A cosmological viewpoint on the correspondence between deformed phase-space and canonical quantization

We employ the familiar canonical quantization procedure in a given cosmological setting to argue that it is equivalent to and results in the same physical picture if one considers the deformation of the phase-space instead. To show this we use a Probabilistic Evolutionary Process (PEP) to make the solutions of these different approaches comparable. Specific model theories are used to show that the independent solutions of the resulting Wheeler-DeWitt equation are equivalent to solutions of the deformation method with different signs for the deformation parameter. We also argued that since the Wheeler-DeWitt equation is a direct consequence of diffeomorphism invariance, this equivalence is only true provided that the deformation of phase-space does not break such an invariance.

Late time acceleration in a deformed phase space model of dilaton cosmology

The effects of noncommutativity on the phase space of a dilatonic cosmological model is investigated. The existence of such noncommutativity results in a deformed Poisson algebra between the minisuperspace variables and their momenta conjugate. For an exponential dilaton potential, the exact solutions in the commutative and noncommutative cases, are presented and compared. We use these solutions to address the late time acceleration issue of cosmic evolution.

Deformed phase space in a two dimensional minisuperspace model

We study the effects of noncommutativity and deformed Heisenberg algebra on the evolution of a two dimensional minisuperspace cosmological model in classical and quantum regimes. The phase space variables turn out to correspond to the scale factor of a flat FRW model with a positive cosmological constant and a dilatonic field with which the action of the model is augmented. The exact classical and quantum solutions in commutative and noncommutative cases are presented. We also obtain some approximate analytical solutions for the corresponding classical and quantum cosmology in the presence of the deformed Heisenberg relations between the phase space variables, in the limit where the minisuperspace variables are small. These results are compared with the standard commutative and noncommutative cases and similarities and differences of these solutions are discussed.

Thermodynamics of noncommutative de Sitter spacetime

We study the effects of noncommutativity of spacetime geometry on the thermodynamical properties of the de Sitter horizon. We show that noncommutativity results in modifications in temperature, entropy and vacuum energy and that these modifications are of order of the Planck scale, suggesting that the size of the noncommutative parameter should be close to that of the Planck. In an alternative way to deal with noncommutativity, we obtain a quantization rule for the entropy. Since noncommutativity in spacetime geometry modifies the Heisenberg algebra and introduces the general uncertainty principle, we also investigate the above problem in this framework.

Time reparameterization in Bianchi type I spinor cosmology

The problem of time reparameterization is addressed at both the classical and quantum levels in a Bianchi-I universe in which the matter source is a massive Dirac spinor field. We take the scale factors of the metric as the intrinsic time and their conjugate momenta as the extrinsic time. A scalar character of the spinor field is identified as a representation of the extrinsic time. The construction of the field equations and quantization of the model is achieved by solving the Hamiltonian constraint after time identification has been dealt with. This procedure leads to a true Hamiltonian whose exact solutions for the above choices of time are presented

On extra forces from large extra dimensions

The motion of a classical test particle moving on a 4-dimensional brane embedded in an $n$-dimensional bulk is studied in which the brane is allowed to fluctuate along the extra dimensions. It is shown that these fluctuations produce three different forces acting on the particle, all stemming from the effects of extra dimensions. Interpretations are then offered to describe the origin of these forces and a relationship between the 4 and $n$-dimensional mass of the particle is obtained by introducing charges associated with large extra dimensions.

Generalized uncertainty principle in Bianchi type I quantum cosmology

We study a quantum Bianchi type I model in which the dynamical variables of the corresponding minisuperspace obey the generalized Heisenberg algebra. Such a generalized uncertainty principle has its origin in the existence of a minimal length suggested by quantum gravity and sting theory. We present approximate analytical solutions to the corresponding Wheeler-DeWitt equation in the limit where the scale factor of the universe is small and compare the results with the standard commutative and noncommutative quantum cosmology. Similarities and differences of these solutions are also discussed.

