Free-free transitions in a bichromatic field of frequencies $ω$ and $2ω$ at moderate field intensities

Free-free transitions in laser-assisted electron-hydrogen scattering in a bichromatic field of frequencies $ω$ and $2ω$ are studied at moderate intensities for fast projectiles. A hybrid approach is used, in which the field-projectile interaction is described exactly but the field-target one is described by second order perturbation theory; the projectile-target interaction is treated in the first Born approximation. The adopted description of the target enables a consistent study of the leading process to each of the considered sidebands. Numerical results are presented for the angular distributions in a geometry and at frequencies for which the target dressing is important. The influence of the relative phase between the fields is investigated, too.

Polarization Effects in Two-Photon Free-Free Transitions in Laser-Assisted Electron-Hydrogen Collisions

Two-photon free-free transitions in elastic laser-assisted electron-hydrogen collisions are studied in the domain of high scattering energies and low or moderate field intensities, in the third order of perturbation theory, taking into account all the involved Feynman diagrams. Based on the analytical expressions of the transition amplitudes, the differential cross sections for two-photon absorption/emission are computed at impact energy $E_i=100$ eV. The effect of field polarizations on the angular distribution and on the frequency dependence of the differential cross section is analyzed.

Elliptic Dichroism in Angular Distributions in Free-Free Transitions in Hydrogen

We discuss here the effect of the photon helicity in laser induced and inverse bremstrahlung for {\it high energy scattering} of electrons by hydrogen atoms. We demonstrate that it is possible to find EDAD for high scattering energies of the electrons if the{\it \ dressing of the atomic target} by the laser field is taken into account. We consider higher optical frequencies of the laser field and we restrict ourselves to the use of moderate field intensities.

Electron-atom scattering in a circularly polarized laser field

We consider electron-atom scattering in a circularly polarized laser field at sufficiently high electron energies, permitting to describe the scattering process by the first order Born approximation. Assuming the radiation field has sufficiently moderate intensities, the laser-dressing of the hydrogen target atom in its ground state will be treated in second order perturbation theory. Within this approximation scheme, it is shown that the nonlinear differential cross sections of free-free transitions do neither depend on the {\it dynamical phase} $ϕ$ of the radiative process nor on the {\it helicity} of the circularly polarized laser light. Relations to the corresponding results for linear laser polarization are established.

Circular dichroism in free-free transitions of high energy electron-atom scattering

We consider high energy electron scattering by hydrogen atoms in the presence of a laser field of moderate power and higher frequencies. If the field is a superposition of a linearly and a circularly polarized laser beam in a particular configuration, then we can show that circular dichroism in two photon transitions can be observed not only for the differential but also for the integrated cross sections, provided the laser-dressing of the atomic target is treated in second order perturbation theory and the coupling between hydrogenic bound and continuum states is involved.
