Coordinate-energy transformation and the one-point function for the Heisenberg-Ising XXZ spin-1/2 chain on the ring

We provide explicit formulas to diagonalize the Hamiltonian for the Heisenberg-Ising XXZ spin-1/2 chain on a discrete ring. Two distinguished bases for the Hilbert space include the basis labeled by the coordinates of the particle configurations and the basis obtained from the eigenvectors of the Hamiltonian. We diagonalize the Hamiltonian by providing an explicit transformation between these two distinguished bases. The transformation from the coordinate basis to the eigenbasis is given by the well-known coordinate Bethe Ansatz. Our contribution is the transformation from the eigenbasis to the coordinate basis, which we call the inverse coordinate Bethe Ansatz transformation/formula. We prove that the inverse coordinate Bethe Ansatz transformation is indeed the inverse of the transformation obtained from the Bethe Ansatz for the case of N = 2 particles and a ring of odd length L with a small nonzero anisotropy term $\Delta < (L-1)/(2L)$ and $\Delta$ outside some exceptional finite set. The case of N > 2 particles and a ring of odd length L is numerically confirmed for different arbitrary choices of parameters and is left as a conjecture. Additionally, assuming that the conjecture is true, we derive an exact formula for the one-point function of the system through special identities for the Izergin-Korepin determinant. Moreover, if the conjecture is true, this implies that the Bethe Ansatz is complete.

Contour Integral Formulas for PushASEP on the Ring

We give contour integral formulas for the generating function of the joint distribution of the PushASEP on a ring. We obtained these formulas through a rigorous treatment of Bethe Ansatz. The approach relies on residue computations and controlling the location of the Bethe roots, which we achieve by partially decoupling the Bethe equations through extending the system of equations. Moreover, we are able to use our formulas to compute the asymptotic fluctuations for the flat and step initial conditions at the relaxation time scale.

Rewriting History in Integrable Stochastic Particle Systems

Many integrable stochastic particle systems in one space dimension (such as TASEP - Totally Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process - and its $q$-deformation, the $q$-TASEP) remain integrable if we equip each particle with its own speed parameter. In this work, we present intertwining relations between Markov transition operators of particle systems which differ by a permutation of the speed parameters. These relations generalize our previous works (arXiv:1907.09155, arXiv:1912.06067), but here we employ a novel approach based on the Yang-Baxter equation for the higher spin stochastic six vertex model. Our intertwiners are Markov transition operators, which leads to interesting probabilistic consequences. First, we obtain a new Lax-type differential equation for the Markov transition semigroups of homogeneous, continuous-time versions of our particle systems. Our Lax equation encodes the time evolution of multipoint observables of the $q$-TASEP and TASEP in a unified way, which may be of interest for the asymptotic analysis of multipoint observables of these systems. Second, we show that our intertwining relations lead to couplings between probability measures on trajectories of particle systems which differ by a permutation of the speed parameters. The conditional distribution for such a coupling is realized as a "rewriting history" random walk which randomly resamples the trajectory of a particle in a chamber determined by the trajectories of the neighboring particles. As a byproduct, we construct a new coupling for standard Poisson processes on the positive real half-line with different rates.

Non-intersecting path constructions for TASEP with inhomogeneous rates and the KPZ fixed point

We consider a discrete-time TASEP, where each particle jumps according to Bernoulli random variables with particle-dependent and time-inhomogeneous parameters. We use the combinatorics of the Robinson-Schensted-Knuth correspondence and certain intertwining relations to express the transition kernel of this interacting particle system in terms of ensembles of weighted, non-intersecting lattice paths and, consequently, as a marginal of a determinantal point process. We next express the joint distribution of the particle positions as a Fredholm determinant, whose correlation kernel is given in terms of a boundary-value problem for a discrete heat equation. The solution to such a problem finally leads us to a representation of the correlation kernel in terms of random walk hitting probabilities, generalising the formulation of Matetski, Quastel and Remenik (Acta Math., 2021) to the case of both particle- and time-inhomogeneous rates. The solution to the boundary value problem in the fully inhomogeneous case appears with a finer structure than in the homogeneous case.

Domain Walls in the Heisenberg-Ising Spin-1/2 Chain

In this paper we obtain formulas for the distribution of the left-most up-spin in the Heisenberg-Ising spin-1/2 chain with anisotropy parameter $\Delta$, also known as the XXZ spin-1/2 chain, on the one-dimensional lattice $\mathbb{Z}$ with domain wall initial conditions. We use the Bethe Ansatz to solve the Schr$\"o$dinger equation and a recent antisymmetrization identity of Cantini, Colomo, and Pronko (arXiv:1906.07636) to simplify the marginal distribution of the left-most up-spin. In the $\Delta=0$ case, the distribution $F_2$ arises. In the $\Delta \neq 0$ case, we propose a conjectural series expansion type formula based on a saddle point analysis. The conjectural formula turns out to be a Fredholm series expansion in the $\Delta \rightarrow 0$ limit and recovers the result for $\Delta = 0$.

