Model-independent extraction of form factors and $|V_{cb}|$ in $\overline{B} \rightarrow D \ell^- \overline{\nu}_\ell$ with hadronic tagging at BaBar

Using the entire BaBar $\Upsilon(4S)$ data set, the first two-dimensional unbinned angular analysis of the semileptonic decay $\overline{B} \rightarrow D \ell^- \overline{\nu}_\ell$ is performed, employing hadronic reconstruction of the tag-side $B$ meson from $\Upsilon(4S)\to B\overline{B}$. Here, $\ell$ denotes the light charged leptons $e$ and $\mu$. A novel data-driven signal-background separation procedure with minimal dependence on simulation is developed. This procedure preserves all multi-dimensional correlations present in the data. The expected $\sin^2\theta_\ell$ dependence of the differential decay rate in the Standard Model is demonstrated, where $\theta_\ell$ is the lepton helicity angle. Including input from the latest lattice QCD calculations and previously available experimental data, the underlying form factors are extracted using both model-independent (BGL) and dependent (CLN) methods. Comparisons with lattice calculations show flavor SU(3) symmetry to be a good approximation in the $B_{(s)}\to D_{(s)}$ sector. Using the BGL results, the CKM matrix element $|V_{cb}|=(41.09\pm 1.16)\times 10^{-3}$ and the Standard Model prediction of the lepton-flavor universality violation variable $\mathcal{R}(D)=0.300\pm 0.004$, are extracted. The value of $|V_{cb}|$ from $\overline{B} \rightarrow D \ell^- \overline{\nu}_\ell$ tends to be higher than that extracted using $\overline{B} \rightarrow D \ell^- \overline{\nu}_\ell$. The Standard Model $\mathcal{R}(D)$ calculation is at a $1.97\sigma$ tension with the latest HFLAV experimental average.

Study of the reactions $e^+e^-\to K^+K^-\pi^0\pi^0\pi^0$, $e^+e^-\to K^{0}_{S}K^{\pm}\pi^{\mp}\pi^0\pi^0$, and $e^+e^-\to K^{0}_{S}K^{\pm}\pi^{\mp}\pi^+\pi^-$ at center-of-mass energies from threshold to 4.5 GeV using ISR

We study the processes $e^+e^-\to K^+K^-\pi^0\pi^0\pi^0\gamma$, $K^{0}_{S}K^{\pm}\pi^{\mp}\pi^0\pi^0\gamma$, and $K^{0}_{S}K^{\pm}\pi^{\mp}\pi^+\pi^-\gamma$ in which an energetic photon is radiated from the initial state. The data were collected with the \babar~ detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. About 1200, 2600, and 6000 events, respectively, are selected from a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 469\invfb. The invariant mass of the hadronic final state defines the effective \epem center-of-mass energy. The center-of-mass energies range from threshold to 4.5\gev. From the mass spectra, the first ever measurements of the $e^+e^-\to K^+K^-\pi^0\pi^0\pi^0$, $e^+e^-\to K^0_SK^{\pm}\pi^{\mp}\pi^0\pi^0$, and $e^+e^-\to K^0_SK^{\pm}\pi^{\mp}\pi^+\pi^-$ cross sections are performed. The contributions from the intermediate states that include $\eta$, $\phi$, $\rho$, $K^*(892)$, and other resonances are presented. We observe the $J/\psi$ and $\psi(2S)$ in most of these final states and measure the corresponding branching fractions, many of them for the first time.

Study of the reactions $e^+e^-\to\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0\pi^0\pi^0\pi^0$ and $\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0\pi^0\pi^0\eta$ at center-of-mass energies from threshold to 4.5 GeV using initial-state radiation

We study the processes $e^+e^-\to\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0\pi^0\pi^0\pi^0\gamma$ and $e^+e^-\to\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0\pi^0\pi^0\eta\gamma$ in which an energetic photon is radiated from the initial state. The data were collected with the BaBar detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. About 7300 and 870 events, respectively, are selected from a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 469~$fb^{-1}$. The invariant mass of the hadronic final state defines the effective $e^+e^-$ center-of-mass energy. The center-of-mass energies range from threshold to 4.5~GeV. From the mass spectra, the first ever measurements of the $e^+e^-\to\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0\pi^0\pi^0\pi^0$ and the $e^+e^-\to\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0\pi^0\pi^0\eta$ cross sections are performed. The contributions from $\omega\pi^0\pi^0\pi^0$, $\eta\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0$, $\omega\eta$, and other intermediate states are presented. We observe the $J/\psi$ and $\psi(2S)$ in most of these final states and measure the corresponding branching fractions, many of them for the first time.

