New static solutions of symmetric $ϕ^4$ equation

In this paper, we provide new exact solutions of nonlinear Klein-Gordon ($ϕ^4$) equation in $1+1$-dimension. For simplicity, we focus on the static equation and ignore the time-dependence. The symmetric $ϕ^4$ equation has played an important role in several areas of physics. We obtain several novel non-singular solutions of the symmetric $ϕ^4$ model in terms of the Jacobi elliptic functions and compare them with the well-known solutions. Finally, we categorize these solutions in terms of the potential parameters.

New Solutions of Nonlocal NLS, mKdV and Hirota Equations

In this paper, we provide several novel solutions of the Ablowitz-Musslimani as well Yang's versions of the nonlocal nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation, nonlocal modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) as well as nonlocal Hirota equations. In each case we compare and contrast the corresponding solutions of the relevant local equation. Further, we provide new solutions of the local NLS, local mKdV and local Hirota equations which are not the solutions of the corresponding nonlocal equations.

Rationally Extended Harmonic Oscillator potential, Isospectral Family and the Uncertainity Relations

We consider the rationally extended harmonic oscillator potential which is isospectral to the conventional one and whose solutions are associated with the exceptional, $X_m$- Hermite polynomials and discuss its various important properties for different even codimension of $m$. The uncertainty relations are obtained for different $m$ and it is shown that for the ground state, the uncertainity increases as $m$ increases. A one parameter $(λ)$ family of exactly solvable isospectral potential corresponding to this extended harmonic oscillator potential is obtained. Special cases corresponding to the $λ=0$ and $λ= -1$, which give the Pursey and the Abhram-Moses potentials respectively, are discussed. The uncertainty relations for the entire isospectral family of potentials for different $m$ and $λ$ are also calculated.

Higher order complex cubic quintic Ginzburg Landau equation : Chirped solitary waves

Propagation characteristics of the chirped dissipative solitary waves are investigated within the framework of higher order complex cubic quintic Ginzburg Landau equation. Potentially rich set of exact chirped dissipative pulses, such as, bright, dark, grey, antidark, kink, antikink are derived in the presence of the self steepening, self frequency shift and nonlinear gain/loss. The linear stability results are corroborated by the direct numerical simulations. The effect of the variation of model parameters on physical quantities like the speed, amplitude and chirping are explored.

Uniform Bose-Einstein Condensates as Kovaton solutions of the Gross-Pitaevskii Equation through a Reverse-Engineered Potential

In this work, we consider a ``reverse-engineering'' approach to construct confining potentials that support exact, constant density kovaton solutions to the classical Gross-Pitaevskii equation (GPE) also known as the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE). In the one-dimensional case, the exact solution is the sum of stationary kink and anti-kink solutions, i.e. a kovaton, and in the overlapping region, the density is constant. In higher dimensions, the exact solutions are generalizations of this wave function. In the absence of self-interactions, the confining potential is similar to a smoothed out finite square well with minima also at the edges. When self-interactions are added, a term proportional to $\pm g ψ^{\ast}ψ$ gets added to the confining potential and $\pm g M$, where $M$ is the norm, gets added to the total energy. In the realm of stability analysis, we find (linearly) stable solutions in the case with repulsive self-interactions which also are stable to self-similar deformations. For attractive interactions, however, the minima at the edges of the potential get deeper and a barrier in the center forms as we increase the norm. This leads to instabilities at a critical value of $M$ (related to the number of particles in the BEC). Comparing the stability criteria from Derrick's theorem and Bogoliubov-de Gennes analysis stability results, we find that both predict stability for repulsive self-interactions and instability at a critical mass $M$ for attractive interactions. However, the numerical analysis gives a much lower critical mass. The numerical analysis shows further that the initial instabilities violate the symmetry $x\rightarrow-x$ assumed by Derrick's theorem.

Solutions of (1+1)-dimensional Dirac equation associated with exceptional orthogonal polynomials and the parametric symmetry

We consider $1+1$-dimensional Dirac equation with rationally extended scalar potentials corresponding to the radial oscillator, the trigonometric Scarf and the hyperbolic Poschl-Teller potentials and obtain their solution in terms of exceptional orthogonal polynomials. Further, in the case of the trigonometric Scarf and the hyperbolic Poschl-Teller cases, new family of Dirac scalar potentials are generated using the idea of parametric symmetry and their solutions are obtained in terms of conventional as well as exceptional orthogonal polynomials.

