Branching fraction measurement of B0 --> D(*)- pi+, B- --> D(*)0 pi- and isospin analysis of B --> D(*) pi decays

Using 65 million $Υ(4S)\to B\bar{B}$ events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II $e^{+}e^{-}$ storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, we measure the color-favored branching fractions ${\cal B}(\bar{B^{0}} \to D^{+} π^{-}) = (2.55 \pm 0.05 \pm 0.16)\times 10^{-3}$, ${\cal B}(\bar{B^{0}} \to D^{*+} π^{-}) = (2.79 \pm 0.08 \pm 0.17)\times 10^{-3}$, ${\cal B}(B^{-} \to D^{0} π^{-}) = (4.90 \pm 0.07 \pm 0.22)\times 10^{-3}$ and ${\cal B}(B^{-} \to D^{*0} π^{-}) = (5.52 \pm 0.17 \pm 0.42)\times 10^{-3}$, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. With these results and the current world average for the branching fraction for the color-suppressed decay $\bar{B^{0}} \to D^{(*)0}π^{0}$, the cosines of the strong phase difference $δ$ between the $I=1/2$ and $I=3/2$ isospin amplitudes are determined to be $ \cos δ= 0.872^{+0.008+0.031}_{-0.007-0.029}$ for the $\bar{B} \to Dπ$ process and $ \cos δ= 0.924^{+0.019+0.063}_{-0.017-0.054}$ for the $\bar{B} \to D^{*}π$ process. Under the isospin symmetry, the results for $\cos δ$ suggest that final-state interactions are present in the $Dπ$ system.

Search for the reactions e+e- -> mu+ tau- and e+e- -> e+ tau-

We report on a search for the lepton-flavor-violating processes $e^+e^- \to μ^+τ^-$ and $e^+e^- \to e^+τ^-$. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 211 fb$^{-1}$ recorded by the BaBar experiment at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 10.58\ensuremath{\mathrm{Ge\kern -0.1em V}}$. We find no evidence for a signal and set the 90% confidence level upper limits on the cross sections to be $σ_{μτ} <3.8$ \ensuremath{fb} and $σ_{eτ} <9.2$\ensuremath{fb}. The ratio of the cross sections with respect to the dimuon cross section are measured to be $σ_{μτ}/σ_{μμ} < 3.4\times10^{-6}$ and $σ_{eτ}/σ_{μμ} < 8.2\times10^{-6}$.

Observation of B --> eta' K* and Evidence for B --> eta' rho+

We present an observation of $B\toη^\prime K^*$. The data sample corresponds to 232 million $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy $B$ Factory at SLAC. We measure the branching fractions (in units of $10^{-6}$) $\mathcal{B}(B^0\toη^\prime K^{*0}) = 3.8\pm1.1\pm0.5$ and $\mathcal{B}(B^+\toη^\prime K^{*+}) = 4.9^{+1.9}_{-1.7}\pm0.8$, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. A simultaneous fit results in the observation of $B\toη^\prime K^*$ with $\mathcal{B}(B\toη^\prime K^*) = 4.1_{-0.9}^{+1.0} \pm 0.5$. We also search for $B\toη^\prime ρ$ and $B\toη^\prime f_0(980)(f_0 \to π^+π^-)$ with results and 90% confidence level upper limits $\mathcal{B}(B^+\toη^\prime ρ^+) = 8.7^{+3.1}_{-2.8}{} ^{+2.3}_{-1.3}$ ($<14$), $\mathcal{B}(B^0\toη^\prime ρ^0) < 3.7$ and $\mathcal{B}(B^0\toη^\prime f_0(980)(f_0\toπ^+π^-)) < 1.5$. Charge asymmetries in the channels with significant yields are consistent with zero.

Measurement of CP Asymmetry in B0 to Ks pi0 pi0 Decays

We present a measurement of the time-dependent CP asymmetry for the neutral B-meson decay into the CP = +1 final state Ks pi0 pi0, with Ks -> pi+ pi-. We use a sample of approximately 227 million B-meson pairs recorded at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B-Factory at SLAC. From an unbinned maximum likelihood fit we extract the mixing-induced CP-violation parameter S = 0.72 +/- 0.71 +/- 0.08 and the direct CP-violation parameter C = 0.23 +/- 0.52 +/- 0.13, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.

