Dineutron correlations and BCS-BEC crossover in nuclear matter with the Gogny pairing force

The dineutron correlations and the crossover from superfluidity of neutron Cooper pairs in the $^1S_0$ pairing channel to Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of dineutron pairs in both symmetric and neutron matter are studied within the relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory, with the effective interaction PK1 of the relativistic mean-field approach in the particle-hole channel and the finite-range Gogny force in the particle-particle channel. The influence of the pairing strength on the behaviors of dineutron correlations is investigated. It is found that the neutron pairing gaps at the Fermi surface from three adopted Gogny interactions are smaller at low densities than the one from the bare nucleon-nucleon interaction Bonn-B potential. From the normal (anomalous) density distribution functions and the density correlation function, it is confirmed that a true dineutron BEC state does not appear in nuclear matter. In the cases of the Gogny interactions, the most BEC-like state may appear when the neutron Fermi momentum $k_{Fn}\thicksim0.3 \rm{fm^{-1}}$. Moreover, based on the newly developed criterion for several characteristic quantities within the relativistic framework, the BCS-BEC crossover is supposed to realize in a revised density region with $k_{Fn}\in[0.15,0.63] \rm{fm^{-1}}$ in nuclear matter.

Descriptions of Carbon isotopes within relativistic Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory

Within the relativistic Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (RHFB) theory, the structure properties of Carbon isotopes are systematically studied. In order to reproduce the experiment data, we take the finite-range Gogny D1S with a strength factor $f$ as the pairing force. The self-consistent RHFB calculations with density-dependent meson-nucleon couplings indicate the single-neutron halo structures in both $^{17}$C and $^{19}$C, whereas the two-neutron halo in $^{22}$C is not well supported. It is also found that close to the neutron drip line there exists distinct odd-even staggering on neutron radii, which is tightly related with the blocking effects and correspondingly the blocking effect plays a significant role in halo formation.

Odd-even staggerings on nuclear binding energy described by the covariant density functional theory

The odd-even staggerings (OES) on nuclear binding energies are studied systematically within the covariant density functional (CDF) theories, specifically the relativistic Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (RHFB) and the relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (RHB) theories. Taking the finite-range Gogny force D1S as an effective pairing interaction, both CDF models can provide appropriate descriptions on the OESs of nuclear binding energies for C, O, Ca, Ni, Zr, Sn, Ce, Gd and Pb isotopes as well as for N=50 and 82 isotones. However, due to the inconsistence between the non-relativistic pairing interaction and the relativistic effective Lagrangians, there exist some systematical discrepancies from the data, i.e., the underestimated OESs in light C and O isotopes and the overestimated ones in heavy region, respectively. Such discrepancies can be eliminated partially by introducing a $Z$- or $N$-dependent strength factor into the pairing force Gogny D1S. In addition, successful descriptions of the occupation numbers of Sn isotopes are achieved with the optimized Gogny pairing force. Furthermore, the analysis of the systematics of both pairing effects and nuclear binding energy indicate the requirement of an unified relativistic mechanism in both p-p and p-h channels to improve the quantitative precision of the theory.

BCS-BEC crossover in nuclear matter with the relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory

Based on the relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory, the influence of the pairing interaction strength on the di-neutron correlations and the crossover from superfluidity of neutron Cooper pairs in the $^{1}S_{0}$ channel to Bose-Einstein condensation of di-neutron pairs is systematically investigated in the nuclear matter. The bare nucleon-nucleon interaction Bonn-B is taken in the particle-particle channel with an effective factor to simulate the medium effects and take into account the possible ambiguity of pairing force, and the effective interaction PK1 is used in the particle-hole channel. If the effective factor is larger than 1.10, a di-neutron BEC state appears in the low-density limit, and if it is smaller than 0.85, the neutron Cooper pairs are found totally in the weak coupling BCS region. The reference values of several characteristic quantities which characterize the BCS-BEC crossover are obtained respectively from the dimensionless parameter $1/(k_{\rm Fn}a)$ with $a$ the scattering length and $k_{\rm{Fn}}$ the neutron Fermi momentum, the zero-momentum transfer density correlation function D(0) and the effective chemical potential $ν_{\rm n}$.