How close Are Integrable and Non-integrable Models: A Parametric Case Study Based on the Salerno Model

In the present work we revisit the Salerno model as a prototypical system that interpolates between a well-known integrable system (the Ablowitz-Ladik lattice) and an experimentally tractable non-integrable one (the discrete nonlinear Schrödinger model). The question we ask is: for "generic" initial data, how close are the integrable to the non-integrable models? Our more precise formulation of this question is: how well is the constancy of formerly conserved quantities preserved in the non-integrable case? Upon examining this, we find that even slight deviations from integrability can be sensitively felt by measuring these formerly conserved quantities in the case of the Salerno model. However, given that the knowledge of these quantities requires a deep physical and mathematical analysis of the system, we seek a more "generic" diagnostic towards a manifestation of integrability breaking. We argue, based on our Salerno model computations, that the full spectrum of Lyapunov exponents could be a sensitive diagnostic to that effect.

Nonlocal Superposed Solutions II: Coupled Nonlinear Equations

We obtain novel periodic as well as hyperbolic solutions of an Ablowitz-Musslimani variant of the coupled nonlocal, nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) as well as a coupled nonlocal modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equation which can be re-expressed as a linear superposition of the sum or the difference of two hyperbolic or two periodic kink or pulse solutions. Besides, we also discuss some of the other solutions admitted by these coupled equations. These results demonstrate that the notion of the superposed solutions extends to the coupled nonlocal nonlinear equations as well.

Dipole and quadrupole nonparaxial solitary waves

The cubic nonlinear Helmholtz equation with third and fourth order dispersion and non-Kerr nonlinearity like the self steepening and the self frequency shift is considered. This model describes nonparaxial ultrashort pulse propagation in an optical medium in the presence of spatial dispersion originating from the failure of slowly varying envelope approximation. We show that this system admits periodic (elliptic) solitary waves with dipole structure within a period and also transition from dipole to quadrupole structure within a period depending on the value of the modulus parameter of Jacobi elliptic function. The parametric conditions to be satisfied for the existence of these solutions are given. The effect of the nonparaxial parameter on physical quantities like amplitude, pulse-width and speed of the solitary waves are examined. It is found that by adjusting the nonparaxial parameter, the speed of solitary waves can be decelerated. The stability and robustness of the solitary waves are discussed numerically.

Kink Solutions With Power Law Tails

We present a comprehensive review about the various facets of kink solutions with a power law tail which have received considerable attention during the last few years. This area of research is in its early stages and while several aspects have become clear by now, there are a number of issues which have only been partially understood or not understood at all. We first discuss the aspects which are reasonably well known and then address in some detail the issues which are only partially or not understood at all. We present a wide class of higher (than sixth) order field theory models admitting implicit kink as well as mirror kink solutions where the two tails facing each other have a power law or a power-tower type fall off while the other two ends not facing each other could have either an exponential or a power law tail. The models admitting implicit kink solutions where the two ends facing each other have an exponential tail while the other two ends have a power law tail are also discussed. Moreover, we present several field theory models which admit explicit kink solutions with a power law fall off. We note that in all the polynomial models while the potential $V(ϕ)$ is continuous, its derivative is discontinuous. We also discuss one of the most important and only partially understood issues of the kink-kink and the kink-antikink forces in case the tails facing each other have a power law fall off. Finally, we briefly discuss the kink-antikink collisions at finite velocity and present some open questions.

Novel Superposed Kinklike and Pulselike Solutions for Several Nonlocal Nonlinear Equations

We show that a number of nonlocal nonlinear equations including the Ablowitz-Musslimani and the Yang variant of the nonlocal nonlinear Schröd-inger (NLS) equation, nonlocal modified Korteweg de Vries (mKdV) equation as well as the nonlocal Hirota equation admit novel kinklike and pulselike superposed periodic solutions. Further, we show that the nonlocal mKdV equation, in addition also admits the superposed (hyperbolic) kink-antikink solution. Besides, we show that while the nonlocal Ablowitz-Musslimani variant of the NLS admits complex (parity-time reversal or) PT-invariant kink and pulse solutions, neither the local NLS nor the Yang variant of the nonlocal NLS admits such solutions. Finally, except for the Yang variant of the nonlocal NLS, we show that the other three nonlocal equations admit both the kink and pulse solutions in the same model.

