Dynamical Evolution of Quantum Correlations and Decoherence in Coupled Oscillators Interacting with a Thermal Reservoir

We investigate the dynamical evolution of quantum discord, entanglement and purity in an open quantum system of two coupled asymmetric harmonic oscillators interacting with a thermal environment. Using the Kossakowski-Lindblad master equation we analyze the time evolution starting with a squeezed vacuum state. In contrast to our previous study on entanglement evolution in asymmetric oscillators, the present work introduces XY-type position-position coupling together with a systematic joint analysis of quantum discord and purity alongside entanglement. We examine the combined effects of the squeezing parameter, asymmetry parameter, coupling constant, dissipation rate and temperature. We find that quantum discord and entanglement exhibit, in general, a non-monotonic decrease over time. Increasing temperature consistently accelerates the degradation of both quantum correlations and purity, whereas increasing dissipation accelerates the degradation of quantum correlations but leads to higher steady-state purity. Increasing the squeezing parameter provides a protective effect by enhancing initial correlations and prolonging entanglement survival time, while increasing the coupling constant leads to higher quantum correlations. The asymmetry parameter exhibits only a weak influence on the correlation evolution. Our analysis reveals that quantum discord demonstrates stronger resilience than entanglement, which can present more complex behaviour including entanglement sudden death and possible temporary revivals and re-suppressions. These findings provide valuable insights for developing robust quantum information protocols and strategies for preserving quantum correlations in realistic open quantum systems, with potential extensions to non-Markovian regimes and multi-mode architectures.

Two-quanta processes in coupled double-quantum-dot cavity systems

The quantum dynamics of a compound sample consisting from a semiconductor double quantum dot (DQD) system non-linearly coupled with a leaking single-mode micro-resonator is theoretically investigated. The focus is on the resonance condition when the transition frequency of the double quantum dot equals to the doubled resonator frequency, respectively, and the resulting interplay among the involved phonon or photon channels. As a result, the steady-state quantum dynamics of this complex non-linear system exhibits a variety of possible effects that have been demonstrated here. Particularly, we have found the relationship among the electrical current through the double quantum dot and the microwave field inside the resonator that is nonlinearly coupled to it, with a corresponding emphasizing on their critical behaviors. Additionally, the quantum correlations of the photon flux generated into the resonator mode vary from super-Poissonian to Poissonian photon statistics, leading to single-qubit lasing phenomena at microwave frequencies.

The effect of noisy environment on Secure Quantum Teleportation of uni-modal Gaussian states

Quantum communication networks can be built on quantum teleportation, which is the transmission of an unknown quantum state from a sending station to a remote receiving station supported by entangled states and classical communication. We use a continuous variable two-mode squeezed vacuum state as a resource state for the quantum teleportation. This state is shared by Alice and Bob, and their system comes into contact with a squeezed thermal environment. The conditions for a secure quantum teleportation require a teleportation fidelity larger than 2/3 and two-way steering of the resource state. We investigate the time evolution of the steering and the fidelity of teleportation in order to determine the values of the parameters required for a successful secure quantum teleportation of a coherent Gaussian state. We show that the temperature, dissipation rate and squeezing parameter of the squeezed thermal reservoir limit the feasible duration for secure quantum teleportation, while by increasing the squeezing parameter of the initial state one can effectively expand the temporal range for a successful secure quantum teleportation.

Steering witnesses for unknown Gaussian quantum states

We define and fully characterize the witnesses based on second moments detecting steering in Gaussian states by means of Gaussian measurements. All such tests, which arise from linear combination of variances or second moments of canonical operators, are easily implemented in experiments. We propose also a set of linear constraints fully characterizing steering witnesses when the steered party has one bosonic mode, while in the general case the constraints restrict the set of tests detecting steering. Given an unknown quantum state we implement a semidefinite program providing the appropriate steering test with respect to the number of random measurements performed. Thus, it is a "repeat-until-success" method allowing for steering detection with less measurements than in full tomography. We study the efficiency of steering detection for two-mode squeezed vacuum states, for two-mode general unknown states, and for three-mode continuous variable GHZ states. In addition, we discuss the robustness of this method to statistical errors.

