Economic resources, sporting efficiency and uncertainty: a stochastic optimization model of football performance in Africa

We propose a stochastic optimization framework in which football performance is modeled as the result of an efficiency-driven production process under uncertainty. The model incorporates economic inputs, a latent efficiency variable evolving according to a stochastic differential equation, and a control variable representing investment in sports development. We derive the associated discounted Hamilton--Jacobi--Bellman (HJB) equation, characterize the optimal investment policy, prove a verification theorem under explicit growth conditions, and show that a bounded investment budget is required for the control problem to be well posed. We relate our efficiency measure to the stochastic frontier and data envelopment analysis (SFA/DEA) traditions used elsewhere in sports economics, and clarify what a dynamic control formulation adds relative to those static approaches. The theoretical results are illustrated with a numerical solution of the HJB equation -- validated by a grid-refinement convergence study -- and Monte Carlo simulations. A cross-sectional analysis of the 24 AFCON 2025 national teams, based on GDP, population, and FIFA ranking data, estimates country-specific conditional log-efficiency residuals using heteroskedasticity-robust inference. We show that these residuals are mechanically and strongly correlated with FIFA points by construction, quantify this dependence, and interpret the results accordingly. Teams such as Senegal and Morocco consistently outperform their GDP-implied potential, whereas others, including South Africa and Tanzania, tend to underperform. While these patterns are broadly consistent with observed AFCON outcomes, the estimated residual also captures unobserved factors, such as institutional quality, diaspora talent, and demographic structure, that are not included in the model.

A convex numerical scheme for the Evans-Gangbo transport-density system, in one, two, and three dimensions

We give a constructive numerical treatment of Monge's optimal transport problem in 1D, 2D, 3D, following Evans-Gangbo: the map is built from a Kantorovich potential $u$ and density $a$ solving $-\mathrm{div}(a\nabla u) = f^+-f^-$, via $\dot T = -a\nabla u(T)/[(1-t)f^+(T)+tf^-(T)]$, $T(0,x)=x$. In 1D this gives a closed form. In 2D--left unfinished in an earlier report--we obtain $(u,a)$ via a convex Beckmann flow problem (second-order-cone programming), cross-checked against a dual LP, then build the map by direct integration or a ray-based 1D "clock" ODE with explicit density per ray. Validation uses strong duality, mass conservation, and vanishing-regularization limits, on a translation-invariant case and two 2D examples (a radial cone, a checkerboard) checked by symmetry; both show boundary-concentrated mass and non-unique flux where supports touch. We extend to 3D (theory unchanged), matching the 2D answer to six digits and reproducing the same phenomena on a radial ball, exposing a limit of the 2D visualization style. Movies illustrating the transport maps are available as ancillary files on the arXiv page of this submission.

Logistic growth model and modeling of factors for community case transmission

In this article, we analyze the spread of cases resulting from community transmission of COVID-19 in Senegal in order to identify statistical associations. The identification and knowledge of the factors associated with this community transmission can be a decision support tool to limit the spread of the disease. We estimate parameters and evaluate the growth factor, community rate, weekly increase and daily difference, and make forecasting to help on how to find concrete actions to control the situation.

Visualization and machine learning for forecasting of COVID-19 in Senegal

In this article, we give visualization and different machine learning technics for two weeks and 40 days ahead forecast based on public data. On July 15, 2020, Senegal reopened its airspace doors, while the number of confirmed cases is still increasing. The population no longer respects hygiene measures, social distancing as at the beginning of the contamination. Negligence or tiredness to always wear the masks? We make forecasting on the inflection point and possible ending time.

Impact of contamination factors on the COVID-19 evolution in Senegal

In this article, we perform an analysis of COVID-19 on one of the South Saharan countries (hot zone), the Senegal (West Africa). Many questions remain unanswered: why the African continent is not very contaminated compared to other continents. Factors of cross immunity, temperature, population density, youth, etc. are taken into account for an analysis of the contamination factors. Numerical simulations are carried out for a prediction over the coming week.

Comparative prediction of confirmed cases with COVID-19 pandemic by machine learning, deterministic and stochastic SIR models

In this paper, we propose a machine learning technics and SIR models (deterministic and stochastic cases) with numerical approximations to predict the number of cases infected with the COVID-19, for both in few days and the following three weeks. Like in [1] and based on the public data from [2], we estimate parameters and make predictions to help on how to find concrete actions to control the situation. Under optimistic estimation, the pandemic in some countries will end soon, while for most of the countries in the world, the hit of anti-pandemic will be no later than the beginning of May.

Analysis of the COVID-19 pandemic by SIR model and machine learning technics for forecasting

This work is a trial in which we propose SIR model and machine learning tools to analyze the coronavirus pandemic in the real world. Based on the public data from \cite{datahub}, we estimate main key pandemic parameters and make predictions on the inflection point and possible ending time for the real world and specifically for Senegal. The coronavirus disease 2019, by World Health Organization, rapidly spread out in the whole China and then in the whole world. Under optimistic estimation, the pandemic in some countries will end soon, while for most part of countries in the world (US, Italy, etc.), the hit of anti-pandemic will be no later than the end of April.