Measurement of the B+ --> rho+ pi0 Branching Fraction and Direct CP Asymmetry

We present improved measurements of the branching fraction and CP asymmetry for the process B+ --> rho+ pi0. The data sample corresponding to 211/fb comprises 232 million Y(4S)-->BBbar decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC. The yield and CP asymmetry are measured using an extended maximum likelihood fitting method. The branching fraction and CP asymmetry are found to be BR(B+ --> rho+ pi0)= [10.2 +- 1.4(stat) +- 0.9(syst)] x 10^-6 and Acp (B+ --> rho+ pi0) = -0.01 +- 0.13(stat) +- 0.02(syst).

Measurements of CP-Violating Asymmetries in B0 to a1(1260)^{+-} pi^{-+} Decays

We present measurements of CP-violating asymmetries in the decay B0 -> a_1(1260)^{+-} pi^{-+} with a_1(1260)^{+-} -> pi^{-+} pi^{+-} pi^{+-}. The data sample corresponds to 384 million B B-bar pairs collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B-factory at SLAC. We measure the CP-violating asymmetry A^{a_1 π}_{CP}=-0.07+-0.07+-0.02, the mixing-induced CP violation parameter S_{a_1 π}= 0.37 +-0.21+-0.07, the direct CP violation parameter C_{a_1 π}=-0.10+-0.15+-0.09, and the parameters ΔC_{a_1 π}=0.26+-0.15+-0.07 and ΔS_{a_1π}=-0.14+-0.21+-0.06. From these measured quantities we determine the angle α_{\rm eff}= 78.6^{\circ} +- 7.3^{\circ}.

Inclusive Lambda_c Production in e^+e^- Annihilations at sqrt{s}=10.54 GeV and in Upsilon(4S) Decays

We present measurements of the total production rates and momentum distributions of the charmed baryon $Λ_c^+$ in $e^+e^- \to$ hadrons at a center-of-mass energy of 10.54 GeV and in $Υ(4S)$ decays. In hadronic events at 10.54 GeV, charmed hadrons are almost exclusively leading particles in $e^+e^- \to c\bar{c}$ events, allowing direct studies of $c$-quark fragmentation. We measure a momentum distribution for $Λ_c^+$ baryons that differs significantly from those measured previously for charmed mesons. Comparing with a number of models, we find none that can describe the distribution completely. We measure an average scaled momentum of $\left< x_p \right> = 0.574\pm$0.009 and a total rate of $N_{Λc}^{q\bar{q}} = 0.057\pm$0.002(exp.)$\pm$0.015(BF) $Λ_c^+$ per hadronic event, where the experimental error is much smaller than that due to the branching fraction into the reconstructed decay mode, $pK^-π^+$. In $Υ(4S)$ decays we measure a total rate of $N_{Λc}^Υ = 0.091\pm$0.006(exp.)$\pm$0.024(BF) per $Υ(4S)$ decay, and find a much softer momentum distribution than expected from B decays into a $Λ_c^+$ plus an antinucleon and one to three pions.

Search for D0--anti-D0 Mixing and Branching-Ratio Measurement in the Decay D0 --> K+ pi- pi0

We analyze 230.4 fb-1 of data collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II e+ e- collider at SLAC to search for evidence of D0--anti-D0 mixing using regions of phase space in the decay D0 --> K+ pi- pi0. We measure the time-integrated mixing rate R_M = (0.023 +0.018/-0.014(stat.) +/- 0.004(syst.))%, and R_M < 0.054% at the 95% confidence level, assuming CP invariance. The data are consistent with no mixing at the 4.5% confidence level. We also measure the branching ratio for D0 --> K+ pi- pi0 relative to D0 --> K- pi+ pi0 to be (0.214 +/- 0.008(stat.) +/- 0.008(syst.))%.

Observation of an Excited Charm Baryon OmegaC* Decaying to OmegaC0 Gamma

We report the first observation of an excited singly-charm baryon OmegaC* (css) in the radiative decay OmegaC0 Gamma, where the OmegaC0 baryon is reconstructed in the decays to the final states Omega-pi+, Omega-pi+pi0, Omega-pi+pi-pi+, and Cascade-K-pi+pi+. This analysis is performed using a dataset of 230.7 fb$-1} collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The mass difference between the OmegaC* and the OmegaC0 baryons is measured to be 70.8 +/- 1.0 (stat) +/- 1.1 (syst) MeV/c2. We also measure the ratio of inclusive production cross sections of OmegaC* and OmegaC0 in e+e- annihilation.