Dynamics of quantum discord of two coupled spin-1/2 subjected to time-dependent magnetic fields

We describe the dynamics of quantum discord of two interacting spin-1/2 subjected to controllable time-dependent magnetic fields. The exact time evolution of discord is given for various input mixed states consisting of classical mixtures of two Bell states. The quantum discord manifests a complex oscillatory behaviour in time and is compared with that of quantum entanglement, measured by concurrence. The interplay of the action of the time-dependent magnetic fields and the spin-coupling mechanism in the occurrence and evolution of quantum correlations is examined in detail.

Quantum Correlation Dynamics in Controlled Two-Coupled-Qubit Systems

We study and compare the time evolutions of concurrence and quantum discord in a driven system of two interacting qubits prepared in a generic Werner state. The~corresponding quantum dynamics is exactly treated and manifests the appearance and disappearance of entanglement. Our analytical treatment transparently unveils the physical reasons for the occurrence of such a phenomenon, relating it to the dynamical invariance of the $X$ structure of the initial state. The~quantum correlations which asymptotically emerge in the system are investigated in detail in terms of the time evolution of the fidelity of the initial Werner state.

Detecting entanglement of unknown continuous variable states with random measurements

We explore the possibility of entanglement detection in continuous variable systems by entanglement witnesses based on covariance matrices, constructible from random homodyne measurements. We propose new linear constraints characterizing the entanglement witnesses based on second moments, and use them in a semidefinite program providing the optimal entanglement test for given random measurements. We test the method on the class of squeezed vacuum states and study the efficiency of entanglement detection in general unknown covariance matrices.

Entanglement versus cooling in the system of a driven pair of two-level qubits longitudinally coupled with a boson mode field

The relationship among the entanglement creation within coherently pumped and closely spaced two-level emitters longitudinally coupled with a single-mode boson field, and the subsequent quantum cooling of the boson mode is investigated. Even though the two-level qubits are resonantly driven, we have demonstrated an efficient cooling mechanism well below limits imposed by the thermal background. Furthermore, the cooling effect is accompanied by entanglement of the qubit pair components when the dipole-dipole frequency shift is close to the frequency of the boson mode. The maximum boson mode cooling efficiency realizes on the expense of the entanglement creation. Importantly, this occurs for rather weak external pumping fields protecting the sample from the deteriorations. Finally, the conditions to effectively optimize these effects are described as well.

Entanglement of a laser driven pair of two-level qubits via its phonon environment

The entanglement dynamics of a laser-pumped two-level quantum dot pair is investigated in the steady-state. The closely spaced two-level emitters, embedded in a semiconductor substrate, interact with both the environmental vacuum modes of the electromagnetic field reservoir as well as with the lattice vibrational phonon thermostat. We have found that the entanglement among the pair's components is substantially enhanced due to presence of the phonon subsystem. The reason is phonon induced decay among the symmetrical and antisymmetrical two-qubit collective states and, consequently, the population of the latter one. This also means that through thermal phonon bath engineering one can access the subradiant two-particle cooperative state.

Suppression of entanglement in two-mode Gaussian open systems

We study the evolution of the entanglement of two independent bosonic modes embedded in a thermal environment, in the framework of the theory of open quantum systems. As a measure of entanglement we use the logarithmic negativity. For a non-zero temperature of the thermal reservoir the entangled initial Gaussian states become always separable in a finite time. For initial squeezed thermal states we calculate the survival time of entanglement and analyze its dependence on temperature, squeezing parameter and mean thermal photon numbers. For a zero temperature of the thermal bath an entangled initial state remains entangled for all finite times, but in the limit of asymptotically large times it becomes separable.

Wigner functions and spin tomograms for qubit states

We establish the relation of the spin tomogram to the Wigner function on a discrete phase space of qubits. We use the quantizers and dequantizers of the spin tomographic star-product scheme for qubits to derive the expression for the kernel connecting Wigner symbols on the discrete phase space with the tomographic symbols.

