Electrically Accessible Metamagnetic Transition via a Doping-Induced Low-Energy Magnetic State in Antiferromagnetic Insulator RFeO3

Low-energy antiferromagnetic phase transitions offer an appealing platform for low-power spintronic functionalities, yet their direct electrical access in insulating antiferromagnets remains challenging, particularly in the low-field regime where subtle Neeel vector reorientations dominate. Here, we demonstrate that targeted rare-earth-site engineering enables an electrically accessible metamagnetic transition in the insulating orthoferrite Ho0.5Dy0.5FeO3. By combining the distinct spin-reorientation sequences of DyFeO3 and HoFeO3, Dy substitution stabilizes a dual spin-reorientation pathway, hosting an intermediate state with a reduced energy barrier. This low-energy antiferromagnetic state can be tuned into the weak-ferromagnetic state under low magnetic fields. The critical field decreases with increasing temperature, providing a favorable window for functional manipulation. Both longitudinal and transverse spin Hall magnetoresistance channels exhibit clear and reproducible signatures of the metamagnetic transitions. Owing to the enhanced sensitivity of the transverse channel, additional low-field features are resolved, reflecting the projection of the Neel vector onto the spin-accumulation direction. Electrical transport measurements correlate directly with the magnetically determined phase boundaries, establishing a purely electrical access to low-energy phase transitions and to illustrate a viable pathway for exploring low-power spin dynamics in insulating oxide antiferromagnets.

Magnetotransport and Carrier Dynamics in Quasi-One-Dimensional Antiferromagnet KMn$_6$Bi$_5$

Quasi-one-dimensional materials $A$Mn$_6$Bi$_5$ ($A$ = Na, K, Rb, Cs) exhibit unique electronic behaviors such as antiferromagnetism, charge density waves, and pressure-induced superconductivity. Thus, they serve as a suitable model system to investigate emergent quantum phenomena produced by the interactions among spin, charge, and lattice. Here we report the magnetotransport properties of KMn$_6$Bi$_5$, revealing a cascade of temperature-dependent carrier dynamics. Below 5 K, the system, despite its anisotropic electronic structure, could be effectively described by an isotropic two-band model and exhibits a large, non-saturating magnetoresistance ($\propto B^{1.8}$). Upon warming, a crossover to a single-band regime occurs around 20 K, driven by the suppression of a hole pocket. Electron density recovers as antiferromagnetic gap openings gradually close from 25 to 70 K which is just below the N$\mathrm{\acute{e}}$el temperature. Within this temperature range, field-quenched spin fluctuations suppress magnetoresistance. Furthermore, we attribute the low-temperature resistivity upturn to the scaling behavior of magnetoresistance. These findings provide crucial insights into the interplay of dimensionality, magnetism, and electron correlations in quasi-one-dimensional magnetic semimetals.

Charge density wave with suppressed long-range structural modulation in canted antiferromagnetic kagome FeGe

Kagome lattice can host abundant exotic quantum states such as superconductivity and charge density wave (CDW). Recently, successive orders of A-type antiferromagnetism (AFM), CDW and canted AFM have been manifested upon cooling in kagome FeGe. However, the mechanism of CDW and interaction with magnetism remains unclear. Here we investigate the evolution of CDW with temperature across the canted AFM by single-crystal x-ray diffraction, scanning tunneling microscope (STM) and resonant elastic x-ray scattering (REXS). Interestingly, CDW-induced superlattice reflections become weak after the canted AFM, although long-range CDW order is still detectable by STM and REXS. We uncover a novel long-range CDW order with suppressed structural modulation, likely due to the competition for the underlying crystal structure between CDW and canted AFM. Additionally, occupational modulations of Ge1 in the kagome plane and displacive modulations of all atoms were extracted. The results confirm Ge dimerization along the c axis and suggest a dynamic transformation between different CDW domains.

Weak low-temperature ferromagnetism and linear magnetoresistance in Lu$_{0.75}$Fe$_6$Sn$_6$ with a disordered HfFe$_6$Ge$_6$-type structure

We report the synthesis of Lu$_{0.75}$Fe$_6$Sn$_6$ single crystals with a Fe-kagome lattice using a self-flux method. The crystal structure, magnetic, thermodynamic and electrical transport properties were investigated. Structure refinement reveals that Lu$_{0.75}$Fe$_6$Sn$_6$ has a HfFe$_6$Ge$_6$-type structure as the major framework intergrown with a CoSn-type structure, leading to a vacancy of 25% on the Lu-site and disorder on the Sn-site. It exhibits a significant magnetic anisotropy with weak ferromagnetism in the ab-plane below 40 K and antiferromagnetic behavior along the c-axis. The weak ferromagnetism is due to the canted antiferromagnetism with magnetic moment deviating from the $c$-axis to the ab-plane. Besides, an anisotropic non-saturated linear magnetoresistance is also observed in Lu$_{0.75}$Fe$_6$Sn$_6$, probably resulting from the structural disorder in the sample.

