Stabilization time of finite configurations with a second class particle in discrete TASEP

We consider finite configurations of particles and holes sampled according to Bernoulli product measure and with a second class particle added to a random position. The stabilization time is the number of steps needed to reach an ordered state under discrete time TASEP dynamics with parallel update. We describe the additional time of stabilization caused by the presence of the second class particle.

The geometry of coalescing random walks, the Brownian web distance and KPZ universality

Coalescing simple random walks in the plane form an infinite tree. A natural directed distance on this tree is given by the number of jumps between branches when one is only allowed to move in one direction. The Brownian web distance is the scale-invariant limit of this directed metric. It is integer-valued and has scaling exponents 0:1:2 as compared to 1:2:3 in the KPZ world. However, we show that the shear limit of the Brownian web distance is still given by the Airy process. We conjecture that our limit theorem can be extended to the full directed landscape.

Modelling the age distribution of longevity leaders

Human longevity leaders with remarkably long lifespan play a crucial role in the advancement of longevity research. In this paper, we propose a stochastic model to describe the evolution of the age of the oldest person in the world by a Markov process, in which we assume that the births of the individuals follow a Poisson process with increasing intensity, lifespans of individuals are independent and can be characterized by a gamma-Gompertz distribution with time-dependent parameters. We utilize a dataset of the world's oldest person title holders since 1955, and we compute the maximum likelihood estimate for the parameters iteratively by numerical integration. Based on our preliminary estimates, the model provides a good fit to the data and shows that the age of the oldest person alive increases over time in the future. The estimated parameters enable us to describe the distribution of the age of the record holder process at a future time point.

Fluctuations around the diagonal in Bernoulli-Exponential first passage percolation

We prove that the rescaled one-point fluctuations of the boundary of the percolation cluster in the Bernoulli-Exponential first passage percolation around the diagonal converge to a new family of distributions. The limit law is indexed by the rescaled level of percolation $s\ge0$, it is Gaussian for $s=0$ and it converges to the Tracy--Widom distribution as $s\to\infty$. For a fixed level $s>0$ the width of the cluster in the limit as a function of a time parameter $t$ is of order $t^{2/3}$ with Tracy--Widom fluctuations as in the discrete model.

Height fluctuations for the stationary KPZ equation

We compute the one-point probability distribution for the stationary KPZ equation (i.e. initial data H(0,X)=B(X), for B(X) a two-sided standard Brownian motion) and show that as time T goes to infinity, the fluctuations of the height function H(T,X) grow like T^{1/3} and converge to those previously encountered in the study of the stationary totally asymmetric simple exclusion process, polynuclear growth model and last passage percolation. The starting point for this work is our derivation of a Fredholm determinant formula for Macdonald processes which degenerates to a corresponding formula for Whittaker processes. We relate this to a polymer model which mixes the semi-discrete and log-gamma random polymers. A special case of this model has a limit to the KPZ equation with initial data given by a two-sided Brownian motion with drift beta to the left of the origin and b to the right of the origin. The Fredholm determinant has a limit for beta>b, and the case where beta=b (corresponding to the stationary initial data) follows from an analytic continuation argument.

Asymptotic fluctuations of geometric q-TASEP, geometric q-PushTASEP and q-PushASEP

We investigate the asymptotic fluctuation of three interacting particle systems: the geometric q-TASEP, the geometric q-PushTASEP and the q-PushASEP. We prove that the rescaled particle position converges to the GUE Tracy-Widom distribution in the homogeneous case. If the jump rates of the first finitely many particles are perturbed in the first two models, we obtain that the limiting fluctuations are governed by the Baik-Ben Arous-Peche distribution and that of the top eigenvalue of finite GUE matrices.

Upper tail decay of KPZ models with Brownian initial conditions

In this paper we consider the limiting distribution of KPZ growth models with random but not stationary initial conditions introduced in [Chhita-Ferrari-Spohn 2018]. The one-point distribution of the limit is given in terms of a variational problem. By directly studying it, we deduce the right tail asymptotic of the distribution function. This gives a rigorous proof and extends the results obtained in [Meerson-Schmidt 2017].

The hard-edge tacnode process for Brownian motion

We consider $N$ non-intersecting Brownian bridges conditioned to stay below a fixed threshold. We consider a scaling limit where the limit shape is tangential to the threshold. In the large $N$ limit, we determine the limiting distribution of the top Brownian bridge conditioned to stay below a function as well as the limiting correlation kernel of the system. It is a one-parameter family of processes which depends on the tuning of the threshold position on the natural fluctuation scale. We also discuss the relation to the six-vertex model and to the Aztec diamond on restricted domains.

