Stronger constraints for nanometer scale Yukawa-type hypothetical interactions from the new measurement of the Casimir force

We consider the Casimir force including all important corrections to it for the configuration used in a recent experiment employing an atomic force microscope. We calculate the long-range hypothetical forces due to the exchange of light and massless elementary particles between the atoms constituting the bodies used in the experiment --- a dielectric plate and a sphere both covered by two thin metallic layers. The corrections to these forces caused by the small surface distortions were found to be essential for nanometer Compton wave lengthes of hypothetical particles. New constraints for the constants of Yukawa-type interactions are obtained from the fact that such interactions were not observed within the limits of experimental accuracy. They are stronger up to 140 times in some range than the best constraints known up date. Different possibilities are also discussed to strengthen the obtained constraints in several times without principal changes of the experimental setup.

Wave Functions, Evolution Equations and Evolution Kernels from Light-Ray Operators of QCD

The widely used nonperturbative wave functions and distribution functions of QCD are determined as matrix elements of light-ray operators. These operators appear as large momentum limit of nonlocal hadron operators or as summed up local operators in light-cone expansions. Nonforward one-particle matrix elements of such operators lead to new distribution amplitudes describing both hadrons simultaneously. These distribution functions depend besides other variables on two scaling variables. They are applied for the description of exclusive virtual Compton scattering in the Bjorken region near forward direction and the two meson production process. The evolution equations for these distribution amplitudes are derived on the basis of the renormalization group equation of the considered operators. This includes that also the evolution kernels follow from the anomalous dimensions of these operators. Relations between different evolution kernels (especially the Altarelli-Parisi and the Brodsky-Lepage) kernels are derived and explicitly checked for the existing two-loop calculations of QCD. Technical basis of these results are support and analytically properties of the anomalous dimensions of light-ray operators obtained with the help of the $α$-representation of Green's functions.

A Modified Scheme of Triplectic Quantization

A modified version of triplectic quantization, first introduce by Batalin and Martnelius, is proposed which makes use of two independent master equations, one for the action and one for the gauge functional such that the initial classical action also obeys that master equation.

Effective Average Action in N=1 Super-Yang-Mills Theory

For N=1 Super-Yang-Mills theory we generalize the effective average action Gamma_k in a manifest supersymmetric way using the superspace formalism. The exact evolution equation for Gamma_k is derived and, introducing as an application a simple truncation, the standard one-loop beta-function of N=1 SYM theory is obtained.

OSp(1,2)-covariant Lagrangian quantization of irreducible massive gauge theories

The osp(1,2)-covariant Lagrangian quantization of general gauge theories is formulated which applies also to massive fields. The formalism generalizes the Sp(2)-covariant BLT approach and guarantees symplectic invariance of the quantized action. The dependence of the generating functional of Green's functions on the choice of gauge in the massive case disappears in the limit m = 0. Ward identities related to osp(1,2) symmetry are derived. Massive gauge theories with closed algebra are studied as an example.

Constraints for hypothetical interactions from a recent demonstration of the Casimir force and some possible improvements

The Casimir force is calculated in the configuration of a spherical lens and a disc of finite radius covered by $Cu$ and $Au$ thin layers which was used in a recent experiment. The correction to the Casimir force due to finiteness of the disc radius is shown to be negligible. Also the corrections are discussed due to the finite conductivity, large-scale and short-scale deviations from the perfect shape of the bounding surfaces and the temperature correction. They were found to be essential when confronting the theoretical results with experimental data. Both Yukawa-type and power-law hypothetical forces are computed which may act in the configuration under consideration due to the exchange of light and/or massless elementary particles between the atoms of the lens and the disc. New constraints on the constants of these forces are determined which follow from the fact that they were not observed within the limits of experimental errors. For Yukawa-type forces the new constraints are up to 30 times stronger than the best ones known up today. A possible improvement of experimental parameters is proposed which gives the possibility to strengthen constraints on Yukawa-type interactions up to $10^4$ times and on power-law interactions up to several hundred times.

Twist-2 Light-Ray Operators: Anomalous Dimensions and Evolution Equations

The non-singlet and singlet anomalous dimensions of the twist--2 light-ray operators for unpolarized and polarized deep inelastic scattering are calculated in $O(α_s)$. We apply these results for the derivation of evolution equations for partition functions, structure functions, and wave functions which are defined as Fourier transforms of the matrix elements of the light-ray operators. Special cases are the Altarelli-Parisi and Brodsky-Lepage kernels. Finally we extend Radyushkin's solution from the non-singlet to the singlet case.

