A newly developed multi-kilo-channel high-speed and precision waveform digitization system for neutrino experiments

The Jinping Neutrino Experiment(JNE), conducted within the China Jinping Underground Laboratory, aims to detect and analyze of solar neutrinos, geo-neutrinos, and supernova neutrinos. A one-ton prototype will soon be in commision with an upgrade from 30 channels to 60 channels, which will increase the data bandwidth by one to two orders of magnitude and exceed the capacity of the current CAEN DAQ system. Additionally, enhancing the performance and flexibility of JNE DAQ system is crucial. This paper presents the design of a new Tsinghua DAQ system for the JNE and its performance and stability. The new Tsinghua DAQ(THDAQ) system for JNE is based on the cPCI protocol and demonstrates powerful performance improvements: ADC ENOB of the THDAQ system approximately exceeds 9.8-bit, marking a 14% improvement over the CAEN DAQ system; The maximum clock deviation within a single chassis is 85.6 ps, satisfying sub-nanosecond synchronization criteria; Each DAQ board features two QSFP+ optical ports with 82.5Gbps transmission capability, while the PCIe board supports a transmission rate of 100.2 Gbps. In addition, comparative experiments between the two systems were also tested in detail. The analysis results of waveform and charge spectrum prove the high stability of the THDAQ system. This provides a foundation for the 60-channel and 4000-channel DAQ systems.

Turn Tree into Graph: Automatic Code Review via Simplified AST Driven Graph Convolutional Network

Automatic code review (ACR), which can relieve the costs of manual inspection, is an indispensable and essential task in software engineering. To deal with ACR, existing work is to serialize the abstract syntax tree (AST). However, making sense of the whole AST with sequence encoding approach is a daunting task, mostly due to some redundant nodes in AST hinder the transmission of node information. Not to mention that the serialized representation is inadequate to grasp the information of tree structure in AST. In this paper, we first present a new large-scale Apache Automatic Code Review (AACR) dataset for ACR task since there is still no publicly available dataset in this task. The release of this dataset would push forward the research in this field. Based on it, we propose a novel Simplified AST based Graph Convolutional Network (SimAST-GCN) to deal with ACR task. Concretely, to improve the efficiency of node information dissemination, we first simplify the AST of code by deleting the redundant nodes that do not contain connection attributes, and thus deriving a Simplified AST. Then, we construct a relation graph for each code based on the Simplified AST to properly embody the relations among code fragments of the tree structure into the graph. Subsequently, in the light of the merit of graph structure, we explore a graph convolution networks architecture that follows an attention mechanism to leverage the crucial implications of code fragments to derive code representations. Finally, we exploit a simple but effective subtraction operation in the representations between the original and revised code, enabling the revised difference to be preferably learned for deciding the results of ACR. Experimental results on the AACR dataset illustrate that our proposed model outperforms the state-of-the-art methods.

Distributed Data-Processing Pipeline for Mingantu Ultrawide Spectral Radioheliograph

The Chinese Spectral RadioHeliograph (CSRH) is a synthetic aperture radio interferometer built in Inner Mongolia, China. As a solar-dedicated interferometric array, CSRH is capable of producing high quality radio images at frequency range from 400 MHz to 15 GHz with high temporal, spatial, and spectral resolution. To implement high cadence imaging at wide-band and obtain more than 2 order higher multiple frequencies, the implementation of the data processing system for CSRH is a great challenge. It is urgent to build a pipeline for processing massive data of CSRH generated every day. In this paper, we develop a high performance distributed data processing pipeline (DDPP) built on the OpenCluster infrastructure for processing CSRH observational data including data storage, archiving, preprocessing, image reconstruction, deconvolution, and real-time monitoring. We comprehensively elaborate the system architecture of the pipeline and the implementation of each subsystem. The DDPP is automatic, robust, scalable and manageable. The processing performance under multi computers parallel and GPU hybrid system meets the requirements of CSRH data processing. The study presents an valuable reference for other radio telescopes especially aperture synthesis telescopes, and also gives an valuable contribution to the current and/or future data intensive astronomical observations.

Harry Potter's Cloak

The magic "Harry Potter's cloak" has been the dream of human beings for really long time. Recently, transformation optics inspired from the advent of metamaterials offers great versatility for manipulating wave propagation at will to create amazing illusion effects. In the present work, we proposed a novel transformation recipe, in which the cloaking shell somehow behaves like a "cloaking lens", to provide almost all desired features one can expect for a real magic cloak. The most exciting feature of the current recipe is that an object with arbitrary characteristics (e.g., size, shape or material properties) can be invisibilized perfectly with positive-index materials, which significantly benefits the practical realization of a broad-band cloaking device fabricated with existing materials. Moreover, the one concealed in the hidden region is able to undistortedly communicate with the surrounding world, while the lens-like cloaking shell will protect the cloaked source/sensor from being traced back by outside detectors by creating a virtual image.

