Analogues of Complex Geometry

We prove that there are no pseudoholomorphic theories of anything other than curves, even if one allows more general spaces than almost complex manifolds. The proof is elementary, except for theories of pseudoholomorphic hypersurfaces, where topological techniques are needed. Surprisingly, hypersurface theories exist ``microlocally'' (in great abundance) to all orders perturbatively, but not ``locally.''

Dual curves and pseudoholomorphic curves

A notion of dual curve for pseudoholomorphic curves in 4--manifolds turns out to be possible only if the notion of almost complex structure structure is slightly generalized. The resulting structure is as easy (perhaps easier) to work with, and yields many analogues of results in complex surface theory, using a description of the local geometry via Cartan's method of equivalence. Duality then uncovers a new infinite-dimensional family of geometric integrable systems. These are the first steps toward geometry on moduli spaces of pseudoholomorphic curves.

G2 manifolds of cohomogeneity two

This paper has been withdrawn by the author, due to errors in Groebner basis calculations in the cases of five and six dimensional groups.

Sussmann's orbit theorem and maps

A map between manifolds which matches up families of complete vector fields is a fiber bundle mapping on each orbit of those vector fields.
