Deformed Hermitian-Yang-Mills equation on the manifold of full flags

We construct the first example of a higher rank, irreducible deformed Hermitian-Yang-Mills (dHYM) connection in the small radius regime. We also construct these in the large radius regime on infinitely many different bundles and make some contributions to the rank one equation as well. In particular, we investigate solutions away from the supercritical regime, showing the existence of solutions with any possible angle, and rule out some possible stability conditions.

Construction of Nahm data and BPS monopoles with continuous symmetries

We study solutions to Nahm's equations with continuous symmetries and, under certain (mild) hypotheses, we classify the corresponding Ansätze. Using our classification, we construct novel Nahm data, and prescribe methods for generating further solutions. Finally, we use these results to construct new BPS monopoles with spherical symmetry.

High-dimensional percolation criticality and hints of mean-field-like caging of the random Lorentz gas

The random Lorentz gas (RLG) is a minimal model for transport in disordered media. Despite the broad relevance of the model, theoretical grasp over its properties remains weak. For instance, the scaling with dimension d of its localization transition at the void percolation threshold is not well controlled analytically nor computationally. A recent study [Biroli et al. Phys. Rev. E L030104 (2021)] of the caging behavior of the RLG motivated by the mean-field theory of glasses has uncovered physical inconsistencies in that scaling that heighten the need for guidance. Here, we first extend analytical expectations for asymptotic high-d bounds on the void percolation threshold, and then computationally evaluate both the threshold and its criticality in various d. In high-d systems, we observe that the standard percolation physics is complemented by a dynamical slowdown of the tracer dynamics reminiscent of mean-field caging. A simple modification of the RLG is found to bring the interplay between percolation and mean-field-like caging down to d=3.

Dynamical Equilibrium States of a Class of Irrotational Non-Orthogonally Transitive $G_{2}$ Cosmologies II: Models With One Hypersurface-Orthogonal Killing Vector Field

We consider a class of inhomogeneous self-similar cosmological models in which the perfect fluid flow is tangential to the orbits of a three-parameter similarity group. We restrict the similarity group to possess both an Abelian $G_{2}$, and a single hypersurface orthogonal Killing vector field, and we restrict the fluid flow to be orthogonal to the orbits of the Abelian $G_{2}$. The temporal evolution of the models is forced to be power law, due to the similarity group, and the Einstein field equations reduce to a three-dimensional autonomous system of ordinary differential equations which is qualitatively analysed in order to determine the spatial structure of the models. The existence of two classes of well-behaved models is demonstrated. The first of these is asymptotically spatially homogeneous and matter dominated, and the second is vacuum dominated and either asymptotically spatially homogeneous or acceleration dominated, at large spatial distances.

Studying Wythoff and Zometool Constructions using Maple

We describe a Maple package that serves at least four purposes. First, one can use it to compute whether or not a given polyhedral structure is Zometool constructible. Second, one can use it to manipulate Zometool objects, for example to determine how to best build a given structure. Third, the package allows for an easy computation of the polytopes obtained by the kaleiodoscopic construction called the Wythoff construction. This feature provides a source of multiple examples. Fourth, the package allows the projection on Coxeter planes

A Microscopic Model of the Stokes-Einstein Relation in Arbitrary Dimension

The Stokes-Einstein relation (SER) is one of the most robust and widely employed results from the theory of liquids. Yet sizable deviations can be observed for self-solvation, which cannot be explained by the standard hydrodynamic derivation. Here, we revisit the work of Masters and Madden [J. Chem. Phys. 74, 2450-2459 (1981)], who first solved a statistical mechanics model of the SER using the projection operator formalism. By generalizing their analysis to all spatial dimensions and to partially structured solvents, we identify a potential microscopic origin of some of these deviations. We also reproduce the SER-like result from the exact dynamics of infinite-dimensional fluids.

