Role of Future SNIa Data from Rubin LSST in Reinvestigating Cosmological Models

We study how future Type-Ia supernovae (SNIa) standard candles detected by the Vera C. Rubin Observatory (LSST) can constrain some cosmological models. We use a realistic three-year SNIa simulated dataset generated by the LSST Dark Energy Science Collaboration (DESC) Time Domain pipeline, which includes a mix of spectroscopic and photometrically identified candidates. We combine this data with Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) and Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) measurements to estimate the dark energy model parameters for two models -- the baseline $\Lambda$CDM and Chevallier-Polarski-Linder (CPL) dark energy parametrization. We compare them with the current constraints obtained from joint analysis of the latest real data from the Pantheon SNIa compilation, CMB from Planck 2018 and BAO. Our analysis finds tighter constraints on the model parameters along with a significant reduction of correlation between $H_0$ and $\sigma_{8,0}$. We find that LSST is expected to significantly improve upon the existing SNIa data in the critical analysis of cosmological models.

Estimating weak lensing convergence correlation of Type-Ia supernovae from 5-year SNLS data by internal error estimate technique

We report non-zero weak lensing convergence correlation signal of Type-Ia supernovae from 5-year Supernovae Legacy Survey data. For our analysis we utilize 296 supernovae magnification data from 5-year SNLS in the weak lensing limit. The data we use consists of measurements from four different patches, each covering 1 square degree of the sky, merged together. We demonstrate that it is possible to have a very good estimate of the two point correlation function from this data using internal error estimate technique. In order to have a good estimate of the corresponding covariance matrix we apply bootstrap spatial re-sampling technique where we reshuffle the original data consisting of 296 data points 100-10000 times and compare the results with that obtained from original data points. We show that this technique helps us arrive at a reliable conclusion on weak lensing convergence even though the original dataset comprises of a small number of data points. This also allows us to compute the corresponding covariance matrix with great accuracy.

Constraints on quintessence scalar field models using cosmological observations

We consider a varieties of quintessence scalar field models in a homogeneous and isotropic geometry of the universe with zero spatial curvature aiming to provide stringent constraints using a series of cosmological data sets, namely, the cosmic microwave background observations (CMB), baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO), joint light curve analysis (JLA) from supernovae type Ia, redshift space distortions (RSD), and the cosmic chronometers (CC). From the qualitative evolution of the models, we find all of them are able to execute a fine transition from the past decelerating phase to the presently accelerating expansion where in addition, the equation of state of the scalar field (also the effective equation of state) might be close to that of the $Λ$CDM cosmology depending on its free parameters. From the observational analyses, we find that the scalar field parameters are unconstrained irrespective of all the observational datasets. In fact, we find that the quintessence scalar field models are pretty much determined by the CMB observations since any of the external datasets such as BAO, JLA, RSD, CC does not add any constraining power to CMB. Additionally, we observe a strong negative correlation between the parameters $H_0$ (present value of the Hubble parameter), $Ω_{m0}$ (density parameter for the matter sector, i.e., cold dark matter plus baryons) exists, while no correlation between $H_0$, and $σ_8$ (amplitude of the matter fluctuation) are not correlated. We also comment that the present models are unable to reconcile the tension on $H_0$. Finally, we conclude our work with the Bayesian analyses which report that the non-interacting $Λ$CDM model is preferred over all the quintessence scalar field models.

A Demonstration of Spectral Level Reconstruction of Intrinsic $B$-mode Power

We investigate the prospects and consequences of the spectral level reconstruction of primordial $B$-mode power by solving the systems of linear equations assuming that the lensing potential together with the lensed polarization spectra are already in hand. We find that this reconstruction technique may be very useful to have an estimate of the amplitude of primordial gravity waves or more specifically the value of tensor to scalar ratio. We also see that one can have cosmic variance limited reconstruction of the intrinsic $B$-mode power up to few hundred multipoles ($\ell\sim500$) which is more than sufficient to have an estimate of the tensor to scalar ratio. Since the small scale cosmic microwave background (CMB henceforth) anisotropies are not sourced by the primordial gravity waves generated during inflation. We also find that the impact of instrumental noise may be bypassed within this reconstruction algorithm. A simple demonstration for the nullification of the instrumental noise anticipating COrE like futuristic space mission complemented with Planck 2013 cosmology has been presented.
