A note on toric degeneration of a Bott-Samelson-Demazure-Hansen variety

In this paper we study the geometry of toric degeneration of a Bott-Samelson-Demazure-Hansen (BSDH) variety. We give some applications to BSDH varieties. Precisely, we classify Fano, weak Fano and log Fano BSDH varieties and their toric limits in Kac-Moody setting. We prove some vanishing theorems for the cohomology of tangent bundle (and line bundles) on BSDH varieties. We also recover the results in arXiv:1604.01998, by toric methods.

Cohomology of line bundles on horospherical varieties

A horospherical variety is a normal algebraic variety where a connected reductive algebraic group acts with an open orbit isomorphic to a torus bundle over a flag variety. In this article we study the cohomology of line bundles on complete horospherical varieties.

On Mori cone of Bott towers

A Bott tower of height $r$ is a sequence of projective bundles $$X_r \overset{π_r}\longrightarrow X_{r-1} \overset{π_{r-1}}\longrightarrow \cdots \overset{π_2}\longrightarrow X_1=\mathbb P^1 \overset{π_1} \longrightarrow X_0=\{pt\}, $$ where $X_i=\mathbb P (\mathcal O_{X_{i-1}}\oplus \mathcal L_{i-1})$ for a line bundle $\mathcal L_{i-1}$ over $X_{i-1}$ for all $1\leq i\leq r$ and $\mathbb P(-)$ denotes the projectivization. These are smooth projective toric varieties and we refer to the top object $X_{r}$ also as a Bott tower. In this article, we study the Mori cone and numerically effective (nef) cone of Bott towers, and we classify Fano, weak Fano and log Fano Bott towers. We prove some vanishing theorems for the cohomology of tangent bundle of Bott towers.

On Fano and weak Fano Bott-Samelson-Demazure-Hansen varieties

Let $G$ be a simple algebraic group over the field of complex numbers. Fix a maximal torus $T$ and a Borel subgroup $B$ of $G$ containing $T$. Let $w$ be an element of the Weyl group $W$ of $G$, and let $Z(\tilde w)$ be the Bott-Samelson-Demazure-Hansen (BSDH) variety corresponding to a reduced expression $\tilde w$ of $w$ with respect to the data $(G, B, T)$. In this article we give complete characterization of the expressions $\tilde w$ such that the corresponding BSDH variety $Z(\tilde w)$ is Fano or weak Fano. As a consequence we prove vanishing theorems of the cohomology of tangent bundle of certain BSDH varieties and hence we get some local rigidity results.

Rigidity of Bott-Samelson-Demazure-Hansen variety for $PSp(2n, \mathbb C)$

Let $G=PSp(2n, \mathbb C)(n\geq 3)$ and $B$ be a Borel subgroup of $G$ containing a maximal torus $T$ of $G$. Let $w$ be an element of the Weyl group $W$ and $X(w)$ be the Schubert variety in the flag variety $G/B$ corresponding to $w$. Let $Z(w,\underline i)$ be the Bott-Samelson-Demazure-Hansen variety (the desingularization of $X(w)$) corresponding to a reduced expression $\underline i$ of $w$. In this article, we study the cohomology groups of the tangent bundle on $Z(w_0, \underline i)$, where $w_0$ is the longest element of the Weyl group $W$. We describe all the reduced expressions $\underline i$ of $w_0$ in terms of a Coxeter element such that all the higher cohomology groups of the tangent bundle on $Z(w_0, \underline i)$ vanish.

Automorphism group of a Bott-Samelson-Demazure-Hansen variety

Let $G$ be a simple, adjoint, algebraic group over the field of complex numbers, $B$ be a Borel subgroup of $G$ containing a maximal torus $T$ of $G$, $w$ be an element of the Weyl group $W$ and $X(w)$ be the Schubert variety in $G/B$ corresponding to $w$. Let $Z(w,\underline i)$ be the Bott-Samelson-Demazure-Hansen variety (the desingularization of the Schubert variety $X(w)$) corresponding to a reduced expression $\underline i$ of $w$. In this article, we compute the connected component $Aut^0(Z(w, \underline i))$ of the automorphism group of $Z(w,\underline i)$ containing the identity automorphism. We show that $Aut^0(Z(w, \underline i))$ contains a closed subgroup isomorphic to $B$ if and only if $w^{-1}(α_0)<0$, where $α_0$ is the highest root. If $w_0$ denotes the longest element of $W$, then we prove that $Aut^0(Z(w_0, \underline i))$ is a parabolic subgroup of $G$. It is also shown that this parabolic subgroup depends very much on the chosen reduced expression $\underline i$ of $w_0$ and we describe all parabolic subgroups of $G$ that occur as $Aut^0(Z(w_0, \underline i))$. If $G$ is simply laced, then we show that for every $w\in W$ and for every reduced expression $\underline i$ of $w$, $ Aut^0(Z(w, \underline i))$ is a quotient of the parabolic subgroup $Aut^0(Z(w_0, \underline j))$ of $G$ for a suitable choice of a reduced expression $\underline j$ of $w_0$. We also prove that the Bott-Samelson-Demazure-Hansen varieties are rigid for simply laced groups and their deformations are unobstructed in general.

When is the ring of $T$ invariants of the homogeneous coordinate ring of $G/B$ a polynomial algebra- connection with the Coxeter elements

In this article, we prove that for any indecomposable dominant character of a maximal torus $T$ of a simple adjoint group $G$ such that there is a Coxeter element $w \in W$ for which $X(w)^{ss}_T(\mathcal L_χ) \neq \emptyset$. If further, for any dominant character $χ_1$ of $T$ such that $χ_1\lneqq χ$ with respect to the dominant ordering, $dim(H^0(G/B, \mathcal L_{χ_1})^T) < dim (H^0(G/B, \mathcal L_χ)^T)$, then the graded algebra $\oplus_{d \in \mathbb Z_{\geq 0}}H^0(G/B, \mathcal L_χ^{\otimes d})^T$ is a polynomial ring in $r$ variables where $r\geq 2$.