Search for lepton-flavor violating decays $D^{0}\rightarrow X^{0}e^{\pm}\mu^{\mp}$

We present a search for seven lepton-flavor-violating neutral charm decays of the type $D^{0}\rightarrow X^{0} e^{\pm} \mu^{\mp}$, where $X^{0}$ represents a $\pi^{0}$, $K^{0}_{\rm S}$, $\bar{K^{*0}}$, $\rho^{0}$, $\phi$, $\omega$, or $\eta$ meson. The analysis is based on $468$ fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at or close to the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the BaBar detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. No significant signals are observed, and we establish 90\% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions in the range $(5.0 - 22.5)\times 10^{-7}$. The limits are between one and two orders of magnitude more stringent than previous measurements.

Observation of the decay $D^0\rightarrow K^-\pi^+e^+e^-$

We report the observation of the rare charm decay $D^0\rightarrow K^-\pi^+e^+e^-$, based on $468$ fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at or close to the center-of-mass energy of the $Y(4S)$ resonance with the BaBar detector at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. We find the branching fraction in the invariant mass range $0.675< m(e^+e^-) < 0.875 GeV/c^2$ of the electron-positron pair to be ${\cal B}(D^0\rightarrow K^-\pi^+e^+e^-) = (4.0\pm0.5\pm0.2\pm0.1) \times 10^{-6}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic, and the third due to the uncertainty in the branching fraction of the decay $D^0\rightarrow K^-\pi^+\pi^+\pi^-$ used as a normalization mode. The significance of the observation corresponds to 9.7 standard deviations including systematic uncertainties. This result is consistent with the recently reported $D^0\rightarrow K^-\pi^+\mu^+\mu^-$ branching fraction, measured in the same invariant mass range, and with the value expected in the Standard Model. In a set of regions of $m(e^+e^-)$ where long-distance effects are potentially small, we determine a 90% confidence level upper limit on the branching fraction ${\cal B}(D^0\rightarrow K^-\pi^+e^+e^-) < 3.1 \times 10^{-6}$.

Search for direct CP-violation in singly-Cabibbo suppressed D+- --> K+ K- pi+- decays

We report on a search for direct CP asymmetry in the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay D+- --> K+ K- pi+- using a data sample of 476 fb-1 accumulated with the BaBar detector running at and just below the Y(4S) resonance. The CP-violating decay rate asymmetry A_CP is determined to be (0.35 +- 0.30 +- 0.15)%. Model-dependent and model-independent Dalitz plot analysis techniques are used to search for CP-violating asymmetries in the various intermediate states.

Limits on tau Lepton-Flavor Violating Decays in three charged leptons

A search for the neutrinoless, lepton-flavor violating decay of the tau lepton into three charged leptons has been performed using an integrated luminosity of 468 fb^-1 collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider. In all six decay modes considered, the numbers of events found in data are compatible with the background expectations. Upper limits on the branching fractions are set in the range (1.8-3.3) X 10^-8 at 90% confidence level.

Measurements of e+e- -> K+K-eta, K+K-pi0 and KsK+pi- Cross Sections Using Initial State Radiation Events

This paper reports measurements of processes: e+e- -> gamma KsK+pi-, e+e- -> gamma K+K-pi0, e+e- -> gamma phi eta, and e+e- -> gamma phi pi0. The initial state radiated photon allows to cover the hadronic final state in the energy range from thresholds up to ~4.6 GeV. The overall size of the data sample analyzed is 232 fb-1, collected by the BaBar detector running at the PEP-II e+e- storage ring. From the Dalitz plot analysis of the KsK+pi- final state, moduli and relative phase of the isoscalar and the isovector components of the e+e- -> K K*(892) cross section are determined. Parameters of phi and rho recurrences are also measured, using a global fitting procedure which exploits the interconnection among amplitudes, moduli and phases of the e+e- -> KsK+pi-, K+K-pi0, phi eta final states. The cross section for the OZI-forbidden process e+e- -> phi pi0, and the J/psi branching fractions to KK*(892) and K+K-eta are also measured.

