Tensor Correlations Measured in 3He(e,e'pp)n

We have measured the 3He(e,e'pp)n reaction at an incident energy of 4.7 GeV over a wide kinematic range. We identified spectator correlated pp and pn nucleon pairs using kinematic cuts and measured their relative and total momentum distributions. This is the first measurement of the ratio of pp to pn pairs as a function of pair total momentum, $p_{tot}$. For pair relative momenta between 0.3 and 0.5 GeV/c, the ratio is very small at low $p_{tot}$ and rises to approximately 0.5 at large $p_{tot}$. This shows the dominance of tensor over central correlations at this relative momentum.

Differential cross sections and recoil polarizations for the reaction gamma p -> K+ Sigma0

High-statistics measurements of differential cross sections and recoil polarizations for the reaction $γp \rightarrow K^+ Σ^0$ have been obtained using the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab. We cover center-of-mass energies ($\sqrt{s}$) from 1.69 to 2.84 GeV, with an extensive coverage in the $K^+$ production angle. Independent measurements were made using the $K^{+}pπ^{-}$($γ$) and $K^{+}p$($π^-, γ$) final-state topologies, and were found to exhibit good agreement. Our differential cross sections show good agreement with earlier CLAS, SAPHIR and LEPS results, while offering better statistical precision and a 300-MeV increase in $\sqrt{s}$ coverage. Above $\sqrt{s} \approx 2.5$ GeV, $t$- and $u$-channel Regge scaling behavior can be seen at forward- and backward-angles, respectively. Our recoil polarization ($P_Σ$) measurements represent a substantial increase in kinematic coverage and enhanced precision over previous world data. At forward angles we find that $P_Σ$ is of the same magnitude but opposite sign as $P_Λ$, in agreement with the static SU(6) quark model prediction of $P_Σ\approx -P_Λ$. This expectation is violated in some mid- and backward-angle kinematic regimes, where $P_Σ$ and $P_Λ$ are of similar magnitudes but also have the same signs. In conjunction with several other meson photoproduction results recently published by CLAS, the present data will help constrain the partial wave analyses being performed to search for missing baryon resonances.

The GlueX Central Drift Chamber: Design and Performance

Tests and studies concerning the design and performance of the GlueX Central Drift Chamber (CDC) are presented. A full-scale prototype was built to test and steer the mechanical and electronic design. Small scale prototypes were constructed to test for sagging and to do timing and resolution studies of the detector. These studies were used to choose the gas mixture and to program a Monte Carlo simulation that can predict the detector response in an external magnetic field. Particle identification and charge division possibilities were also investigated.

Measurement of Single and Double Spin Asymmetries in Deep Inelastic Pion Electroproduction with a Longitudinally Polarized Target

We report the first measurement of the transverse momentum dependence of double spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive production of pions in deep inelastic scattering off the longitudinally polarized proton. Data have been obtained using a polarized electron beam of 5.7 GeV with the CLAS detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab). A significant non-zero $\sin2ϕ$ single spin asymmetry was also observed for the first time indicating strong spin-orbit correlations for transversely polarized quarks in the longitudinally polarized proton. The azimuthal modulations of single spin asymmetries have been measured over a wide kinematic range.

Stationary Solitons of the Fifth Order KdV-type Equations and their Stabilization

Exact stationary soliton solutions of the fifth order KdV type equation $$ u_t +αu^p u_x +βu_{3x}+γu_{5x} = 0$$ are obtained for any p ($>0$) in case $αβ>0$, $Dβ>0$, $βγ<0$ (where D is the soliton velocity), and it is shown that these solutions are unstable with respect to small perturbations in case $p\geq 5$. Various properties of these solutions are discussed. In particular, it is shown that for any p, these solitons are lower and narrower than the corresponding $γ= 0$ solitons. Finally, for p = 2 we obtain an exact stationary soliton solution even when $D,α,β,γ$ are all $>0$ and discuss its various properties.

Exact Solutions To The Generalized Lienard Equations

Many new solitary wave solutions of the recently studied Lienard equation are obtained by mapping it to the field equation of the $ϕ^6-$field theory. Further, it is shown that the exact solutions of the Lienard equation are also the exact solutions of the various perturbed soliton equations. Besides, we also consider a one parameter family of generalised Lienard equations and obtain exact solitary wave solutions of these equations and show that these are also the exact solutions of the various other generalised nonlinear equations.

New Sets of Kink Bearing Hamiltonians

Given a kink bearing Hamiltonian, Isospectral Hamiltonian approach is used in generating new sets of Hamiltonains which also admit kink solutions. We use Sine-Gordon model as a example and explicitly work out the new sets of potentials and the solutions.
