Fermi-surface studies of altermagnetic CrSb from Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations

Within the family of altermagnets, CrSb is a metallic, collinearly ordered material that exhibits particularly strong symmetry-induced spin splitting in its band structure. In this study, we combine electrical magnetotransport measurements up to 68 T on microfabricated single-crystalline CrSb with first-principles calculations to investigate its Fermi surface. Notably, we study the temperature and field-orientation dependence of magnetic quantum oscillations observed in the magnetoresistance. The observed frequency spectrum agrees well with results from density-functional-theory calculations. Our results confirm the predicted electronic band structure of altermagnetic CrSb and highlight the importance of high magnetic fields for accurately mapping the Fermi surfaces of unconventional emergent materials.

Direct probe of magnetic field effects on phonons by ultrasound propagation in a quasi-two-dimensional honeycomb magnet Na$_2$Co$_2$TeO$_6$

We study the phonon behavior of a Co-based honeycomb frustrated magnet Na$_2$Co$_2$TeO$_6$ under magnetic field applied perpendicular to the honeycomb plane. The temperature and field dependence of the sound velocity and sound attenuation unveil prominent spin-lattice coupling in this material, promoting ultrasound as a sensitive probe for magnetic properties. An out-of-plane ferrimagnetic order is determined below the Néel temperature $T_N=27$~K. A comprehensive analysis of our data further supports a triple-Q ground state of Na$_2$Co$_2$TeO$_6$. Furthermore, the ultrasound data were systematically compared to the thermal transport results from literature, to unveil the importance of phononic contribution to the observed transport behaviors.

Slow magnetic quantum oscillations in the c-axis magnetoresistance of UTe$_2$

Details of the electronic band structure in unconventional superconductors are key to the understanding of their fundamental ground state. The potential spin-triplet superconductor UTe$_2$, with $T_\mathrm{c}\approx 2.1\,$K, has attracted attention recently. Its main Fermi surface consists of weakly corrugated, two-dimensional Fermi-surface cylinders that run along the crystallographic $c$ axis. In addition, there is evidence for the presence of an additional small three-dimensional band. This has been discussed controversially as it may be essential for the realization of superconductivity in UTe$_2$. Here, we investigate the angle-resolved magnetoresistance and Hall effect in bulk crystalline samples with current along the $c$ axis in fields up to $60\,$T. We observe low-frequency magnetic quantum oscillations with light effective masses that are most pronounced for magnetic field applied along the $a$ axis. Two distinct frequencies indicate two separate changes in the Fermi-surface topology, likely connected with Lifshitz transitions. We discuss the origin of these oscillations in terms of magnetic breakdown, quantum interference, and other potential mechanisms.
