Poincare field theory for massless particles

Our main proposition is that field equations for all spins can be obtained from Casimir eigenvalue equations for Poincare group. We have already confirm that statement for massive scalar, spinor and vector fields in Ref.[1]. In the present article we are going to confirm this statement for massless vector, second and fourth rang tensor fields. In particular we will obtain Maxwell equations and Einstein equation in weak field approximation. As is well known, Wigner define a particles as irreducible representation of Poincare group [2,3]. But, as Weinberg noted in [4] irreducible representations for massless vector field with helicities $\pm 1$ do not exist. In the present article we will conform this statement for a wide class of massless fields. They are not Lorentz invariant since their Lorentz transformations have additional term in the form of gauge transformations. Such fields can appear in the theory only in the form which do not depend on corresponding gauge parameters. These forms are our equations of motion and they are by definition gauge invariant. So, the massless case is significantly different from massive one. In the end we will show that our approach can reproduce main contributions from well known articles with highest helicity.

Poincare field theory for massive particles

There is ambitious pretension formulated by Weinberg \cite{W} that {\it any relativistic quantum theory will look at sufficiently low energy like a quantum field theory.} It is based on the observation that for formulation of quantum field theory {\it ... much better starting point is Wigner's definition of particles as representations of inhomogeneous Lorentz group} \cite{Wi, BW}. To achieve that Ref.\cite{W} starts with particles and get to the field equations later. Here we propose a complementary approach and directly introduce field equations as Casimir eigenvalue problem. Note that Casimir invariants commute with all group elements and therefore commute between each other. So, they have common eigenvalues (for Poincare group mass and spin ) and common eigenstates (here irreducible representation of Poincare group). We use derivatives as standard representation for momenta $P_a \to i \partial_a$ and introduce representation for arbitrary spin operator $ S_{a b} $ with the help of recurrence relations. To solve eigenvalue problem for Casimir operators we will go to the formulation with standard momentum, where differential equations turn to algebraic ones. Then for arbitrary field $Ψ^A $ we construct projection operators on particular spins. The irreducible representations, have a role of equations of motion. For fermions we can go to linear form of equations of motion and obtain Dirac equation.

Courant bracket twisted both by a 2-form $B$ and by a bi-vector $θ$

We obtain the Courant bracket twisted simultaneously by a 2-form $B$ and a bi-vector $θ$ by calculating the Poisson bracket algebra of the symmetry generator in the basis obtained acting with the relevant twisting matrix. It is the extension of the Courant bracket that contains well known Schouten-Nijenhuis and Koszul bracket, as well as some new star brackets. We give interpretation to the star brackets as projections on isotropic subspaces.

Advantage of the second-order formalism in double space T-dualization of type II superstring

In this article we present bosonic T-dualization in double space of the type II superstring theory in pure spinor formulation. We use the action with constant background fields obtained from the general case under some physically and mathematically justified assumptions. Unlike Ref.\cite{bnbstip2}, where we used the first order theory, in this article fermionic momenta are integrated out. Full T-dualization in double space is represented as permutation of initial $x^μ$ and T-dual coordinates $y_μ$. Demanding that T-dual transformation law of the T-dual double coordinate ${}^\star Z^M=(y_μ,x^μ)$ is of the same form as for initial one $Z^M=(x^μ,y_μ)$, we obtain the form of the T-dual background fields in terms of the initial ones. Advantage of using the action with integrated fermionic momenta is that it gives all T-dual background fields in terms of the initial ones. In the case of the first order theory \cite{bnbstip2} T-dual R-R field strength was obtained out of double space formalism under additional assumptions.

The T-dual symmetries of a bosonic string

We investigate whether the symmetry transformations of a bosonic string are connected by T-duality. We start with a standard closed string theory. We continue with a modified open string theory, modified to preserve the symmetry transformations possessed by the closed string theory. Because the string theory is conformally invariant world sheet field theory, in order to find the transformations which preserve the physics, one has to demand the isomorphism between the conformal field theories corresponding to the initial and the transformed field configurations. We find the symmetry transformations corresponding to the similarity transformation of the energy-momentum tensor, and find that their generators are T-dual. Particularly, we find that the general coordinate and local gauge transformations are T-dual, so we conclude that T-duality in addition to the well known exchanges, transforms symmetries of the initial and its T-dual theory into each other.

Open string T-duality in double space

The role of double space is essential in new interpretation of T-duality and consequently in an attempt to construct M-theory. The case of open string is missing in such approach because until now there have been no appropriate formulation of open string T-duality. In the previous paper [1], we showed how to introduce vector gauge fields $A^N_a$ and $A^D_i$ at the end-points of open string in order to enable open string invariance under local gauge transformations of the Kalb-Ramond field and its T-dual "restricted general coordinate transformations". We demonstrated that gauge fields $A^N_a$ and $A^D_i$ are T-dual to each other. In the present article we prove that all above results can be interpreted as coordinate permutations in double space.

T-duality as coordinates permutation in double space

We introduce the $2D$ dimensional double space with the coordinates $Z^M= (x^μ, y_μ)$ which components are the coordinates of initial space $x^μ$ and its T-dual $y_μ$. We shall show that in this extended space the T-duality transformations can be realized simply by exchanging places of some coordinates $x^a$, along which we want to perform T-duality and the corresponding dual coordinates $y_a$. In such approach it is evident that T-duality leads to the physically equivalent theory and that complete set of T-duality transformations form subgroup of the $2D$ permutation group. So, in the double space we are able to represent the backgrounds of all T-dual theories in unified manner.

