The transverse momentum spectrum of weak gauge bosons at N$^3$LL+NNLO

We present accurate QCD predictions for the transverse momentum pT spectrum of electroweak gauge bosons at the LHC for 13 TeV collisions, based on a consistent combination of a NNLO calculation at large pT and N3LL resummation in the small pT limit. The inclusion of higher order corrections leads to substantial changes in the shape of the differential distributions, and the residual perturbative uncertainties are reduced to the few percent level across the whole transverse momentum spectrum. We examine the ratio of pT distributions in charged- and neutral-current Drell-Yan production, and study different prescriptions for the estimate of perturbative uncertainties that rely on different degrees of correlation between these processes. We observe an excellent stability of the ratios with respect to the perturbative order, indicating a strong correlation between the corresponding QCD corrections.

Triple Differential Dijet Cross Section at the LHC

The measurement of the triple-differential dijet production cross section as a function of the average transverse momentum $p_{T,\textrm{avg}}$, half the rapidity separation $y^{*}$, and the boost $y_{b}$ of the two leading jets in the event enables a kinematical scan of the underlying parton momentum distributions. We compute for the first time the second-order perturbative QCD corrections to this triple-differential dijet cross section, at leading color in all partonic channels, thereby enabling precision studies with LHC dijet data. A detailed comparison with experimental CMS 8 TeV data is performed, demonstrating how the shape of this differential cross section probes the parton densities in different kinematical ranges.

Jet cross sections at the LHC and the quest for higher precision

We perform a phenomenological study of $Z$ plus jet, Higgs plus jet and di-jet production at the Large Hadron Collider. We investigate in particular the dependence of the leading jet cross section on the jet radius as a function of the jet transverse momentum. Theoretical predictions are obtained using perturbative QCD calculations at the next-to and next-to-next-to-leading order, using a range of renormalization and factorization scales. The fixed order predictions are compared to results obtained from matching next-to-leading order calculations to parton showers. A study of the scale dependence as a function of the jet radius is used to provide a better estimate of the scale uncertainty for small jet sizes. The non-perturbative corrections as a function of jet radius are estimated from different generators.

Timelike Dipole-Antenna Showers with Massive Fermions

We present a complete formalism for final-state (timelike) dipole-antenna showers including fermion masses, but neglecting polarization and finite-width effects. We make several comparisons of tree-level expansions of this shower algorithm to fixed-order matrix elements for hadronic Z decays, up to and including Z to 6 partons, to which the algorithm can be consistently matched over all of phase space. We also compare to analytical resummations at the NLL level. The shower algorithm has been implemented in the publicly available VINCIA plugin to the PYTHIA 8 event generator, which enables us to compare to experimental data at the fully hadronized level. We also include comparisons to selected observables in b-tagged Z decays.

Infrared sensitivity of single jet inclusive production at hadron colliders

Jet production at hadron colliders is a benchmark process to probe the dynamics of the strong interaction and the structure of the colliding hadrons. One of the most basic jet production observables is the single jet inclusive cross section, which is obtained by summing all jets that are observed in an event. Our recent computation of next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD contributions to single jet inclusive observables uncovered large corrections in certain kinematical regions, which also resulted in a sizeable ambiguity on the appropriate choice of renormalization and factorization scales. We now perform a detailed investigation of the infrared sensitivity of the different ingredients to the single jet inclusive cross section. We show that the contribution from the second jet, ordered in transverse momentum $p_{T}$, in the event is particularly sensitive to higher order effects due to implicit restrictions on its kinematics. By investigating the second-jet transverse momentum distribution, we identify large-scale cancellations between different kinematical event configurations, which are aggravated by certain types of scale choice. Taking perturbative convergence and stability as selection criteria enables us to single out the total partonic transverse energy $\hat{H}_{T}$ and twice the individual jet transverse momentum $2\,p_{T}$ (with which $\hat{H}_{T}$ coincides in Born kinematics) as the most appropriate scales in the perturbative description of single jet inclusive production.

NNLO QCD Corrections to W+jet Production in NNLOJET

We give an overview of our calculation of the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD corrections to W + jet production in hadronic collisions. Phenomenological results for multiple differential distributions are compared to CMS data for 8 TeV proton-proton collisions. We further discuss the application of the calculation to the transverse momentum spectrum of inclusive W boson production, again accompanied by a comparison to 8 TeV CMS data. In both cases, the inclusion of NNLO QCD effects give an improved agreement between theory and data with considerably reduced scale uncertainties with respect to the next-to-leading order (NLO) results.

Jet cross sections at the LHC with NNLOJET

We review the status of NNLO calculations for jet cross sections at the LHC. In particular, we describe how perturbative stability and convergence can be used as criteria to select the most appropriate scales in the theoretical description of di-jet and single jet inclusive production.

Precise predictions for dijet production at the LHC

We present the calculation of dijet production, doubly-differential in dijet mass, $m_{jj}$ and rapidity difference, $|y^{*}|$, at leading colour in all partonic channels at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in perturbative QCD. We consider the long-standing problems associated with scale choice for dijet production at next-to-leading order (NLO) and investigate the impact of including the NNLO contribution. We find that the NNLO theory provides reliable predictions, even when using scale choices which display pathological behaviour at NLO. We choose the dijet invariant mass as the theoretical scale on the grounds of perturbative convergence and residual scale variation and compare the predictions to the ATLAS 7 TeV 4.5 fb$^{-1}$ data.

Differential single jet inclusive production at Next-to-Next-to-Leading Order in QCD

In this talk we present the recent calculation in all partonic channels of the fully differential single jet inclusive cross section at Next-to-Next-to-Leading Order in QCD. We discuss the size and shape of the perturbative corrections as a function of the functional form of the renormalisation and factorisation scales and compare the predictions at NLO and NNLO to the available ATLAS 7 TeV data. We find significant effects at low-$p_T$ due to changes in the functional form of the scale choice whereas at high-$p_T$ the two most common scale choices in the literature give identical results and the perturbative corrections lead to a substantial reduction in the scale dependence of the theoretical prediction at NNLO.

