\right)$

An explicit transformation for the series $\sum\limits_{n=1}^{\infty}\displaystyle\frac{\log(n)}{e^{ny}-1},$ Re$(y)>0$, which takes $y$ to $1/y$, is obtained for the first time. This series transforms into a series containing $\psi_1(z)$, the derivative of Deninger's function $R(z)$. In the course of obtaining the transformation, new important properties of $\psi_1(z)$ are derived, as is a new representation for the second derivative of the two-variable Mittag-Leffler function $E_{2, b}(z)$ evaluated at $b=1$. Our transformation readily gives the complete asymptotic expansion of $\sum\limits_{n=1}^{\infty}\displaystyle\frac{\log(n)}{e^{ny}-1}$ as $y\to0$. An application of the latter is that it gives the asymptotic expansion of $ \displaystyle\int_{0}^{\infty}\zeta\left(\frac{1}{2}-it\right)\zeta'\left(\frac{1}{2}+it\right)e^{-\delta t}\, dt$ as $\delta\to0$.
