Study of nuclear giant resonances using a Fermi-liquid method

The nuclear giant resonances are studied by using a Fermi-liquid method, and the nuclear collective excitation energies of different values of $l$ are obtained, which are fitted with the centroid energies of the giant resonances of spherical nuclei, respectively. In addition, the relation between the isovector giant resonance and the corresponding isoscalar giant resonance is discussed.

rho-rho-N and rho-rho-Delta molecules with $J^P=5/2^{+}$ and $J^P=7/2^{+}$

The rho-rho-N and rho-rho-Delta three-body systems have been studied within the framework of the fixed center approximation of Faddeev equation. The rho-rho interaction in isospin I=0, spin S=2 is strongly attractive, and so are the N-rho, Delta-rho interactions. This leads to bound states of both rho-rho-N and rho-rho-Delta. We find peaks of the modulus squared of the scattering matrix around 2227 MeV for rho-rho-N, and 2372 MeV for rho-rho-Delta. Yet, the strength of the peak for the rho-rho-N amplitude is much smaller than for rho-rho-Delta, weakening the case for a rho-rho-N bound state, or a dominant rho-rho-N component. A discussion is made on how these states can be searched for in present programs looking for multimeson final states in different reactions.

Systematic Study of Survival Probability of Excited Superheavy Nuclei

The stability of excited superheavy nuclei (SHN) with $100 \leq Z \leq 134$ against neutron emission and fission is investigated by using a statistical model. In particular, a systematic study of the survival probability against fission in the 1n-channel of these SHN is made. In present calculations the neutron separation energies and shell correction energies are consistently taken from the calculated results of the finite range droplet model which predicts an island of stability of SHN around Z=115 and N=179. It turns out that this island of stability persists for excited SHN in the sense that the calculated survival probabilities in the 1n-channel of excited SHN at the optimal excitation energy are maximized around Z=115 and N=179. This indicates that the survival probability in the 1n-channel is mainly determined by the nuclear shell effects.

Radiative decay into gamma-baryon of dynamically generated resonances from the vector-baryon interaction

We study the radiative decay into $γ$ and a baryon of the SU(3) octet and decuplet of nine and ten resonances that are dynamically generated from the interaction of vector mesons with baryons of the octet and the decuplet respectively. We obtain quite different partial decay widths for the various resonances, and for different charge states of the same resonance, suggesting that the experimental investigation of these radiative decays should bring much information on the nature of these resonances. For the case of baryons of the octet we determine the helicity amplitudes and compare them with experimental data when available.

Nuclear collective excitations in Landau Fermi liquid theory

The nuclear collective excitations are studied within Landau Fermi liquid theory. By using the nucleon-nucleon interaction of the linear sigma-omega model, the nuclear collective excitation energies of different values of $l$ are obtained, which are fitted with the centroid energies of the giant resonances of spherical nuclei, respectively. In addition, it is pointed out that the isovector giant resonances except l=1 correspond to the modes that protons are in the creation state and neutrons are in the annihilation state, and vice versa. Some mixtures of the nuclear collective excitation states with different values of l are predicted.

Dynamically generated resonances from the vector octet-baryon decuplet interaction

We study the interaction of the octet of vector mesons with the decuplet of baryons using Lagrangians of the hidden gauge theory for vector interactions. The unitary amplitudes in coupled channels develop poles that can be associated with some known baryonic resonances, while there are predictions for new ones at the energy frontier of the experimental research. The work offers guidelines on how to search for these resonances.

We study the radiative decay into $γ$ and a baryon of the SU(3) decuplet of ten resonances that are dynamically generated from the interaction of vector mesons with baryons of the decuplet. We obtain quite different partial decay widths for the various resonances, and for different charge states of the same resonance, suggesting that the experimental investigation of these radiative decays should bring much information on the nature of these resonances.

In-medium properties of kaons in a chiral approach

The first order self-energy corrections of the kaon in the symmetric nuclear matter are calculated from kaon-nucleon scattering matrix elements using a chiral Lagrangian within the framework of relativistic mean field approximation. It shows that the effective mass and the potential of K^+ meson are identical with those of K^- meson in the nuclear matter, respectively. The effective mass of the kaon in the nuclear matter decreases with the nuclear density increasing, and is not relevant to the kaon-nucleon Sigma term. The kaon-nucleus potential is positive and increases with the nuclear density. Moreover, the influence of the resonance $Λ(1405)$ on the $K^-$-nucleus potential due to the re-scattering term is discussed. Our results indicate the K^- meson could not be bound in the nuclei even if the contribution of $Λ(1405)$ resonance is considered.

