Development and validation of a forward 0.7--4 MeV quasi-monoenergetic neutron capability at the CN Van de Graaff of LNL

The CN Van de Graaff accelerator of INFN--LNL provides forward-angle quasi-monoenergetic neutrons in the 0.7--4 MeV range via the 7Li(p,n)7Be reaction on thin metallic lithium targets. This work describes the development and experimental validation of this forward neutron capability, combining comparisons of commonly used transport tools with time-of-flight (ToF) measurements. Neutron yields calculated with EPEN, FLUKA, MCNPX, and PINO are compared over the CN energy range in order to assess model-dependent variations relevant for fluence estimates. For zero incident-energy spread, a mutually consistent set of transport calculations agrees within 5% and is used as a practical reference for normalisation. The effect of incident-energy convolution on the predicted yields is examined. Time-of-flight measurements performed using a sub-nanosecond secondary pulsing system verify the timing structure and forward-angle kinematics of the quasi-monoenergetic neutron component at the detector position, with neutron arrival times consistent with the expected forward kinematics within the experimental resolution. Using measured proton currents and transport calculations based on this reference set, forward neutron fluences at the device position are estimated with an overall uncertainty of approximately 9%, including contributions from current integration, target thickness, and geometry. A short device irradiation, carried out in parallel with the ToF campaign, demonstrates measurable response under CN beam conditions and confirms the practical usability of the beam for low-MeV neutron studies. Together, these results establish the current operational performance of the CN 0° forward quasi-monoenergetic neutron capability in the 0.7--4 MeV range and identify the steps required toward routine calibrated operation.

Excitation function for natMo(p,x) reactions with covariance analysis

The excitation functions of proton induced reactions on natMo targets are measured using the activation technique followed by off-line γ-ray spectroscopy with improved precision. The experiment was performed at the BARC-TIFR Pelletron Linac Facility, Mumbai. Thin samples of natMo were irradiated with a proton beam of energies ranging from 13 to 22 MeV for measurements of various (p,x) cross sections, with an emphasis on the production of medical isotopes. The present data for 93mTc and 94gTc address and resolve the discrepancies in the existing data. The 93gTc radioisotope production is extracted with appropriate corrections for 93mTc contribution. While the measured cross sections for the production of 95gTc, 96g+mTc, 99mTc and 99Mo are consistent with the reported data, significant differences are observed for 89g+mZr. A comprehensive uncertainty analysis, including the correlation coefficients of the measured reaction cross sections is also presented.

Measurement of neutron induced reaction cross-section of tantalum with covariance analysis

The current study presents the cross-section measurement of $^{181}$Ta(n,$γ$)$^{182}$Ta reaction at 1.37 $\pm$ 0.13, 2.06 $\pm$ 0.14, 2.56 $\pm$ 0.15, and 3.05 $\pm$ 0.17 MeV neutron energies utilizing offline $γ$-ray spectroscopy. The neutrons were generated through the $^{7}$Li(p,n)$^{7}$Be reaction. The $^{115}$In(n,n'$γ$)$^{115m}$In reaction served as a monitor reaction. The covariance analysis was used to quantify the uncertainties in the measured cross-sections for the first time for the $^{181}$Ta(n,$γ$)$^{182}$Ta reaction. The present study provides detailed information on the propagation of uncertainty in the overall result. The required corrections for low energy background neutron and $γ$-ray coincidence summing effect have been made in the present measurement. The output is compared with the pre-existing cross-section data from the EXFOR database, evaluated data libraries and theoretical model predictions.

First Measurement of the Asymmetry and the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn Integrand from $\vec{{^3}He}(\vecγ,p)d$ reaction at the Incident Photon Energy of 29 MeV

The first measurement of the $\vec{^3He}(\vecγ,p)d$ process was performed at the High Intensity $γ$-ray Source (HI$γ$S) facility at Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL) using a circularly polarized, monoenergetic $γ$-ray beam and a longitudinally polarized $^3$He target. The spin-dependent asymmetry and the contribution from the two-body photodisintegration to the $^3$He Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn integrand are extracted and compared with state-of-the-art three-nucleon system calculations at the incident photon energy of 29.0 MeV. The data are in general agreement with the various theoretical predictions based on the Siegert theorem or on explicit inclusion of meson-exchange currents.

Towards a More Complete and Accurate Experimental Nuclear Reaction Data Library (EXFOR): International Collaboration Between Nuclear Reaction Data Centres (NRDC)

The International Network of Nuclear Reaction Data Centres (NRDC) coordinated by the IAEA Nuclear Data Section (NDS) is successfully collaborating in the maintenance and development of the EXFOR library. As the scope of published data expands (e.g., to higher energy, to heavier projectile) to meet the needs from the frontier of sciences and applications, it becomes nowadays a hard and challenging task to maintain both completeness and accuracy of the whole EXFOR library. The paper describes evolution of the library with highlights on recent developments.

First Measurements of Spin-Dependent Double-Differential Cross Sections and the GDH Integrand from \vec{^3He}(\vecγ,n)pp at Incident Photon Energies of 12.8 and 14.7 MeV

The first measurement of the three-body photodisintegration of longitudinally-polarized ^3He with a circularly-polarized γ-ray beam was carried out at the High Intensity γ-ray Source (HIγS) facility located at Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL). The spin-dependent double-differential cross sections and the contributions from the three-body photodisintegration to the ^3He GDH integrand are presented and compared with state-of-the-art three-body calculations at the incident photon energies of 12.8 and 14.7 MeV. The data reveal the importance of including the Coulomb interaction between protons in three-body calculations.

Search for Spin-Dependent Short-Range Force Using Optically Polarized $^3$He Gas

We propose a new method to detect short-range \textit{P-} and \textit{T-} violating interactions between nucleons, based on measuring the precession frequency shift of polarized $^3$He nuclei in the presence of an unpolarized mass. To maximize the sensitivity, a high-pressure $^3$He cell with thin glass windows (250 $\rmμm$) is used to minimize the distance between the mass and $^3$He. The magnetic field fluctuation is suppressed by using the $^3$He gas in a different region of the cell as a magnetometer. Systematic uncertainties from the magnetic properties of the mass are suppressed by flipping both the magnetic field and spin directions. Without any magnetic shielding, our result has already reached the sensitivity of the current best limit. With improvement in uniformity and stability of the field, we can further improve the sensitivity by two orders of magnitude over the force range from $10^{-4}-10^{-2}$ m.
