One-Positron Quantum Cyclotron

A one-positron quantum cyclotron is realized with a single positron suspended indefinitely in the magnetic field of a Penning trap. This opens the possibility of quantum measurements of the positron magnetic moment at a precision much higher than attained with classical cyclotron motion. Comparing the magnetic moments measured using positron and electron quantum cyclotrons should provide the most stringent test of the fundamental CPT invariance of the Standard Model of particle physics in the lepton sector.

Undersaturation of quarks at early stages of relativistic nuclear collisions: the hot glue initial scenario and its observable signatures

The early stage of high multiplicity nuclear collisions is represented by a nearly quarkless, hot, deconfined pure gluon plasma. This new scenario should be characterized by a suppression of high $p_T$ photons and dileptons as well as by reduced baryon to meson ratios. We present the numerical results for central Pb+Pb collisions at the LHC energies by using the ideal Bjorken hydrodynamics with time-dependent quark fugacity. It is shown that about 25\% of final total entropy is generated during the hydrodynamic evolution of chemically undersaturated quark-gluon plasma.

Scaling and crossover phenomena in anomalous helium sequence

Anomalous temporal fluctuations of helium concentrations in spring emanations have been observed on a number of occasions prior to some major seismic events. Several recent studies have shown that a wide variety of natural systems display significant fluctuations that may be characterized by long-range power-law correlations. We have applied detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) to characterize preseismic helium anomalies and to probe the relationship between two classes of apparently irregular helium sequences. Application of the DFA technique reveals a crossover phenomenon that distinguishes short-range from long-range scaling exponents; the crossover corresponds to a transition from nonpersistent to persistent traits in the helium time series. Our findings imply a significant statistical correlation between anomalous helium concentration and a fluctuation exponent. This analytical approach appears to be a promising way for identifying anomalous helium fluctuations as signals precursory to an earthquake.

Effect of colour singletness of quark-gluon plasma in quark-hadron phase transition

Consequences of the constraint of SU(3) colour singletness of quark-gluon plasma are studied. This restriction increases the free energy barrier for the formation of hadronic bubble in supercooled phase and influences significantly the dynamics of the initial stage of quark-hadron phase transition. It also introduces terms dependent on the volume occupied by the plasma in the energy density and the pressure. These modifactions vanish in the limit of an infinite volume. The last stage of the hadronization of the QGP likely to be formed in relativistic heavy ion collisions is necessarily characterized by a decreasing volume containing the quark matter, and thus these corrections become important. The nucleation of plasma droplets at AGS energies is also seen to be strongly affected by the requirement of colour singletness, and the choice of prefactor.

Flavour Equilibration in Quark-Gluon Plasma

Within the framework of a dynamical and physically transparent model developed earlier, we study the time evolution of various quark flavours in the baryon-free region in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions. We show that even under optimistic conditions, the quark-gluon system fails to achieve chemical equilibrium.
