Non-local gyrokinetic model of linear ion-temperature-gradient modes

A theory of non-local linear ion-temperature-gradient (ITG) drift modes while retaining non-adiabatic electrons is presented, extending the previous work [S. Moradi, et al {\em Phys. Plasmas} {\bf 18}, 062106 (2011)]. A dispersion relation is derived to quantify the effects of the fractional velocity operator in the Fokker-Planck equation modified by temperature gradients and non-adiabatic electrons on the real frequency and growth rate. Solving the dispersion relation, it is shown here that as the plasma becomes more turbulent, it deviates from a Maxwellian distribution and becomes Lévy distributed. The resulting Lévy distribution of the plasma may thus significantly alter the transport. The relative effect of the fractional derivative is larger on the real frequency than on the growth rate of the ITG mode.

A theory of non-local linear drift wave transport

Transport events in turbulent tokamak plasmas often exhibit non-local or non-diffusive action at a distance features that so far have eluded a conclusive theoretical description. In this paper a theory of non-local transport is investigated through a Fokker-Planck equation with fractional velocity derivatives. A dispersion relation for density gradient driven linear drift modes is derived including the effects of the fractional velocity derivative in the Fokker-Planck equation. It is found that a small deviation (a few percent) from the Maxwellian distribution function alters the dispersion relation such that the growth rates are substantially increased and thereby may cause enhanced levels of transport.

Contribution of a time-dependent metric on the dynamics of an interface between two immiscible electro-magnetically controllable Fluids

We consider the case of a deformable material interface between two immiscible moving media, both of them being magnetiable. The time dependence of the metric at the interface introduces a non linear term, proportional to the mean curvature, in the surface dynamical equations of mass momentum and angular momentum. We take into account the effects of that term also in the singular magnetic and electric fields inside the interface which lead to the existence of currents and charges densities through the interface, from the derivation of the Maxwell equations inside both bulks and the interface. Also, we give the expression for the entropy production and of the different thermo-dynamical fluxes. Our results enlarge previous results from other theories where the specific role of the time dependent surface metric was insufficiently stressed.

Noble internal transport barriers and radial subdiffusion of toroidal magnetic lines

Single trajectories of magnetic line motion indicate the persistence of a central protected plasma core, surrounded by a chaotic shell enclosed in a double-sided transport barrier : the latter is identified as being composed of two Cantori located on two successive "most-noble" numbers values of the perturbed safety factor, and forming an internal transport barrier (ITB). Magnetic lines which succeed to escape across this barrier begin to wander in a wide chaotic sea extending up to a very robust barrier (as long as L<1) which is identified mathematically as a robust KAM surface at the plasma edge. In this case the motion is shown to be intermittent, with long stages of pseudo-trapping in the chaotic shell, or of sticking around island remnants, as expected for a continuous time random walk.