Mapping TASEP back in time

We obtain a new relation between the distributions $\mu_t$ at different times $t\ge 0$ of the continuous-time TASEP (Totally Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process) started from the step initial configuration. Namely, we present a continuous-time Markov process with local interactions and particle-dependent rates which maps the TASEP distributions $\mu_t$ backwards in time. Under the backwards process, particles jump to the left, and the dynamics can be viewed as a version of the discrete-space Hammersley process. Combined with the forward TASEP evolution, this leads to a stationary Markov dynamics preserving $\mu_t$ which in turn brings new identities for expectations with respect to $\mu_t$. The construction of the backwards dynamics is based on Markov maps interchanging parameters of Schur processes, and is motivated by bijectivizations of the Yang-Baxter equation. We also present a number of corollaries, extensions, and open questions arising from our constructions.

Integral formulas of ASEP and $q$-TAZRP on a ring

In this paper, we obtain the transition probability formulas for the Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process (ASEP) and the $q$-deformed Totally Asymmetric Zero Range Process ($q$-TAZRP) on the ring by applying the coordinate Bethe ansatz. We also compute the distribution function for a tagged particle with general initial condition.

The KPZ Universality Class and Related Topics

These notes are based on a talk given at the 2018 Arizona School of Analysis and Mathematical Physics. We give a comprehensive introduction to the KPZ universality class, a conjectured class of stochastic process with local interactions related to random growth processes in $1+1$ dimensions. We describe some of the characteristic properties of the KPZ universality class such as scaling exponents and limiting statistics. In particular, we aim to extract the characteristic properties of the KPZ universality class by understanding the KPZ stochastic partial differential equation by a special discrete approximation given by the asymmetric simple exclusion process (ASEP). The connection with the ASEP is very important as the process enjoys a rich integrability structure that leads to many exact formulas.

Limiting speed of a second class particle in ASEP

We study the asymptotic speed of a second class particle in the two-species asymmetric simple exclusion process (ASEP) on $\mathbb{Z}$ with each particle belonging either to the first class or the second class. For any fixed non-negative integer $L$, we consider the two-species ASEP started from the initial data with all the sites of $\mathbb{Z}_{<-L}$ occupied by first class particles, all the sites of $\mathbb{Z}_{[-L,0]}$ occupied by second class particles, and the rest of the sites of $\mathbb{Z}$ unoccupied. With these initial conditions, we show that the speed of the leftmost second class particle converges weakly to a distribution supported on a symmetric compact interval $Γ\subset \mathbb{R}$. Furthermore, the limiting distribution is shown to have the same law as the minimum of $L+1$ independent random samples drawn uniformly from the interval $Γ$.

Generalizations of TASEP in discrete and continuous inhomogeneous space

We investigate a rich new class of exactly solvable particle systems generalizing the Totally Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process (TASEP). Our particle systems can be thought of as new exactly solvable examples of tandem queues, directed first- or last-passage percolation models, or Robinson-Schensted-Knuth type systems with random input. One of the novel features of the particle systems is the presence of spatial inhomogeneity which can lead to the formation of traffic jams. For systems with special step-like initial data, we find explicit limit shapes, describe hydrodynamic evolution, and obtain asymptotic fluctuation results which put the systems into the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang universality class. At a critical scaling around a traffic jam in the continuous space TASEP, we observe deformations of the Tracy-Widom distribution and the extended Airy kernel, revealing the finer structure of this novel type of phase transitions. A homogeneous version of a discrete space system we consider is a one-parameter deformation of the geometric last-passage percolation, and we obtain extensions of the limit shape parabola and the corresponding asymptotic fluctuation results. The exact solvability and asymptotic behavior results are powered by a new nontrivial connection to Schur measures and processes.

The completeness of the Bethe ansatz for the periodic ASEP

The asymmetric simple exclusion process (ASEP) for N particles on a ring with L sites may be analyzed using the Bethe ansatz. In this paper, we provide a rigorous proof that the Bethe ansatz is complete for the periodic ASEP. More precisely, we show that for all but finitely many values of the hopping rate, the solutions of the Bethe ansatz equations do indeed yield all L choose N eigenstates. The proof follows ideas of Langlands and Saint-Aubin, which draw upon a range of techniques from algebraic geometry, topology and enumerative combinatorics.

Painlevé equations, topological type property and reconstruction by the topological recursion

In this article we prove that Lax pairs associated with $\hbar$-dependent six Painlevé equations satisfy the topological type property proposed by Bergère, Borot and Eynard for any generic choice of the monodromy parameters. Consequently we show that one can reconstruct the formal $\hbar$-expansion of the isomonodromic $τ$-function and of the determinantal formulas by applying the so-called topological recursion to the spectral curve attached to the Lax pair in all six Painlevé cases. Finally we illustrate the former results with the explicit computations of the first orders of the six $τ$-functions.

Quantum Curve and the First Painlevé Equation

We show that the topological recursion for the (semi-classical) spectral curve of the first Painlevé equation $P_{\rm I}$ gives a WKB solution for the isomonodromy problem for $P_{\rm I}$. In other words, the isomonodromy system is a quantum curve in the sense of [Dumitrescu O., Mulase M., Lett. Math. Phys. 104 (2014), 635-671, arXiv:1310.6022] and [Dumitrescu O., Mulase M., arXiv:1411.1023].
