The Capacity of Wedge Sum of Spheres of Different Dimensions

K. Borsuk in 1979, in the Topological Conference in Moscow, introduced the concept of the capacity of a compactum and raised some interesting questions about it. In this paper, during computing the capacity of wedge sum of finitely many spheres of different dimensions and the complex projective plane, we give a negative answer to a question of Borsuk whether the capacity of a compactum determined by its homology properties.

When Is a Local Homeomorphism a Semicovering map?

In this paper, by reviewing the concept of semicovering maps, we present some conditions under which a local homeomorphism becomes a semicovering map. We also obtain some conditions under which a local homeomorphism is a covering map.

On the Capacity of Eilenberg-MacLane and Moore Spaces

K. Borsuk in 1979, in the Topological Conference in Moscow, introduced the concept of the capacity of a compactum and asked some questions concerning properties of the capacity of compacta. In this paper, we give partial positive answers to three of these questions in some cases. In fact, by describing spaces homotopy dominated by Moore and Eilenberg-MacLane spaces, we obtain the capacity of a Moore space $M(A,n)$ and an Eilenberg-MacLane space $K(G,n)$. Also, we compute the capacity of the wedge sum of finitely many Moore spaces of different degrees and the capacity of the product of finitely many Eilenberg-MacLane spaces of different homotopy types. In particular, we give exact capacity of the wedge sum of finitely many spheres of the same or different dimensions.

On Semicovering, Subsemicovering and Subcovering Maps

In this paper, by reviewing the concept of subcovering and semicovering maps, we extend the notion of subcovering map to subsemicovering map. We present some necessary or sufficient conditions for a local homeomorphism to be a subsemicovering map. Moreover, we investigate the relationship between these conditions by some examples. Finally, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a subsemicovering map to be semicovering.

Topological Coarse Shape Homotopy Groups

Uchillo-Ibanez et al. introduced a topology on the sets of shape morphisms between arbitrary topological spaces in 1999. In this paper, applying a similar idea, we introduce a topology on the set of coarse shape morphisms $Sh^*(X,Y)$, for arbitrary topological spaces $X$ and $Y$. In particular, we can consider a topology on the coarse shape homotopy group of a topological space $(X,x)$, $Sh^*((S^k,*),(X,x))=\checkπ_k^{*}(X,x)$, which makes it a Hausdorff topological group. Moreover, we study some properties of these topological coarse shape homotopoy groups such as second countability, movability and in particullar, we prove that $\checkπ_k^{*^{top}}$ preserves finite product of compact Hausdorff spaces. Also, we show that for a pointed topological space $(X,x)$, $\checkπ_k^{top}(X,x)$ can be embedded in $\checkπ_k^{*^{top}}(X,x)$.

On Relative Central Extensions and Covering Pairs

Let $(G,N)$ be a pair of groups. In this article, first we construct a relative central extension for the pair $(G,N)$ such that special types of covering pair of $(G,N)$ are homomorphic image of it. Second, we show that every perfect pair admits at least one covering pair. Finally, among extending some properties of perfect groups to perfect pairs, we characterize covering pairs of a perfect pair $(G,N)$ under some extra assumptions.

On Subgroups of Topologized Fundamental Groups and Generalized Coverings

In this paper, we are interested in study subgroups of topologized fundamental groups and their influences on generalized covering maps. More precisely, we find some relationships between generalized covering subgroups and the other famous subgroups of the fundamental group equipped with the compact-open topology and the whisker topology. Moreover, we present some conditions under which generalized coverings, semicoverings and coverings are equal.

Unique Path Lifting from Homotopy Point of View

The paper is devoted to introduce some notions extending the unique path lifting property from a homotopy viewpoint and to study their roles in the category of fibrations. First, we define some homotopical kinds of the unique path lifting property and find all possible relationships between them. Moreover, we supplement the full relationships of these new notions in the presence of fibrations. Second, we deduce some results in the category of fibrations with these notions instead of unique path lifting such as the existence of products and coproducts. Also, we give a brief comparison of these new categories to some categories of the other generalizations of covering maps. Finally, we present two subgroups of the fundamental group related to the fibrations with these notions and compare them to the subgroups of the fundamental group related to covering and generalized covering maps.

On products in the coarse shape categories

The paper is devoted to the study of coarse shape of Cartesian products of topological spaces. If the Cartesian product of two spaces $X$ and $Y$ admits an HPol-expansion, which is the Cartesian product of HPol-expansions of these spaces, then $X\times Y$ is a product in the coarse shape category. As a consequence, the Cartesian product of two compact Hausdorff spaces is a product in the coarse shape category. Finally, we show that the shape groups and the coarse shape groups commute with products under some conditions.