Improved Measurement of Time-Dependent CP Asymmetries and the CP-Odd Fraction in the Decay B0->D*+D*-

We present an updated measurement of the CP-odd fraction and the time-dependent CP asymmetries in the decay B0->D*+D*-using (383 +/- 4) \times 10^{6} BB pairs collected with the Babar detector. We determine the CP-odd fraction to be $0.143\pm0.034\stat\pm0.008\syst$. The time-dependent CP asymmetry parameters are determined to be $C_+ = -0.05\pm 0.14\stat \pm 0.02\syst$ and $S_+ = -0.72 \pm 0.19\stat \pm 0.05\syst$. The non-zero value of the measured $S_+$ indicates the evidence of CP violation at the $3.7 σ$ confidence level.

CP-violation in $b \to s$ Penguin Decays at BaBar

We present the new and updated $BABAR$ measurements of CP-violation studies for many $b\to s $ penguin decay modes. We report the first observation of mixing-induced CP-violation in $B^0 \to η^{'} K^0$ with a significance (including systematic uncertainties) of 5.5$σ$. We also present the first observation of the decay $B^0 \to ρ^0 K^0$. Using the time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis of $B^0\to K^+K^- K^0$ decay, the CP-parameters $\mathcal A_{CP}$ and $β_{eff}$ are measured with $4.8σ$ significance, and we reject the solution near $π/2 - β_{eff}$ at $4.5σ$. We also present the updated measurements of CP-violating parameters for $B^0 \to K_S^0 π^0$, $K_S^0K_S^0K_S^0$ and $π^0 π^0 K_S^0$ decays. An updated measurements of the CP-violating charge asymmetries for $B^{\pm}\to η^{'} K^{\pm}$, $ηK^{\pm}$, $ωK^{\pm}$ decays are also presented. The measurements are based on the data sample recorded at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with $BABAR$ detector at the PEP-II $B$-meson Factory at SLAC.

Measurement of CP-Violating Asymmetries in B0->D(*)+D-

We present updated measurements of \CP-violating asymmetries in the decays $\Bz\to\Dstarpm\Dmp$ and $\Bz\to\Dp\Dm$ using $(383\pm 4) \times 10^{6} \BB$ pairs collected by the \babar detector at the PEP-II $B$ factory. We determine the time-integrated \CP asymmetry ${\mathcal{A}}_{\Dstarpm\Dmp}=0.12\pm 0.06\pm 0.02$, and the time-dependent asymmetry parameters to be $C_{\Dstarp\Dm} =0.18\pm 0.15\pm 0.04$, $S_{\Dstarp\Dm}=-0.79\pm 0.21\pm 0.06$, $C_{\Dstarm\Dp} =0.23\pm 0.15\pm 0.04$, $S_{\Dstarm\Dp} =-0.44\pm 0.22\pm 0.06$, $C_{\Dp\Dm} =0.11\pm 0.22\pm 0.07$, and $S_{\Dp\Dm} =-0.54\pm 0.34\pm 0.06$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Observation of $B^+\toρ^+K^0$ and Measurement of its Branching Fraction and Charge Asymmetry

We present the first observation of the decay $B^+\toρ^+K^0$, using a data sample of 348 fb$^{-1}$ collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the \babar detector.The branching fraction and charge asymmetry are measured to be $(8.0^{+1.4}_{-1.3}\pm0.6)\times10^{-6}$ and ($-12.2\pm16.6\pm2.0)%$, respectively, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The significance of the observed branching fraction, including systematic uncertainties, is 7.9 standard deviations.

Measurements of the Branching Fraction and Time-Dependent CP Asymmetries of B0 to J/Psi Pi0 decays

We present measurements of the branching fraction and time-dependent CP asymmetries in B0 -> JPsi pi0 decays based on (231.8 +/- 2.6) x 10**6 asymmetries Y(4S) -> BBbar decays collected with the BaBar detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory. We obtain a branching fraction B(B0 -> JPsi pi0) = (1.94 +/- 0.22 (stat.) +/- 0.17 (syst.)) x 10**-5. We also measure the CP asymmetry parameters C = -0.21 +/- 0.26 (stat.) +/- 0.06 (syst.) and S = -0.68 +/- 0.30 (stat.) +/- 0.04 (syst.).