Annealing-induced long-range charge density wave order in magnetic kagome FeGe: fluctuations and disordered structure

Charge density wave (CDW) in kagome materials with the geometric frustration is able to carry unconventional characteristics. Recently, a CDW has been observed below the antiferromagnetic order in kagome FeGe, in which magnetism and CDW are intertwined to form an emergent quantum ground state. However, the CDW is only short-ranged and the structural modulation originating from it has yet to be determined experimentally. Here we realize a long-range CDW order by post-annealing process, and resolve the structure model through single crystal x-ray diffraction. Occupational disorder of Ge resulting from short-range CDW correlations above $T_\mathrm{CDW}$ is identified from structure refinements. The partial dimerization of Ge along the $c$ axis is unveiled to be the dominant distortion for the CDW. Occupational disorder of Ge is also proved to exist in the CDW phase due to the random selection of partially dimerized Ge sites. Our work provides useful insights for understanding the unconventional nature of the CDW in FeGe.

Enhancing the magnetoelectric coupling of Co4Nb2O9[100] by substitution of Mg for Co

We report experimental studies on enhancing the magnetoelectric (ME) coupling of Co$_4$Nb$_2$O$_9$ by substitution of non-magnetic metal Mg for Co. A series of single crystal Co$_{4-x}$Mg$_x$Nb$_2$O$_9$ (x=0, 1, 2, 3) with a single-phase corundum-type structure are synthesized by the optical floating zone method, and the good quality and crystallographic orientations of the synthesized samples are confirmed by Laue spots and sharp XRD peaks. Although the Neel temperature ($T_N$) of the Mg substituted crystals are slightly decreased from 27 K for pure Co$_4$Nb$_2$O$_9$ to 19 K and 11 K for Co$_3$MgNb$_2$O$_9$ and Co$_2$Mg$_2$Nb$_2$O$_9$, respectively, the ME coupling is double enhanced by Mg substitution when x=1. For the magnetic field (electric field) control of electric polarization (magnetization), the ME coefficient $α_{ME}$ of Co$_3$MgNb$_2$O$_9$ is measured to be 12.8 ps/m (13.7 ps/m). These results indicate that the Mg substituted Co$_{4-x}$Mg$_x$Nb$_2$O$_9$ (x=1) could serve as a potential material candidate for applications in future logic spintronics and logic devices.

Mn-doping induced ferromagnetism and enhanced superconductivity in Bi_4-x Mn_x O_4 S_3 (0.075 < = x < = 0.15)

We demonstrate that Mn-doping in the layered sulfides Bi_4O_4S_3 leads to stable Bi_4-x Mn_x O_4 S_3 compounds that exhibit both long-range ferromagnetism and enhanced superconductivity for 0.075 < = x < = 0.15, with a possible record superconducting transition temperature (T_c) = 15 K among all BiS_2-based superconductors. We conjecture that the coexistence of superconductivity and ferromagnetism may be attributed to Mn-doping in the spacer Bi2O2 layers away from the superconducting BiS_2 layers, whereas the enhancement of T_c may be due to excess electron transfer to BiS_2 from the Mn4+/Mn3+-substitutions in Bi_2O_2. This notion is empirically corroborated by the increased electron-carrier densities upon Mn doping, and by further studies of the Bi_4-x A_x O_4 S_3 compounds (A = Co, Ni; x = 0.1, 0.125), where the T_c values remain comparable to that of the undoped Bi_4O_4S_3 system (= 4.5 K) due to lack of 4+ valences in either Co or Ni ions for excess electron transfer to the BiS_2 layers. These findings therefore shed new light on feasible pathways to enhance the T_c values of BiS_2-based superconductors.

Three Dimensional Superconductivity in FeSe with Tczero Up to 10.9 K Induced by Internal Strain

Polycrystalline sample FeSe was synthesized by a self-flux solution method which shows a zero resistance temperature up to 10.9 K and a Tconset (90% \rhon, \rhon: normal state resistivity) up to 13.3 K. The decrease of superconducting transition temperature by heat treatment indicates that internal crystallographic strain which plays the same effect as external pressure is the origin of its high Tc. The fluctuation conductivity was studied which could be well described by 3D Aslamazov-Larkin (AL) power law. The estimated value of coherence length \xic=9.2 Åis larger than the distance between conducting layers (~6.0 Å), indicating the three-dimensional nature of superconductivity in this compound.

Itinerant metamagnetism in manganites caused by the field-induced electronic nematic order

Itinerant metamagnetism transition is observed and studied in perovskite La1-xCaxMn0.90Cu0.10O3 system for x = 0.30. At a constant low temperature, 10 K < T < 150 K, there is a continuous second-order metamagnetism jump from a low magnetic state to a high one with the magnetic field H increasing. However, at an exceeding low temperature, T = 2.5 K, the metamagnetism jump at H = 3.5 T becomes to be a robust first-order transition, and another metamagnetism transition occurs at a higher field H = 7.0 T. Since there is no charge ordering sign in the present system, it can not be understood by using the phase separation model or the prior martensite/austenitic phase transition scenario. A theoretical electronic nematic order phase formation is evidenced to answer for the two consecutive metamagnetic transitions, which separate the nematic phase from the low-field (H < 3.5 T) and high-field (H > 7.0 T) isotropic phases.