Fluctuations of the Arctic curve in the tilings of the Aztec diamond on restricted domains

We consider uniform random domino tilings of the restricted Aztec diamond which is obtained by cutting off an upper triangular part of the Aztec diamond by a horizontal line. The restriction line asymptotically touches the arctic circle that is the limit shape of the north polar region in the unrestricted model. We prove that the rescaled boundary of the north polar region in the restricted domain converges to the Airy$_2$ process conditioned to stay below a parabola with explicit continuous statistics and the finite dimensional distribution kernels. The limit is the hard-edge tacnode process which was first discovered in the framework of non-intersecting Brownian bridges. The proof relies on a random walk representation of the correlation kernel of the non-intersecting line ensemble which corresponds to a random tiling.

Borodin-Péché fluctuations of the free energy in directed random polymer models

We consider two directed polymer models in the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) universality class: the O'Connell-Yor semi-discrete directed polymer with boundary sources and the continuum directed random polymer with (m,n)-spiked boundary perturbations. The free energy of the continuum polymer is the Hopf-Cole solution of the KPZ equation with the corresponding (m,n)-spiked initial condition. This new initial condition is constructed using two semi-discrete polymer models with independent bulk randomness and coupled boundary sources. We prove that the limiting fluctuations of the free energies rescaled by the 1/3rd power of time in both polymer models converge to the Borodin-Peche type deformations of the GUE Tracy-Widom distribution.

Ages of records in random walks

We consider random walks with continuous and symmetric step distributions. We prove universal asymptotics for the average proportion of the age of the kth longest lasting record for k=1,2,... and for the probability that the record of the kth longest age is broken at step n. Furthermore, we show that the ranked sequence of proportions of ages converges to the Poisson-Dirichlet distribution.

Tracy-Widom limit of q-Hahn TASEP

We consider the q-Hahn TASEP which is a three-parameter family of discrete time interacting particle systems. The particles jump to the right independently according to a certain q-Binomial distribution with parallel updates. It is a generalization of the discrete time q-TASEP which is the q-deformed totally asymmetric simple exclusion process (TASEP) on Z for q in [0,1). For step initial condition, we prove that the current fluctuation of q-Hahn TASEP at time t is of order $t^{1/3}$ and asymptotically distributed as the GUE Tracy-Widom distribution. We verify the KPZ scaling theory conjecture for the q-Hahn TASEP.

The hard edge tacnode process and the hard edge Pearcey process with non-intersecting squared Bessel paths

A system of non-intersecting squared Bessel processes is considered which all start from one point and they all return to another point. Under the scaling of the starting and ending points when the macroscopic boundary of the paths touches the hard edge, a limiting critical process is described in the neighbourhood of the touching point which we call the hard edge tacnode process. We derive its correlation kernel in an explicit new form which involves Airy type functions and operators that act on the direct sum of $L^2(\mathbb R_+)$ and a finite dimensional space. As the starting points of the squared Bessel paths are set to 0, a cusp in the boundary appears. The limiting process is described near the cusp and it is called the hard edge Pearcey process. We compute its multi-time correlation kernel which extends the existing formulas for the single-time kernel. Our pre-asymptotic correlation kernel involves the ratio of two Toeplitz determinants which are rewritten using a Borodin-Okounkov type formula.

Analytic results and weighted Monte Carlo simulations for CDO pricing

We explore the possibilities of importance sampling in the Monte Carlo pricing of a structured credit derivative referred to as Collateralized Debt Obligation (CDO). Modeling a CDO contract is challenging, since it depends on a pool of (typically about 100) assets, Monte Carlo simulations are often the only feasible approach to pricing. Variance reduction techniques are therefore of great importance. This paper presents an exact analytic solution using Laplace-transform and MC importance sampling results for an easily tractable intensity-based model of the CDO, namely the compound Poissonian. Furthermore analytic formulae are derived for the reweighting efficiency. The computational gain is appealing, nevertheless, even in this basic scheme, a phase transition can be found, rendering some parameter regimes out of reach. A model-independent transform approach is also presented for CDO pricing.

The time evolution of permutations under random stirring

We consider permutations of $\{1,...,n\}$ obtained by $\lfloor\sqrt{n}t\rfloor$ independent applications of random stirring. In each step the same marked stirring element is transposed with probability $1/n$ with any one of the $n$ elements. Normalizing by $\sqrt{n}$ we describe the asymptotic distribution of the cycle structure of these permutations, for all $t\ge 0$, as $n\to\infty$.