Symmetry properties of massive gauge theories in nonlinear background gauges: Background dependence of Green functions

Nonabelian gauge theories with a generic background field A_mu in nonlinear gauges due to Delbourgo and Jarvis are investigated. The A_mu-dependence is completely determined by the help of a linear differential equation which obtaines from the Kluberg-Stern-Zuber and the Lee identity. Its integration leads to a relation between the one-particle irreducible vertex functional in the background field A_mu and the corresponding functional for A_mu = 0. An analogous relation holds for the generating functional of the complete Green functions which, after restriction to physical Green functions, is used to confirm a result obtained by Rouet in the case of linear background gauge.

On the leading logarithmic evolution of the off-forward distributions

We have found the analytical solution of the LO-evolution equation for off-forward distributions which arise in the processes of deeply virtual Compton scattering or exclusive production of mesons. We present the predictions for their evolution with an input distribution taken from recent bag model calculations.

Evolution Kernels for Light-Ray Operators: Twist 2 and Twist 3 Contributions

The general evolution kernels of the twist 2 light-ray operators for unpolarized and polarized deep inelastic scattering are calculated in ${\cal O}(α_s)$. From these evolution kernels a series of special evolution equations can be derived, among them the Altarelli-Parisi equations and the evolution equation for the meson wave function. In the case of twist 3 the results of Balitzki and Braun are confirmed.

On the Evolution Kernels of Twist 2 Light-Ray Operators for Unpolarized and Polarized Deep Inelastic Scattering

The non-singlet and singlet evolution kernels of the twist--2 light-ray operators for unpolarized and polarized deep inelastic scattering are calculated in $O(α_s)$ for the general case of virtualities $q^2, q'^2 \neq 0$. Special cases as the kernels for the general single-variable evolution equation and the Altarelli-Parisi and Brodsky-Lepage limits are derived from these results.

Curvature-induced phase transition in three-dimensional Thirring model

The effective potential of composite fermion fields in three-dimensional Thirring model in curved spacetime is calculated in linear curvature approximation. The phase transition accompanied by the creation of non-zero chiral invariant bifermionic vector-like condensate is shown to exist. The type of this phase transition is discussed.

The evolution of the nonsinglet twist-3 parton distribution function

The twist three contributions to the $Q^2$-evolution of the spin-dependent structure function $g_2(x_{Bj},Q^2)$ are considered in the non-local operator product approach. Defining appropriate twist three distribution function we derive their evolution equation for the nonsinglet case in leading order approximation. In the limit $x_{Bj} \rightarrow 1$ as well as in the large $N_c$ limit we confirm the result that the evolution of the nonsinglet part of $g_2$ is governed by a Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi equation.

Evolution Kernels of Twist-3 Light-Ray Operators in Polarized Deep Inelastic Scattering

The twist three contributions to the $Q^2$-evolution of the spin-dependent structure function $g_2(x)$ are considered in the non-local operator product approach. Starting from the perturbative expansion of the T-product of two electromagnetic currents, we introduce the nonlocal light-cone expansion proved by Anikin and Zavialov and determine the physical relevant set of light-ray operators of twist three. Using the equations of motion we show the equivalence of these operators to the Shuryak-Vainshtein operators plus the mass operator, and we determine their evolution kernels using the light-cone gauge with the Leibbrandt-Mandelstam prescription. The result of Balitsky and Braun for the twist three evolution kernel (nonsinglet case) is confirmed.

Nambu-Jona-Lasinio Model in Curved Spacetime with Magnetic Field

We discuss the phase structure of the NJL model in curved spacetime with magnetic field using $1/N$-expansion and linear curvature approximation. The effective potential for composite fields $\barψψ$ is calculated using the proper-time cut-off in the following cases: a) at non-zero curvature, b) at non-zero curvature and non-zero magnetic field, and c) at non-zero curvature and non-zero covariantly constant gauge field. Chiral symmetry breaking is studied numerically. We show that the gravitational field may compensate the effect of the magnetic field what leads to restoration of chiral symmetry.

Gauged NJL model at strong curvature

We investigate the gauged NJL--model in curved spacetime using the RG formulation and the equivalency with the gauge Higgs--Yukawa model in a modified 1/N_c -expansion. The strong curvature induced chiral symmetry breaking is found in the non-perturbative RG approach (presumably equivalent to the ladder Schwinger--Dyson equations). Dynamically generated fermion mass is explicitly calculated and inducing of Einstein gravity is briefly discussed. This approach shows the way to the non-perturbative study of the dynamical symmetry breaking at external fields.