Stability of exact solutions of the $(2+1)$-dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with arbitrary nonlinearity parameter $κ$

In this work, we consider the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) in $2+1$ dimensions with arbitrary nonlinearity exponent $κ$ in the presence of an external confining potential. Exact solutions to the system are constructed, and their stability over their "mass" (i.e., the $L^2$ norm) and the parameter $κ$ is explored. We observe both theoretically and numerically that the presence of the confining potential leads to wider domains of stability over the parameter space compared to the unconfined case. Our analysis suggests the existence of a stable regime of solutions for all $κ$ as long as their mass is less than a critical value $M^{\ast}(κ)$. Furthermore, we find that there are two different critical masses, one corresponding to width perturbations and the other one to translational perturbations. The results of Derrick's theorem are also obtained by studying the small amplitude regime of a four-parameter collective coordinate (4CC) approximation. A numerical stability analysis of the NLSE shows that the instability curve $M^{\ast}(κ)$ vs. $κ$ lies below the two curves found by Derrick's theorem and the 4CC approximation. In the absence of the external potential, $κ=1$ demarcates the separation between the blowup regime and the stable regime. In this 4CC approximation, for $κ<1$, when the mass is above the critical mass for the translational instability, quite complicated motions of the collective coordinates are possible. Energy conservation prevents the blowup of the solution as well as confines the center of the solution to a finite spatial domain. We call this regime the "frustrated" blowup regime and give some illustrations. In an appendix, we show how to extend these results to arbitrary initial ground state solution data and arbitrary spatial dimension $d$.

Supersymmetry and Shape Invariance of exceptional orthogonal polynomials

We discuss the exceptional Laguerre and the exceptional Jacobi orthogonal polynomials in the framework of the supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSYQM). We express the differential equations for the Jacobi and the Laguerre exceptional orthogonal polynomials (EOP) as the eigenvalue equations and make an analogy with the time independent Schrödinger equation to define "Hamiltonians" enables us to study the EOPs in the framework of the SUSYQM and to realize the underlying shape invariance associated with such systems. We show that the underlying shape invariance symmetry is responsible for the solubility of the differential equations associated with these polynomials.

These results demonstrate that the notion of superposed solutions extends to coupled nonlinear equations as well.

Chirped Elliptic Waves: Coupled Helmholtz Equations

Exact chirped elliptic wave solutions are obtained within the framework of coupled cubic nonlinear Helmholtz equations in the presence of non-Kerr nonlinearity like self steepening and self frequency shift. It is shown that, for a particular combination of the self steepening and the self frequency shift parameters, the associated nontrivial phase gives rise to chirp reversal across the solitary wave profile. But a different combination of non-Kerr terms leads to chirping but no chirp reversal. The effect of nonparaxial parameter on physical quantities such as intensity, speed and pulse-width of the elliptic waves is studied too. It is found that the speed of the solitary wave can be tuned by altering the nonparaxial parameter. Stable propagation of these nonparaxial elliptic waves is achieved by an appropriate choice of parameters.

Coupled Helmholtz Equations : Chirped Solitary Waves

We investigate the existence and stability properties of the chirped gray and anti-dark solitary waves within the framework of coupled cubic nonlinear Helmholtz equation in the presence of self steepening and self frequency shift. We show that for a particular combination of the self steepening and the self frequency shift, there is not only chirping but also chirp reversal. Specifically, the associated nontrivial phase has two intensity dependent terms, one varies as the reciprocal of the intensity while the other, which depends on non-Kerr nonlinearities, is directly proportional to the intensity. This causes chirp reversal across the solitary wave profile. A different combination of non-Kerr terms leads to chirping but no chirp reversal. The influence of nonparaxial parameter on physical quantities such as intensity, speed and pulse-width of the solitary waves is studied too. It is found that the speed of the solitary waves can be tuned by altering the nonparaxial parameter. Stable propagation of these nonparaxial solitary waves is achieved by an appropriate choice of parameters.

Novel Deformation Function Creating or Destroying any Number of Even Kink Solutions

We present a one-parameter family of deformation functions $f(ϕ)$ which have novel properties. Firstly, the deformation function is its own inverse. We show that a class of potentials remains invariant under this deformation. Further, when applied to a certain class of kink bearing potentials, one obtains potentials which are not bounded from below. Besides, we show that there is a wide class of potentials having power law kink tails which are connected by this deformation but the corresponding kink tails of the two potentials have different asymptotic behavior. Finally, we show that when this deformation function is applied to an appropriate one-parameter family of potentials having two kink solutions, it creates new potentials with an arbitrary even number ($2n$) of kink solutions. Conversely, by starting from this potential with $2n$ kink solutions the deformation function annihilates $2n-2$ kinks and we get back the potential which we started with having only two kink solutions.