Anisotropic dressing of charge-carriers in the electron-doped cuprate superconductor Sm(1.85)Ce(0.15)CuO(4) from angle-resolved photoemission measurements

Angle-resolved photoemission measurements on the electron-doped cuprate Sm(1.85)Ce(0.15)CuO(4) evidence anisotropic dressing of charge-carriers due to many-body interactions. Most significantly, the scattering rate along the zone boundary saturates for binding energies larger than ~200 meV, while along the diagonal direction it increases nearly linearly with the binding energy in the energy range ~150-500 meV. These results indicate that many-body interactions along the diagonal direction are strong down to the bottom of the band, while along the zone-bounday they become very weak at energies above ~200 meV.

Observation of a 500meV Collective Mode in La$_{2-x}$Sr$_x$CuO$_4$ and Nd$_2$CuO$_4$

Utilizing resonant inelastic x-ray scattering, we report a previously unobserved mode in the excitation spectrum of La$_{2-x}$Sr$_x$CuO$_4$ at 500 meV. The mode is peaked around the ($π$,0) point in reciprocal space and is observed to soften, and broaden, away from this point. Samples with x=0, 0.01, 0.05, and 0.17 were studied. The new mode is found to be rapidly suppressed with increasing Sr content and is absent at $x$=0.17, where it is replaced by a continuum of excitations. The peak is only observed when the incident x-ray polarization is normal to the CuO planes and is also present in Nd$_2$CuO$_4$. We suggest possible explanations for this excitation.

Local tunneling spectroscopy of the electron-doped cuprate Sm1.85Ce0.15CuO4

We present local tunneling spectroscopy in the optimally electron-doped cuprate Sm2-xCexCuO4 x=0.15. A clear signature of the superconducting gap is observed with an amplitude ranging from place to place and from sample to sample (Delta~3.5-6meV). Another spectroscopic feature is simultaneously observed at high energy above \pm 50meV. Its energy scale and temperature evolution is found to be compatible with previous photoemission and optical experiments. If interpreted as the signature of antiferromagnetic order in the samples, these results could suggest the coexistence on the local scale of antiferromagnetism and superconductivity on the electron-doped side of cuprate superconductors.

c-Axis longitudinal magnetoresistance of the electron-doped superconductor Pr1.85Ce0.15CuO4

We report c-axis resistivity and longitudinal magnetoresistance measurements of superconducting Pr1.85Ce0.15CuO4 single crystals. In the temperature range 13K<T<32K, a negative magnetoresistance is observed at fields just above Hc2. Our studies suggest that this negative magnetoresistance is caused by superconducting fluctuations. At lower temperatures (T<13K), a different magnetoresistance behavior and a resistivity upturn are observed, whose origin is still unknown.

Is La1.85Y0.15CuO4 an oxygen-doped cuprate superconductor?

We report resistivity, Hall effect, Nernst effect, and magnetoresistance measurements on T'-phase La1.85Y0.15CuO (LYCO) films prepared by pulsed laser deposition under different oxygen conditions. Our results show that superconductivity in LYCO originates from an oxygen-doped Mott-like insulator and not from a weakly correlated, half-filled band metal as proposed previously.

Odd and even magnetic resonant modes in highly overdoped Bi_2 Sr_2 Ca Cu_2 O_{8+delta}

We present inelastic neutron scattering data on highly overdoped Bi_2 Sr_2 Ca Cu_2 O_{8+δ} single crystals with superconducting transition temperature T_C=70 K and, for comparison, a nearly optimally doped crystal with T_C=87 K. In both samples, magnetic resonant modes with odd and even symmetry under exchange of the two CuO_2 layers in the unit cell are observed. In the overdoped sample, the linewidth of the odd mode is reduced compared with the optimally doped sample. This finding is discussed in conjunction with recent evidence for intrinsic inhomogeneities in this compound. The data on odd and even resonant excitations are otherwise fully consistent with trends established on the basis of data on YBa_2Cu_3O_{6+x}. This confirms the universality of these findings and extends them into the highly overdoped regime of the phase diagram.

A single intrinsic Josephson junction with double-sided fabrication technique

We make stacks of intrinsic Josephson junctions (IJJs) imbedded in the bulk of very thin ($d\leq 100$~nm) $\mathrm{Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+x}}$ single crystals. By precisely controlling the etching depth during the double-sided fabrication process, the stacks can be reproducibly tailor-made to be of any microscopic height ($0-9 \mathrm{nm} <d$), i.e. enclosing a specified number of IJJ (0-6), including the important case of a single junction. We discuss reproducible gap-like features in the current-voltage characteristics of the samples at high bias.

Magnetic field dependence of the low-temperature specific heat of the electron-doped superconductor Pr1.85Ce0.15CuO4

We remeasured the magnetic field dependence of the low-temperature specific heat of the electron-doped superconductor Pr1.85Ce0.15CuO4 (T_C=22\pm 2K) under a different measurement procedure. Under field-cooling, the electronic specific heat follows C_{el}(H, T)=γ(H)T from 4.5K down to 1.8K. In the field range H_{C1}<H<0.5 H_{C2}, the Sommerfeld coefficient γ(H) is well fit by a power-law γ(H)\sim H^{1/2}. This result suggests that the pairing symmetry is d-wave-like at all temperatures below 4.5K. Our new measurement shows no evidence for the linear field dependence of γ(H) found previously at T=2K.