Single jet inclusive production for the individual jet $p_{T}$ scale choice at the LHC

We study the single jet inclusive cross section up to next-to-next-to leading order in perturbative QCD, implemented in the parton-level event generator NNLOJET . Our results are fully differential in the jet transverse momentum and rapidity and we apply fiducial cuts for comparison with the available ATLAS 7 TeV 4.5 fb$^{-1}$ data for jet radius $R=0.4$. For the theoretical calculation we employ the antenna subtraction method to reliably cancel all infrared divergences present at intermediate stages of the calculation. We present all results using the individual jet transverse momentum $μ_{R}=μ_{F}\sim p_{T}$ as the renormalization and factorization scale for each jet's contribution to the single jet inclusive cross section. Finally, we consider the differences between our predictions using this scale choice to those for the leading jet transverse momentum scale choice, $μ_{R}=μ_{F}\sim p_{T_{1}}$, used in [14], with reference to the ATLAS data.

Top quark pair production at NNLO in the quark-antiquark channel

We present the derivation of the NNLO two-parton final state contributions to top pair production in the quark-antiquark channel proportionnal to the leading colour factor $N_c^2$. Together with the three and four-parton NNLO contributions presented in a previous publication, this enables us to complete the phenomenologically most important NNLO corrections to top pair hadro-production in this channel. We derive this two-parton contribution using the massive extension of the NNLO antenna subtraction formalism and implement those corrections in a parton-level event generator providing full kinematical information on all final state particles. In addition, we also derive the heavy quark contributions proportional to $N_h$. Combining the new leading-colour and heavy quark contributions together with the light quark contributions derived previously, we present NNLO differential distributions for LHC and Tevatron. We also compute the differential top quark forward-backward asymmetry at Tevatron and find that our results are in good agreement with the measurements by the D0 collaboration.

Light fermionic NNLO QCD corrections to top-antitop production in the quark-antiquark channel

We present the NNLO corrections to top pair production in the quark-antiquark channel proportional to the number of light quark flavors $N_l$. While the double real corrections were derived previously, here we compute the real-virtual and virtual-virtual contributions in this partonic channel. Using the antenna subtraction formalism, we show that the subtraction terms correctly approximate the real-virtual contributions in all their infrared limits. Combined with the integrated forms of the double real and real-virtual subtraction terms, we show analytically that the explicit infrared poles cancel at the real-virtual and virtual-virtual levels respectively, thereby demonstrating the validity of the massive extension of the NNLO antenna formalism. These NNLO corrections are implemented in a Monte Carlo parton level generator providing full kinematical information on an event-by event basis. With this program, NNLO differential distributions in the form of binned histograms are obtained and presented here.

NNLO QCD subtraction for top-antitop production in the $q\bar{q}$ channel

We present the computation of the double real and real-virtual contributions to top-antitop pair production in the quark-antiquark channel at leading colour. The $q \bar q \to t \bar{t} g$ amplitudes contributing to the real-virtual part are computed with OpenLoops, and their numerical stability in the soft and collinear regions is found to be sufficiently high to perform a realistic NNLO calculation in double precision. The subtraction terms required at real-real and real-virtual levels are constructed within the antenna subtraction formalism extended to deal with the presence of coloured massive final state particles. We show that those subtraction terms approximate the real-real and real-virtual matrix elements in all their singular limits.

Second order QCD corrections to gluonic jet production at hadron colliders

We report on the calculation of the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD corrections to the production of two gluonic jets at hadron colliders. In previous work, we discussed gluonic dijet production in the gluon-gluon channel. Here, for the first time, we update our numerical results to include the leading colour contribution to the production of two gluonic jets via quark-antiquark scattering.

NNLO QCD corrections to dijet production at hadron colliders

In this talk we present the calculation of next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD corrections to dijet production and related observables at hadron colliders in the purely gluonic channel. Results for this channel are obtained keeping all orders of $N_C$ in the colour expansion. We show that the NNLO correction significantly reduces the scale uncertainty compared to next-to-leading order (NLO). We present the NNLO double-differential single jet inclusive cross section where jets are reconstructed using the anti-$k_T$ jet algorithm and show the dependence on the jet resolution parameter $R$.

NNLO QCD corrections to jet production at hadron colliders from gluon scattering

We present the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD corrections to dijet production in the purely gluonic channel retaining the full dependence on the number of colours. The sub-leading colour contribution in this channel first appears at NNLO and, as expected, increases the NNLO correction by around 10% and exhibits a pT dependence, rising from 8% at low pT to 15% at high pT . The present calculation demonstrates the utility of the antenna subtraction method for computing the full colour NNLO corrections to dijet production at the Large Hadron Collider.

Double Virtual corrections for gluon scattering at NNLO

We use the antenna subtraction method to isolate the double virtual infrared singularities present in gluonic scattering amplitudes at next-to-next-to-leading order. In previous papers, we derived the subtraction terms that rendered (a) the double real radiation tree-level process finite in the single and double unresolved regions of phase space and (b) the mixed single real radiation one-loop process both finite and well behaved in the unresolved regions of phase space. Here, we show how to construct the double virtual subtraction term using antenna functions with both initial- and final-state partons which remove the explicit infrared poles present in the two-loop amplitude. As an explicit example, we write down the subtraction term for the four-gluon two-loop process. The infrared poles are explicitly and locally cancelled in all regions of phase space leaving a finite remainder that can be safely evaluated numerically in four-dimensions.
