Possible studies at the first stage of the NICA collider operation with polarized and unpolarized proton and deuteron beams

This paper contains suggestions for experiments with usage of the Spin Physics Detector (SPD) at the first stage of the SPD NICA Programme developing at JINR. Double polarized pp-, dd- and pd- collisions at c.m.s. NN energies of 3.4-10 GeV, which will be accessible at the initial stage of experiments, allow one to study spin dependence of the NN interaction, search for multiquark states at double strangeness, charm and beauty thresholds, study the short-range structure of the deuteron. Double polarized pd scattering offer a possibility to test the Standard Model through the search for T-invariance violation.

On Excited States of Deuteron Nucleus

For a long time it was known that deuteron, as a weakly coupled nucleon pair, has no excited states. However, A.M. Baldin et al, commenting results of the first physical experiment with accelerated nuclei at JINR synchrophasotron, assumed as far back as in 1979 that one of peaks in a differential cross-section may arise due to an "excited state of deuterium". We have established that one of the peaks in the cross-section may be explained indeed in this way and corresponds to the dibaryon reported by WASA-at-COSY Collaboration. Another peak in the same region is interpreted most likely by interference of several $N^*$-resonances, and this possibility was also mentioned in the paper by A.M. Baldin et al. Further experimental studies based on modern experimental facilities and more abundant statistics are necessary to verify these observations.

Chiral phase transition in baryon-dense matter with account of finite size effect

We consider a model of chiral phase transitions in nuclei, suggested by T.D. Lee et al., and argue that such transitions may be seen in cumulative effect investigations. Finite-range effects arising from the smallness of the system are briefly discussed. Some general proposals for future NICA and CBM experiments are given.

Quantum Elastic Net and the Traveling Salesman Problem

Theory of computer calculations strongly depends on the nature of elements the computer is made of. Quantum interference allows to formulate the Shor factorization algorithm turned out to be more effective than any one written for classical computers. Similarly, quantum wave packet reduction allows to devise the Grover search algorithm which outperforms any classical one. In the present paper we argue that the quantum incoherent tunneling can be used for elaboration of new algorithms able to solve some NP-hard problems, such as the Traveling Salesman Problem, considered to be intractable in the classical theory of computer computations.

Possibility of a modification of life time of radioactive elements by magnetic monopoles

A simple explanation of the fact that light magnetic monopoles have not been observed at accelerator experiments is given. It is based on a possibility of violation of C invariance in the electromagnetic interactions. Because of the difficulty of monopole registration, two interconnected problems arise: to formulate a theory describing monopole production (it should include a new force beyond the Standard Model of electroweak interaction), and to point the way to monopole observation. We consider a possibility, closely related to some experiments, of a modification of life time of radioactive elements by magnetic monopoles. The first part of the article is devoted to purely electromagnetic impact of monopoles, caused by the vertex M --> M + gamma. The second part, more speculative one, is based on experimental evidences in favour of the existence of some axial vector currents, responsible for a new force, which can stimulate, or suppress, decays of radioactive elements.

Peculiarities of localization of several sonoluminescent bubbles in spherical resonators

Experiments on generation of 1, 2, 4, and 6 sonoluminescent bubbles in water with an external ultrasound source in an acoustic sphere resonator with glass walls have been carried out. Theoretical examination has shown that the observed excitation frequencies could be described with a good accuracy taking into account that the velocities and pressures of the contacting media on the external and internal resonator surfaces are equal. The necessity of accounting for oscillations with non--zero self--values of angular momentum operator has been shown when describing the features of localization of several bubbles. To explain a strangely small distance between the bubbles in the case of two--bubble sonoluminescence the following possible explanations have been proposed: a) mechanism of space splitting of a mode with a singular angular momentum and b) mechanism of secondary excitation when one of the bubbles is trapped into the acoustic trap created by high--frequency vibrations arising simultaneously when the other bubble sonoluminescence occurs.

Stefan's problem and beyond

We argue that the celebrated Stefan condition on the moving interphase, accepted in mathematical physics up to now, can not be imposed if energy sources are spatially distributed in the volume. A method based on Tikhonov and Samarskii's ideas for numerical solution of the problem is developed. Mathematical modelling of energy relaxation of some processes useful in modern ion beam technologies is fulfilled. Necessity of taking into account effects completely outside the Stefan formulation is demonstrated.

Possibility for Teleportation of Nuclei

Experimental realizations of QT have so far been limited to teleportation of light. The present communication gives a new experimental scheme for QT of heavy matter. We show that the standard experimental technique used in nuclear physics may be successfully applied to teleportation of spin states of atomic nuclei. It was shown that there are no theoretical prohibitions upon a possibility of a complete Bell measurement, so that implementation of all four quantum communication channels is at least theoretically available. A general expression for scattering amplitude of two 1/2-spin particles was given in the Bell operator basis, and peculiarities of Bell states registration are briefly discussed.

Nuclear Teleportation

Until recently, only science-fiction authors ventured to use a term teleportation. However, in the last few years, on the eve of upcoming new millennium, the situation changed very much. The present report gives a synopsis of main concepts in this area. The readers will be able to make sure that paradoxical phenomena in the microcosm give a possibility to demonstrate the exchange of properties between microobjects, removed at a very large distance from each other, when no forces act between them. A new experimental scheme with hydrogen and helium nuclei is proposed. It is expected that the results of these experiments will be considered as teleportation of nuclear properties of atoms of the simplest chemical elements. A problem of teleportation of the more palpable cargo is left to the physics of the more distant future.