On Topological Shape Homotopy Groups

In this paper, using the topology on the set of shape morphisms between arbitrary topological spaces $X$, $Y$, $Sh(X,Y)$, defined by Cuchillo-Ibanez et al. in 1999, we consider a topology on the shape homotopy groups of arbitrary topological spaces which make them Hausdorff topological groups. We then exhibit an example in which $\checkπ_k^{top}$ succeeds in distinguishing the shape type of $X$ and $Y$ while $\checkπ_k$ fails, for all $k\in \Bbb{N}$. Moreover, we present some basic properties of topological shape homotopy groups, among them commutativity of $\checkπ_k^{top}$ with finite product of compact Hausdorff spaces. Finally, we consider a quotient topology on the $k$th shape group induced by the $k$th shape loop space and show that it coincides with the above topology.

A Topological Approach to the Nilpotent Multipliers of a Free Product

In this paper, using the topological interpretation of the Baer invariant of a group $G$, $\mathcal{V}M(G)$, with respect to an arbitrary variety $\mathcal{V}$, we extend a result of Burns and Ellis (Math. Z. 226 (1997) 405-428) on the second nilpotent multiplier of a free product of two groups to the $c$-nilpotent multipliers, for all $c\geq 1$. In particular, we show that $M^{(c)}(G\ast H)\cong M^{(c)}(G)\oplus M^{(c)}(H)$ when $G$ and $H$ are finite groups with some conditions or when $G$ and $H$ are two perfect groups.

On topological fundamental groups of quotient spaces

Let $p:X\rightarrow X/A$ be a quotient map, where $A$ is a subspace of $X$. We explore conditions under which $p_*(π_1^{qtop}(X,x_0))$ is dense in $π_1^{qtop}(X/A,*))$, where the fundamental groups enjoy the natural quotient topology inherited from the loop space and $p_*$ is the induced continuous homomorphism by the quotient map $p$. Also, we give some applications to find out some properties for $π_1^{qtop}(X/A,*)$. In particular, we give some conditions in which $π_1^{qtop}(X/A,*)$ is an indiscrete topological group.

On quasitopological homotopy groups of Inverse Limit Spaces

The paper is devoted to study the behavior of quasitopological homotopy groups on inverse limit spaces. More precisely, we present some conditions under which the quasitopological homotopy group of an inverse limit space and especially a product space is a topological group. Finally, we give some conditions for countability of homotopy groups.

On the Exponent of the Schur multiplier of a Pair of Finite $p$-Groups

In this paper, we find an upper bound for the exponent of the Schur multiplier of a pair $(G,N)$ of finite $p$-groups, when $N$ admits a complement in $G$. As a consequence, we show that the exponent of the Schur multiplier of a pair $(G,N)$ divides $\exp(N)$ if $(G,N)$ is a pair of finite $p$-groups of class at most $p-1$. We also prove that if $N$ is powerfully embedded in $G$, then the exponent of the Schur multiplier of a pair $(G,N)$ divides $\exp(N)$.

In this paper we give some conditions in which a direct product of groups is $\mathcal{V}-$capable if and only if each of its factors is $\mathcal{V}-$capable for some varieties $\mathcal{V}$. Moreover, we give some conditions in which a direct product of a finite family of pairs of groups is capable if and only if each of its factors is a capable pair of groups.

On locally 1-connectedness of quotient spaces and its applications to fundamental groups

Let $X$ be a locally 1-connected metric space and $A_1,A_2,...,A_n$ be connected, locally path connected and compact pairwise disjoint subspaces of $X$. In this paper, we show that the quotient space $X/(A_1,A_2,...,A_n)$ obtained from $X$ by collapsing each of the sets $A_i$'s to a point, is also locally 1-connected. Moreover, we prove that the induced continuous homomorphism of quasitopological fundamental groups is surjective. Finally, we give some applications to find out some properties of the fundamental group of the quotient space $X/(A_1,A_2,...,A_n)$.

On the Existence of Categorical Universal Coverings

In this paper, we study necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of categorical universal coverings using open covers of a given space $X$. As some applications, first we present a generalized version of the Shelah Theorem (Mycielski's conjecture: If $X$ is a Peano continuum, then $π_1(X,x)$ is uncountable or $X$ has a simply connected universal covering) which states that a first countable Peano space has a categorical universal covering or has an uncountable fundamental group. Second, we prove that the one point union $X_1\vee X_2=\frac{{X_1}\cup {X_2}}{{x_1}\sim {x_2}}$ has a categorical universal covering if and only if both $X_1$ and $X_2$ have categorical universal coverings.

On the Order of the Schur Multiplier of a Pair of Finite p-Groups

In 1998, G. Ellis defined the Schur multiplier of a pair $(G,N)$ of groups and mentioned that this notion is a useful tool for studying pairs of groups. In this paper, we characterize the structure of a pair of finite $p$-groups $(G,N)$ in terms of the order of the Schur multiplier of $(G,N)$ under some conditions.
