On the Quantization of Length in Noncommutative Spaces

We consider canonical/Weyl-Moyal type noncommutative (NC) spaces with rectilinear coordinates. Motivated by the analogy of the formalism of the quantum mechanical harmonic oscillator problem in quantum phase-space with that of the canonical-type NC 2-D space, and noting that the square of length in the latter case is analogous to the Hamiltonian in the former case, we arrive at the conclusion that the length and area are quantized in such an NC space, if the area is expressed entirely in terms of length. We extend our analysis to 3-D case and formulate a ladder operator approach to the quantization of length in 3-D space. However, our method does not lend itself to the quantization of spacetime length in 1+1 and 2+1 Minkowski spacetimes if the noncommutativity between time and space is considered. If time is taken to commute with spatial coordinates and the noncommutativity is maintained only among the spatial coordinates in 2+1 and 3+1 dimensional spacetime, then the quantization of spatial length is possible in our approach.

On the Non-Flatness Nature of Noncommutative Minkowski Spacetime and the Singular Behavior of Probes

It is more than a century-old concept that the Minkowski spacetime is flat. From the pure geometric point of view, we explicitly address the issue of whether a noncommutative Minkowski spacetime is flat or not. In the framework of the twisted-diffeomorphism approach to noncommutative gravity with canonical type noncommutative (NC) coordinate structure, one important result that we get is that the NC Minkowski spacetime parametrized either with spherical polar coordinates or with parabolic coordinates has nontrivial NC corrections to Riemann curvature tensor, Ricci tensor and curvature scalars. Another crucial result is that the curvature scalars have singular behavior at certain points, and these singularities are not coordinate singularities. The nature of these singularities clearly points towards the idea of high-energetic probes turning into black holes. The absence of any such noncommutative corrections, and thus any such singularities, in the cases of Cartesian coordinates and cylindrical coordinates leads to the conclusion that high-energetic probes do not turn into black holes when the canonical NC structure is considered for these coordinates.

Novel Ambiguities in the Seiberg-Witten Map and the Emergent Gravity

A homogeneous part of the Seiberg-Witten gauge equivalence relation for gauge fields can lead to solutions that involve matter fields in such a way that the gauge equivalence and the dimensional and index structures are preserved. In particular, we consider scalar fields coupled to U(1) gauge fields. The matter fields appear non-linearly in the map. As an application, we analyze the implication of this ambiguity to emergent gravity at the first order in noncommutative parameter and show that the new ambiguity restores the possibility of conformal coupling of real scalar density field that is coupled non-minimally to the emergent gravity induced by gauge fields -- a possibility that is strictly not allowed if we consider only the already known ambiguity in the Seiberg-Witten map.

Remarks on the Formulation of Quantum Mechanics on Noncommutative Phase Spaces

We consider the probabilistic description of nonrelativistic, spinless one-particle classical mechanics, and immerse the particle in a deformed noncommutative phase space in which position coordinates do not commute among themselves and also with canonically conjugate momenta. With a postulated normalized distribution function in the quantum domain, the square of the Dirac delta density distribution in the classical case is properly realised in noncommutative phase space and it serves as the quantum condition. With only these inputs, we pull out the entire formalisms of noncommutative quantum mechanics in phase space and in Hilbert space, and elegantly establish the link between classical and quantum formalisms and between Hilbert space and phase space formalisms of noncommutative quantum mechanics. Also, we show that the distribution function in this case possesses 'twisted' Galilean symmetry.

U(1) gauge invariant noncommutative Schrödinger theory and gravity

We consider the complex, massive Klein-Gordon field living in the noncommutative space, and coupled to noncommutative electromagnetic fields. After employing the Seiberg-Witten map to first order, we analyze the noncommutative Klein-Gordon theory as $ c $, the velocity of light, goes to infinity. We show that the theory exhibits a regular "magnetic" limit only for certain forms of magnetic fields. The resulting theory is nothing but the Schrödinger theory in a gravitational background generated by the gauge fields.

Non-commutative Oscillators and the commutative limit

It is shown in first order perturbation theory that anharmonic oscillators in non-commutative space behave smoothly in the commutative limit just as harmonic oscillators do. The non-commutativity provides a method for converting a problem in degenerate perturbation theory to a non-degenerate problem.