Entanglement and discord in two-mode Gaussian open quantum systems

In the framework of the theory of open systems, we give a description of quantum entanglement and quantum discord for two non-interacting modes embedded in a thermal environment. We describe the evolution of entanglement in terms of the covariance matrix for Gaussian input states. For all values of the temperature of the thermal reservoir, an initial separable squeezed thermal state remains separable for all times. In the case of an entangled initial squeezed thermal state, entanglement suppression (entanglement sudden death) takes place, for non-zero temperatures of the environment. The Gaussian quantum discord, which is a measure of all quantum correlations in the state, including entanglement, decays asymptotically in time.

Quantum correlations of two-mode Gaussian systems in a thermal environment

In the framework of the theory of open systems based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups, we give a description of continuous variable quantum entanglement and quantum discord for a system consisting of two non-interacting non-resonant bosonic modes embedded in a thermal environment. We study the time evolution of logarithmic negativity, which characterizes the degree of entanglement, and show that in the case of an entangled initial squeezed thermal state, entanglement suppression takes place for all temperatures of the environment, including zero temperature. We analyze the time evolution of the Gaussian quantum discord, which is a measure of all quantum correlations in the bipartite state, including entanglement, and show that discord decays asymptotically in time under the effect of the thermal bath. We describe also the time evolution of classical correlations and quantum mutual information, which measures the total correlations of the quantum system.

Rényi-2 quantum correlations of two-mode Gaussian systems in a thermal environment

In the framework of the theory of open systems based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups, we give a description of continuous variable Gaussian Rényi-2 (GR2) quantum discord for a system consisting of two non-interacting non-resonant bosonic modes embedded in a thermal environment. In the case of both an entangled initial squeezed vacuum state and squeezed thermal state, GR2 quantum discord has non-negative values for all temperatures of the environment. We describe also the time evolution of GR2 classical correlations and GR2 quantum mutual information of the quantum system. All these quantities tend asymptotically to zero in the long time regime under the effect of the thermal bath.

Quantum Entanglement and Quantum Discord of Two-Mode Gaussian States in a Thermal Environment

In the framework of the theory of open systems based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups, we give a description of the continuous-variable quantum entanglement and quantum discord for a system consisting of two noninteracting modes embedded in a thermal environment. Entanglement and discord are used to quantify the quantum correlations of the system. For all values of the temperature of the thermal reservoir, an initial separable Gaussian state remains separable for all times. We study the time evolution of logarithmic negativity, which characterizes the degree of entanglement, and show that in the case of an entangled initial Gaussian state, entanglement suppression (entanglement sudden death) takes place, for non-zero temperatures of the environment. Only for a zero temperature of the thermal bath the initial entangled state remains entangled for finite times. We analyze the time evolution of the Gaussian quantum discord, which is a measure of all quantum correlations in the bipartite state, including entanglement, and show that quantum discord decays asymptotically in time under the effect of the thermal bath. This is contrast with the sudden death of entanglement. Before the suppression of the entanglement, the qualitative evolution of quantum discord is very similar to that of the entanglement. We describe also the time evolution of the degree of classical correlations and of quantum mutual information, which measures the total correlations of the quantum system.

Entanglement and mixedness in open systems with continuous variables

In the framework of the theory of open systems based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups, we give a description of the dynamics of entanglement for a system consisting of two uncoupled modes interacting with a thermal environment. Using Peres-Simon necessary and sufficient criterion of separability for two-mode Gaussian states, we describe the evolution of entanglement in terms of the covariance matrix for a Gaussian input state. We determine the asymptotic Gaussian maximally entangled mixed states (GMEMS) and their corresponding asymptotic maximal logarithmic negativity, which characterizes the degree of entanglement. Using the symplectic eigenvalues of the asymptotic covariance matrix, the expressions of von Neumann entropy and mutual information of asymptotic GMEMS are obtained.