Relativistic description of BCS-BEC crossover in nuclear matter

We study theoretically the di-neutron spatial correlations and the crossover from superfluidity of neutron Cooper pairs in the $^1S_0$ pairing channel to Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) of di-neutron pairs for both symmetric and neutron matter in the microscopic relativistic pairing theory. We take the bare nucleon-nucleon interaction Bonn-B in the particle-particle channel and the effective interaction PK1 of the relativistic mean-field approach in the particle-hole channel. It is found that the spatial structure of neutron Cooper pair wave function evolves continuously from BCS-type to BEC-type as density decreases. We see a strong concentration of the probability density revealed for the neutron pairs in the fairly small relative distance around $1.5 {\rm fm}$ and the neutron Fermi momentum $k_{Fn}\in[0.6,1.0] {\rm fm^{-1}}$. However, from the effective chemical potential and the quasiparticle excitation spectrum, there is no evidence for the appearance of a true BEC state of neutron pairs at any density. The most BEC-like state may appear at $k_{Fn}\thicksim0.2 {\rm fm^{-1}}$ by examining the density correlation function. From the coherence length and the probability distribution of neutron Cooper pairs as well as the ratio between the neutron pairing gap and the kinetic energy at the Fermi surface, some features of the BCS-BEC crossover are seen in the density regions, $0.05 {\rm fm^{-1}}<k_{Fn}<0.7 (0.75) {\rm fm^{-1}}$, for the symmetric nuclear (pure neutron) matter.

Neutron star properties in density-dependent relativistic Hartree-Fock theory

With the equations of state provided by the newly developed density dependent relativistic Hartree-Fock (DDRHF) theory for hadronic matter, the properties of the static and $β$-equilibrium neutron stars without hyperons are studied for the first time, and compared to the predictions of the relativistic mean field (RMF) models and recent observational data. The influences of Fock terms on properties of asymmetric nuclear matter at high densities are discussed in details. Because of the significant contributions from the $σ$- and $ω$-exchange terms to the symmetry energy, large proton fractions in neutron stars are predicted by the DDRHF calculations, which strongly affect the cooling process of the star. The critical mass about 1.45 $M_\odot$, close to the limit 1.5 $M_\odot$ determined by the modern soft X-ray data analysis, is obtained by DDRHF with the effective interactions PKO2 and PKO3 for the occurrence of direct Urca process in neutron stars. The maximum masses of neutron stars given by the DDRHF calculations lie between 2.45 M$_\odot$ and 2.49 M$_\odot$, which are in reasonable agreement with high pulsar mass $2.08 \pm 0.19 M_\odot$ from PSR B1516+02B. It is also found that the mass-radius relations of neutron stars determined by DDRHF are consistent with the observational data from thermal radiation measurement in the isolated neutron star RX J1856, QPOs frequency limits in LMXBs 4U 0614+09 and 4U 1636-536, and redshift determined in LMXBs EXO 0748-676.

Neutron Stars in the Relativistic Hartree-Fock Theory and Hadron-Quark Phase Transition

Based on the density-dependent relativistic Hartree-Fock theory (DDRHF) for hadronic matter, the properties of neutron stars have been studied and compared with the results from the density-dependent relativistic mean field theory (DDRMF). Though similar equations of state are obtained, DDRHF calculations give larger fractions of proton, electron and muon at high baryon density for neutron star matter than the ones from DDRMF. The maximum masses of neutron stars lie between 2.3 M$_\odot$ and 2.5 M$_\odot$, and the corresponding radii between 11.7 km and 12.5 km. In addition, the phase transition from hadronic matter to quark matter in neutron stars is studied by using the MIT bag model for the quark phase. The transition is studied in both Gibbs and Maxwell constructions.

Pairing Properties of Symmetric Nuclear Matter in Relativistic Mean Field Theory

The properties of pairing correlations in symmetric nuclear matter are studied in the relativistic mean field (RMF) theory with the effective interaction PK1. Considering well-known problem that the pairing gap at Fermi surface calculated with RMF effective interactions are three times larger than that with Gogny force, an effective factor in the particle-particle channel is introduced. For the RMF calculation with PK1, an effective factor 0.76 give a maximum pairing gap 3.2 MeV at Fermi momentum 0.9 fm$^{-1}$, which are consistent with the result with Gogny force.