The equation of state for the nuclear matter and the properties of the neutron star

The equation of state for the beta stable nuclear matter is calculated numerically, and then the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkov equation for the structure of the neutron star is solved in the fourth-order Runge-Kutta algorithm. It shows the mass and radius of the neutron star are functions of the central density of the neutron star and a maximum mass of 1.932 solar masses with a corresponding radius of 9.340km is obtained. Considering the equation of state of the nuclear matter must obey the causality, a new factor c is added in the nuclear potential energy formula. Therefore, with a new equation of state for the beta stable nuclear matter when c=0.15, a new maximum mass of 1.440 solar masses with a radius of 9.765km for the neutron star is obtained. Finally, the contribution of the cosmological constant to the structure of the neutron star is discussed, and we find the cosmological constant has minimal or negligible influence on the properties of the neutron star.

An effective formulation on quantum hadrodynamics at finite temperatures and densities

According to Wick's theorem, the second order self-energy corrections of hadrons in the hot and dense nuclear matter are calculated. Furthermore, the Feynman rules are summarized, and an effective formulation on quantum hadrodynamics at finite temperatures and densities is evaluated. As the strong couplings between nucleons are considered, the self-consistency of this method is discussed in the framework of relativistic mean-field approximation. Debye screening masses of the scalar and vector mesons in the hot and dense nuclear matter are calculated with this method in the relativistic mean-field approximation. The results are different from those of thermofield dynamics and Brown-Rho conjecture. Moreover, the effective masses of the photon and the nucleon in the hot and dense nuclear matter are discussed.

Sum rules on quantum hadrodynamics

The development on relativistic nuclear many-body theories is reviewed. The second order self-energies of hadrons are calculated from $\hat{S}_2$ matrix, and then an effective method to solve nuclear many-body problems, sum rules on quantum hadrodynamics, is summarized. The differences between this method and quantum hadrodynamics are discussed. The effective nucleon mass in the nuclear matter is redefined in the relativistic Hartree approximation, and a self-consistent relativistic mean-field model based on quantum hadrodynamics 2 is proposed. It is pointed out that the original definition on effective nucleon mass in quantum hadrodynamics 2 is not self-consistent, and all the parameters in the relativistic mean-field approximation should be fixed again according to the new definition.

Effective photon mass in nuclear matter and finite nuclei

Electromagnetic field in nuclear matter and nuclei are studied. In the nuclear matter, because the expectation value of the electric charge density operator is not zero, different in vacuum, the U(1) local gauge symmetry of electric charge is spontaneously broken, and consequently, the photon gains an effective mass through the Higgs mechanism. An alternative way to study the effective mass of photon is to calculate the self-energy of photon perturbatively. It shows that the effective mass of photon is about $5.42MeV$ in the symmetric nuclear matter at the saturation density $ρ_0 = 0.16fm^{-3}$ and about $2.0MeV$ at the surface of ${}^{238}U$. It seems that the two-body decay of a massive photon causes the sharp lines of electron-positron pairs in the low energy heavy ion collision experiments of ${}^{238}U+{}^{232}Th$ .

Relativistic mean-field approximation with density-dependent screening meson masses in nuclear matter

The Debye screening masses of the $σ$, $ω$ and neutral $ρ$ mesons and the photon are calculated in the relativistic mean-field approximation. As the density of the nucleon increases, all the screening masses of mesons increase. It shows a different result with Brown-Rho scaling, which implies a reduction in the mass of all the mesons in the nuclear matter except the pion. Replacing the masses of the mesons with their corresponding screening masses in Walecka-1 model, five saturation properties of the nuclear matter are fixed reasonably, and then a density-dependent relativistic mean-field model is proposed without introducing the non-linear self-coupling terms of mesons.

A Nonlinear Realized Approach of SU(2) Chiral Symmetry Spontaneous Breaking and Properties of Nuclear Matter

A nonlinear realization of SU(2) chiral symmetry spontaneous breaking approach is developed in the composite operator formalism. A Lagrangian including quark, gluon and Goldstone boson degrees of freedom of the chiral quark model is obtained from the QCD Lagrangian. A way to link the chiral symmetry spontaneous breaking formalism at hadron level and that at quark level is predicted. too. The application to nuclear matter shows that the approach is quite successful in describing the properties of nuclear matter and the quark condensate in it.