Measurement of B Decays to phi K gamma

We search for the decays B- -> phi K- gamma and B0bar -> phi K0bar gamma in a data sample of 228 million BBbar pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BaBar detector. We measure the branching fraction B(B- -> phi K- gamma) = (3.5 +/- 0.6 +/- 0.4) x 10^-6 and set an upper limit B(B0bar -> phi K0bar gamma) < 2.7 x 10^-6 at the 90% confidence level. We also measure the direct CP asymmetry in B- -> phi K- gamma, A_CP = (-26 +/- 14 +/- 5)%. The uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

Measurement of the B -> pi l nu Branching Fraction and Determination of |Vub| with Tagged B Mesons

We report a measurement of the B -> pi l nu branching fraction based on 211 fb-1 of data collected with the BABAR detector. We use samples of B0 and B+ mesons tagged by a second B meson reconstructed in a semileptonic or hadronic decay, and combine the results assuming isospin symmetry to obtain BF(B0 -> pi- l+ nu) = (1.33 +/- 0.17(stat) +/- 0.11(syst)) x 10^-4. We determine the magnitude of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |Vub| by combining the partial branching fractions measured in ranges of the momentum transfer squared and theoretical calculations of the form factor. Using a recent lattice QCD calculation, we find |Vub| = (4.5 +/- 0.5(stat) +/- 0.3(syst) +0.7/-0.5(FF)) x 10^-3, where the last error is due to the normalization of the form factor.

Observation of the Exclusive Reaction e+e- -> phi eta at sqrt{s}=10.58 GeV

We report the observation of $\e^+e^-\to ϕη$ near $\sqrt{s}$ = 10.58 GeV with 6.5 $σ$ significance in the $K^+K^-γγ$ final state in a data sample of 224 $fb^{-1}$ collected by the BaBar experiment at the PEP-II $e^+e^-$ storage rings. We measure the restricted radiation-corrected cross section to be $σ(\e^+e^- \to ϕη) =$$2.1\pm 0.4 (\mathrm{stat})\pm 0.1(\mathrm{syst}) \mathrm{fb}$ within the range $|\cosθ^*| < 0.8$, where $θ^*$ is the center-of-mass polar angle of the $ϕ$ meson. The $ϕ$ meson is required to be in the invariant mass range of 1.008 $< m_ϕ <$ 1.035 \gevcc. The radiation-corrected cross section in the full $\cosθ^*$ range is extrapolated to be $2.9\pm 0.5 (\mathrm{stat})\pm 0.1(\mathrm{syst}) \mathrm{fb}$.

Measurement of the Branching Fraction and Time-Dependent CP Asymmetry in the Decay B0->D*+D*-Ks

We study the decay B0->D*+D*-Ks using (230 +/- 2) x 10^{6} BBbar pairs collected by the Babar detector at the PEP-II B factory. We measure a branching fraction B(B0->D*+D*-Ks)=(4.4\pm0.4\pm0.7)\times 10^{-3} and find evidence for the decay B0->D*- D+_{s1}(2536) with a significance of $4.6σ$. A time-dependent CP asymmetry analysis is also performed to study the possible resonant contributions to B0->D*+D*-Ks and the sign of cos2beta . Our measurement indicates that there is a sizable resonant contribution to the decay B0->D*+D*-Ks from a unknown $D^+_{s1}$ state with large width, and that cos2beta is positive at the 94 % confidence level under certain theoretical assumptions.

Dalitz-plot analysis of the decays B+/- --> K+/- pi-/+ pi+/-

We report a Dalitz-plot analysis of the charmless hadronic decays of charged B mesons to the final state K+/- pi-/+ pi+/-. Using a sample of 226.0 +/- 2.5 million BBbar pairs collected by the BaBar detector, we measure the magnitudes and phases of the intermediate resonant and nonresonant amplitudes for both charge conjugate decays. We present measurements of the corresponding branching fractions and their charge asymmetries that supersede those of previous BaBar analyses. We find the charge asymmetries to be consistent with zero.

A Structure at 2175 MeV in $e^+ e^- \to ϕf_0(980)$ Observed via Initial-State Radiation

We study the initial-state-radiation processes $e^+ e^- \to K^+ K^-π^+π^-γ$ and $e^+ e^- \to K^+ K^-π^0π^0γ$ using an integrated luminosity of 232 fb$^{-1}$ collected at the $Υ(4S)$ mass with the BaBar detector at SLAC. Even though these reactions are dominated by intermediate states with excited kaons, we are able to study for the first time the cross section for $e^+ e^- \to ϕ(1020) f_{0}(980)$ as a function of center-of-mass energy. We observe a structure near threshold consistent with a $1^{--}$ resonance with mass $m = 2.175 \pm 0.010\pm 0.015 GeV/c^2$ and width $Γ= 58\pm 16\pm 20 MeV$. We observe no Y(4260) signal and set a limit of $BR_{Y\toϕπ^+π^-}\cdotΓ^{Y}_{ee}<0.4$ eV (90% confidence level), which excludes some models.