Measurement of Time-Dependent CP Asymmetries and the CP-Odd Fraction in the Decay B0->D*+D*-

We present an updated measurement of time-dependent \CP asymmetries and the \CP-odd fraction in the decay $B^0 \to D^{*+}D^{*-}$ using $232 \times 10^{6} \BB$ pairs collected by the \babar detector at the PEP-II $B$ factory. We determine the \CP-odd fraction to be $0.125 \pm 0.044\stat \pm 0.007\syst$. The time-dependent \CP asymmetry parameters $C_+$ and $S_+$ are determined to be $0.06\pm 0.17\stat \pm 0.03\syst$ and $-0.75 \pm 0.25\stat \pm 0.03\syst$, respectively. The Standard Model predicts these parameters to be 0 and $-\stwob$, respectively, in the absence of penguin amplitude contributions.

Observation of B0 Meson decays to a1(1260) pi

We present preliminary measurements of the B meson decay B0 -> a1(1260)+ pi-, with a1(1260)+ --> pi+ pi+ pi-. The data were recorded with the BABAR detector at PEP II and correspond to 218 million BBbar pairs produced in e+e- annihilation through the Upsilon(4S) resonance. We find the branching fractions B(B0 -> a1(1260)+ pi-) = (40.2 +/- 3.9 +/- 3.9) x 10^-6. The fitted values of the a1(1260) parameters are m_a1 = 1.22 +/- 0.02 GeV/c^2 and Gamma_a1= 423 +/- 50 MeV/c^2

Evidence for B+ -> K0barK+ and B0 -> K0K0bar, and Measurement of the Branching Fraction and Search for Direct CP Violation in B+ -> K0pi+

We present evidence for the b -> d penguin-dominated decays B+ -> K0barK+ and B0 -> K0K0bar with significances of 3.5 and 4.5 standard deviations, respectively. The results are based on a sample of 227 million Y(4S) -> BBbar decays collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at SLAC. We measure the branching fractions Br(B+ -> K0barK+) = (1.5 +- 0.5 +- 0.1) x 10^{-6} (< 2.4 x 10^{-6}) and Br(B0 -> K0K0bar) = (1.19^{+0.40}_{-0.35} +- 0.13) x 10^{-6}, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, and the upper limit on the branching fraction for K0barK+ is at the 90% confidence level. We also present improved measurements of the charge-averaged branching fraction Br(B+ -> K0pi+) = (26.0 +- 1.3 +- 1.0) x 10^{-6} and CP-violating charge asymmetry A_CP(K0pi+) = -0.09 +- 0.05 +- 0.01, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

Results from the BaBar Fully Inclusive Measurement of $B\to X_sγ$

We present preliminary results from a lepton-tagged fully-inclusive measurement of $B \to X_{s}γ$ decays, where $X_{s}$ is any strange hadronic state. Results are based on a BaBar data set of 88.5 million $B\bar{B}$ pairs at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance. We present a reconstructed photon energy spectrum in the $Υ(4S)$ frame, and partial branching fractions above minimum reconstructed photon energies of 1.9, 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 GeV. We then convert these to measurements of partial branching fractions and truncated first and second moments of the true photon energy distribution in the B rest frame, above the same minimum photon energy values. The full correlation matrices between the first and second moments are included to allow fitting to any parameterized theoretical calculation. We also measure the direct CP asymmetry $A_{cp}(B \to X_{s+d}γ)$ (based on the charge of the tagging lepton) above a reconstructed photon energy of 2.2 GeV

Search for Lepton-Flavor and Lepton-Number Violation in the Decay tau->lhh

A search for lepton-flavor and lepton-number violation in the decay of the tau lepton into one charged lepton and two charged hadrons is performed using 221.4 $\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of data collected at an $e^+e^-$ center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II storage ring. In all 14 decay modes considered, the observed data are compatible with background expectations, and upper limits are set in the range ${\cal B}(τ\to\ell hh')<(0.7-4.8)\times 10^{-7}$ at 90% confidence level.