Bianchi spacetimes in noncommutative phase-space

The effects of noncommutativity in the phase-space of the classical and quantum cosmology of Bianchi models are investigated. Exact solutions in both commutative and noncommutative cases are presented and compared. Further, the Noether symmetries of the Bianchi class A spacetimes are studied in both cases and similarities and differences are discussed.

Stabilization of test particles in Induced Matter Kaluza-Klein theory

The stability conditions for the motion of classical test particles in an $% n $-dimensional Induced Matter Kaluza-Klein theory is studied. We show that stabilization requires a variance of the strong energy condition for the induced matter to hold and that it is related to the hierarchy problem. Stabilization of test particles in a FRW universe is also discussed.

Compactification and signature transition in Kaluza-Klein spinor cosmology

We study the classical and quantum cosmology of a 4+1-dimensional space-time with a non-zero cosmological constant coupled to a self interacting massive spinor field. We consider a spatially flat Robertson-Walker universe with the usual scale factor $R(t)$ and an internal scale factor $a(t)$ associated with the extra dimension. For a free spinor field the resulting equations admit exact solutions, whereas for a self interacting spinor field one should resort to a numerical method for exhibiting their behavior. These solutions give rise to a degenerate metric and exhibit signature transition from a Euclidean to a Lorentzian domain. Such transitions suggest a compactification mechanism for the internal and external scale factors such that $a\sim R^{-1}$ in the Lorentzian region. The corresponding quantum cosmology and the ensuing Wheeler-DeWitt equation have exact solutions in the mini-superspace when the spinor field is free, leading to wavepackets undergoing signature change. The question of stabilization of the extra dimension is also discussed.

Bianchi-I classical and quantum spinor cosmology with signature change

We study the classical and quantum evolution of a universe in which the matter source is a massive Dirac spinor field and the universe is described by a Bianchi type I metric. We focus attention on those classical solutions that admit a degenerate metric in which the scale factors have smooth behavior in transition from a Euclidean to a Lorentzian domain and show that this transition happens when the cosmological constant, $Λ$, is negative. The resulting quantum cosmology and the corresponding Wheeler-DeWitt equation are also studied and closed form expressions for the wave functions of the universe is presented. We have shown that there is a close relationship between the quantum states and signature changing classical solutions, suggesting a mechanism for creation of a Lorentzian universe from a Euclidean region by a continuous change of signature. The quantum solutions also represent a quantization rule for the mass of the spinor field.

Classical and quantum spinor cosmology with signature change

We study the classical and quantum cosmology of a universe in which the matter source is a massive Dirac spinor field and consider cases where such fields are either free or self-interacting. We focus attention on the spatially flat Robertson-Walker cosmology and classify the solutions of the Einstein-Dirac system in the case of zero, negative and positive cosmological constant $Λ$. For $Λ<0$, these solutions exhibit signature transitions from a Euclidean to a Lorentzian domain. In the case of massless spinor fields it is found that signature changing solutions do not exist when the field is free while in the case of a self-interacting spinor field such solutions may exist. The resulting quantum cosmology and the corresponding Wheeler-DeWitt equation are also studied for both free and self interacting spinor fields and closed form expressions for the wavefunction of the universe are presented. These solutions suggest a quantization rule for the energy.

Spin 0 and spin 1/2 particles in a constant scalar-curvature background

We study the Klein-Gordon and Dirac equations in the presence of a background metric ds^2 = -dt^2 + dx^2 + e^{-2gx}(dy^2 + dz^2) in a semi-infinite lab (x>0). This metric has a constant scalar curvature R=6g^2 and is produced by a perfect fluid with equation of state p=-ρ/3. The eigenfunctions of spin-0 and spin-1/2 particles are obtained exactly, and the quantized energy eigenvalues are compared. It is shown that both of these particles must have nonzero transverse momentum in this background. We show that there is a minimum energy E^2_{min}=m^2c^4 + g^2c^2\hbar^2$ for bosons E_{KG} > E_{min}, while the fermions have no specific ground state E_{Dirac}>mc^2.