T-dualization in a curved background in absence of a global symmetry

We investigate T-duality of a closed string moving in a weakly curved background of the second order. A previously discussed weakly curved background consisted of a flat metric and a linearly coordinate dependent Kalb-Ramond field with an infinitesimal strength. The background here considered differs from the above in a coordinate dependent metric of the second order. Consequently, the corresponding Ricci tensor is nonzero. As this background does not posses the global shift symmetry the generalized Buscher T-dualization procedure is not applicable to it. We redefine it and make it applicable to backgrounds without the global symmetry.

T-duality in the weakly curved background

We consider the closed string propagating in the weakly curved background which consists of constant metric and Kalb-Ramond field with infinitesimally small coordinate dependent part. We propose the procedure for constructing the T-dual theory, performing T-duality transformations along coordinates on which the Kalb-Ramond field depends. The obtained theory is defined in the non-geometric double space, described by the Lagrange multiplier $y_μ$ and its $T$-dual $\tilde{y}_μ$. We apply the proposed T-duality procedure to the T-dual theory and obtain the initial one. We discuss the standard relations between T-dual theories that the equations of motion and momenta modes of one theory are the Bianchi identities and the winding modes of the other.

Nongeometric background arising in the solution of Neumann boundary conditions

We investigate the open string propagation in the weakly curved background with the Kalb-Ramond field containing an infinitesimal part, linear in coordinate. Solving the Neumann boundary conditions, we find the expression for the space-time coordinates in terms of the effective ones. So, the initial theory reduces to the effective one. This effective theory is defined on the nongeometric doubled space $(q^μ,\tilde{q}_μ)$, where $q^μ$ is the effective coordinate and $\tilde{q}_μ$ is its T-dual. The effective metric depends on the coordinate $q^μ$ and there exists non-trivial effective Kalb-Ramond field which depends on the T-dual coordinate $\tilde{q}_μ$. The fact that $\tilde{q}_μ$ is $Ω$-odd leads to the nonvanishing effective Kalb-Ramond field.

Noncommutativity in weakly curved background by canonical methods

Using canonical method we investigate $Dp-$brane world-volume noncommutativity in weakly curved background. The term weakly curved means that in the leading order, the source of non-flatness is infinitesimally small Kalb-Ramond field $B_{μν}$ linear in coordinate, while the Ricci tensor does not contribute being the infinitesimal of the second order. On the solution of boundary conditions, we find simple expression for the space-time coordinates in terms of the effective coordinates and momenta. This basic relation helped us to prove that noncommutativity appears only on the world-sheet boundary. The noncommutativity parameter has a standard form but with infinitesimally small and coordinate dependent antisymmetric tensor $B_{μν}$. This result coincides with that obtained on the group manifolds in the limit of the large level $n$ of current algebra. After quantization the algebra of functions on Dp-brane world-volume is represented with the Kontsevich star product instead of the Moyal one in the flat background.

T-dual-coordinate dependence makes the effective Kalb-Ramond field nontrivial

We show that the fact that the string theory is unoriented does not necessarily force the Kalb-Ramond field to vanish. We investigated the theory of the open string propagating in the weakly curved background. The effective Kalb-Ramond field $B^{eff}_{μν}$, the background field of the effective theory obtained on the solution of the boundary conditions, does not depend on the $Ω$-even effective coordinate $q$, but on its T-dual $\tilde{q}$ which is $Ω$-odd. This brakes the standard proof that the term with $B_{μν}^{eff}$ should vanish. From the world-sheet equations of motion we identify $B_{μν}^{eff}$ with the torsion potential.

The geometrical form for the string space-time action

In the present article, we derive the space-time action of the bosonic string in terms of geometrical quantities. First, we study the space-time geometry felt by probe bosonic string moving in antisymmetric and dilaton background fields. We show that the presence of the antisymmetric field leads to the space-time torsion, and the presence of the dilaton field leads to the space-time nonmetricity. Using these results we obtain the integration measure for space-time with stringy nonmetricity, requiring its preservation under parallel transport. We derive the Lagrangian depending on stringy curvature, torsion and nonmetricity.

On the Equivalence between 2D Induced Gravity and a WZNW system

A general method of constructing canonical gauge invariant actions is used to establish the equivalence between 2D induced gravity and a WZNW system, defined by a difference of two simple WZNW actions fo the SL(2,R) group. The diffeomorphism invariance of the induced gravity is generated by the SL(2,R) Kac-Moody structure of the WZNW system.

CHIRAL SYMMETRIES OF THE WZNW MODEL BY HAMILTONIAN METHODS

The connection between the Kac-Moody algebras of currents and the chiral symmetries of the two dimensional WZNW model is clarified. It is shown that only the zero modes of the Kac-Moody currents are the first class constraints, and that, consequently, the corresponding gauge symmetries are chiral.

W-Strings on Group Manifolds

We present a procedure for constructing actions describing propagation of W-strings on group manifolds by using the Hamiltonian canonical formalism and representations of W-algebras in terms of Kac-Moody currents. An explicit construction is given in the case of the $W_3$ string.