Critical point and the nature of the pseudogap of single-layered copper-oxide Bi$_{2}$Sr$_{2-x}$La$_{x}$CuO$_{6+δ}$ superconductors

We apply strong magnetic fields of H=28.5 \sim 43 T to suppress superconductivity (SC) in the cuprates Bi_{2}Sr_{2-x}La_xCuO_{6+δ} (x=0.65, 0.40, 0.25, 0.15 and 0), and investigate the low temperature (T) normal state by ^{63}Cu nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate (1/T_1) measurements. We find that the pseudogap (PG) phase persists deep inside the overdoped region but terminates at x \sim 0.05 that corresponds to the hole doping concentration of approximately 0.21. Beyond this critical point, the normal state is a Fermi liquid characterized by the T_1T=const relation. A comparison of the superconducting state with the H-induced normal state in the x=0.40 (T_c = 32 K) sample indicates that there remains substantial part of the Fermi surface even in the fully-developed PG state, which suggests that the PG and SC are coexisting matters.

Two resonant magnetic modes in an overdoped high-$\bf T_c$ superconductor

A detailed inelastic neutron scattering study of the overdoped high temperature copper oxide superconductor ${Y_{0.9}Ca_{0.1}Ba_{2}Cu_3O_{7}}$ reveals two distinct magnetic resonant modes in the superconducting state. The modes differ in their symmetry with respect to exchange between adjacent copper oxide layers. Counterparts of the mode with odd symmetry, but not the one with even symmetry, had been observed before at lower doping levels. The observation of the even mode resolves a long-standing puzzle, and the spectral weight ratio of both modes yields an estimate of the onset of particle-hole spin-flip excitations.

C-axis lattice dynamics in Bi-based cuprate superconductors

We present results of a systematic study of the c axis lattice dynamics in single layer Bi2Sr2CuO6 (Bi2201), bilayer Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 (Bi2212) and trilayer Bi2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10 (Bi2223) cuprate superconductors. Our study is based on both experimental data obtained by spectral ellipsometry on single crystals and theoretical calculations. The calculations are carried out within the framework of a classical shell model, which includes long-range Coulomb interactions and short-range interactions of the Buckingham form in a system of polarizable ions. Using the same set of the shell model parameters for Bi2201, Bi2212 and Bi2223, we calculate the frequencies of the Brillouin-zone center phonon modes of A2u symmetry and suggest the phonon mode eigenvector patterns. We achieve good agreement between the calculated A2u eigenfrequencies and the experimental values of the c axis TO phonon frequencies which allows us to make a reliable phonon mode assignment for all three Bi-based cuprate superconductors. We also present the results of our shell model calculations for the Gamma-point A1g symmetry modes in Bi2201, Bi2212 and Bi2223 and suggest an assignment that is based on the published experimental Raman spectra. The superconductivity-induced phonon anomalies recently observed in the c axis infrared and resonant Raman scattering spectra in trilayer Bi2223 are consistently explained with the suggested assignment.

Josephson plasma resonance and phonon anomalies in trilayer Bi_2Sr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_10 superconductor

The far-infrared (FIR) c axis conductivity of a Bi2223 crystal has been measured by ellipsometry. Below T$_c$ a strong absorption band develops near 500 cm $^{-1}$, corresponding to a transverse Josephson-plasmon. The related increase in FIR spectral weight leads to a giant violation of the Ferrell-Glover-Tinkham sum-rule. The gain in c axis kinetic energy accounts for a sizeable part of the condensation energy. We also observe phonon anomalies which suggest that the Josephson-currents lead to a drastic variation of the local electric field within the block of closely spaced CuO$_2$ planes.

Estimation of matrix element effects and determination of the Fermi surface in BSCCO systems using angle-scanned photoemission spectroscopy

The strong dependence of the momentum distribution of the photoelectrons on experimental conditions raises the question as to whether angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) is able to provide an accurate reflection of the Fermi surface in Bi-based cuprate superconductors. In this paper we experimentally prove that the main contribution to the intensity variation comes from matrix elements effects and develop an approach to overcome this problem. We introduce a concept of 'self-normalization' which makes the spectra essentially independent of both the matrix elements and particular experimental parameters. On the basis of this concept we suggest a simple and precise method of Fermi surface determination in quasi-2D systems.

Resonant Spin Excitation in an Overdoped High Temperature Superconductor

An inelastic neutron scattering study of overdoped Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+δ} $ (T_c = 83 K) has revealed a resonant spin excitation in the superconducting state. The mode energy is E_res=38 meV, significantly lower than in optimally doped Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+δ} (T_c = 91 K, E_ res =43 meV). This observation, which indicates a constant ratio E_res /k_B T_c \sim 5.4, helps resolve a long-standing controversy about the origin of the resonant spin excitation in high-temperature superconductors.
