Universality of Symmetry and Mixed-symmetry Collective Nuclear States

The global correlation in the observed variation with mass number of the $E2$ and summed $M1$ transition strengths is examined for rare earth nuclei. It is shown that a theory of correlated $S$ and $D$ fermion pairs with a simple pairing plus quadrupole interaction leads naturally to this universality. Thus a unified and quantitative description emerges for low-lying quadrupole and dipole strengths.

Properties of perturbative multi-particle amplitudes in $ϕ^k$ and $O(N)$ theories

Threshold amplitudes are considered for multi-particle production in $ϕ^k$ and $O(N) ~ϕ^4$ theories. It is found that the disappearance of tree-level threshold amplitudes of $2$ on-shell particles producing a large number of particles occurs in $ϕ^k$ theory only for $k=3$ and $k=4$. The one-loop correction to the threshold amplitude for a highly virtual scalar particle decaying into $n$ particles in an $O(N)$ model is derived.

Summing one-loop graphs in a theory with broken symmetry

The method suggested by Lowell Brown for calculating multi-particle threshold amplitudes is extended to the one-loop level in scalar theories with broken reflection symmetry. A result for the threshold amplitude for multiparticle production is derived. It is also shown that the tree-level amplitude for 2 on-mass-shell particles producing $n$ particles vanishes at the kinematical threshold for $n>2$