Spatially periodic instantons: Nahm transform and moduli

This paper establishes that the Nahm transform sending spatially periodic instantons (instantons on the product of the real line and a three-torus) to singular monopoles on the dual three-torus is indeed a bijection as suggested by the heuristic. In the process, we show how the Nahm transform intertwines to a Fourier-Mukai transform via Kobayashi-Hitchin correspondences. We also prove existence and non-existence results.

Deformations of nearly Kähler instantons

We formulate the deformation theory for instantons on nearly Kähler six-manifolds using spinors and Dirac operators. Using this framework we identify the space of deformations of an irreducible instanton with semisimple structure group with the kernel of an elliptic operator, and prove that abelian instantons are rigid. As an application, we show that the canonical connection on three of the four homogeneous nearly Kähler six-manifolds G/H is a rigid instanton with structure group H. In contrast, these connections admit large spaces of deformations when regarded as instantons on the tangent bundle with structure group SU(3).

Dimensional dependence of the Stokes--Einstein relation and its violation

We generalize to higher spatial dimensions the Stokes--Einstein relation (SER) and the leading correction to diffusivity in periodic systems, and validate them using numerical simulations. Using these results, we investigate the evolution of the SER violation with dimension in simple hard sphere glass formers. The analysis suggests that the SER violation disappears around dimension d=8, above which SER is not violated. The critical exponent associated to the violation appears to evolve linearly in 8-d below d=8, as predicted by Biroli and Bouchaud [J. Phys.: Cond. Mat. 19, 205101 (2007)], but the linear coefficient is not consistent with their prediction. The SER violation evolution with d establishes a new benchmark for theory, and a complete description remains an open problem.

Geometrical Frustration and Static Correlations in Hard-Sphere Glass Formers

We analytically and numerically characterize the structure of hard-sphere fluids in order to review various geometrical frustration scenarios of the glass transition. We find generalized polytetrahedral order to be correlated with increasing fluid packing fraction, but to become increasingly irrelevant with increasing dimension. We also find the growth in structural correlations to be modest in the dynamical regime accessible to computer simulations.

Geometrical Frustration and Static Correlations in a Simple Glass Former

We study the geometrical frustration scenario of glass formation for simple hard sphere models. We find that the dual picture in terms of defects brings little insight and no theoretical simplification for the understanding of the slowing down of relaxation, because of the strong frustration characterizing these systems. The possibility of a growing static length is furthermore found to be physically irrelevant in the regime that is accessible to computer simulations.

Asymptotic Hodge Theory of Vector Bundles

We introduce several families of filtrations on the space of vector bundles over a smooth projective variety. These filtrations are defined using the large k asymptotics of the kernel of the Dolbeault Dirac operator on a bundle twisted by the kth power of an ample line bundle. The filtrations measure the failure of the bundle to admit a holomorphic structure. We study compatibility under the Chern isomorphism of these filtrations with the Hodge filtration on cohomology.

Singular Hermitian-Einstein monopoles on the product of a circle and a Riemann surface

In this paper, the moduli space of singular unitary Hermitian--Einstein monopoles on the product of a circle and a Riemann surface is shown to correspond to a moduli space of stable pairs on the Riemann surface. These pairs consist of a holomorphic vector bundle on the surface and a meromorphic automorphism of the bundle. The singularities of this automorphism correspond to the singularities of the singular monopole. We then consider the complex geometry of the moduli space; in particular, we compute dimensions, both from the complex geometric and the gauge theoretic point of view.

Weak Convergence in the Prokhorov Metric of Methods for Stochastic Differential Equations

We consider the weak convergence of numerical methods for stochastic differential equations (SDEs). Weak convergence is usually expressed in terms of the convergence of expected values of test functions of the trajectories. Here we present an alternative formulation of weak convergence in terms of the well-known Prokhorov metric on spaces of random variables. For a general class of methods, we establish bounds on the rates of convergence in terms of the Prokhorov metric. In doing so, we revisit the original proofs of weak convergence and show explicitly how the bounds on the error depend on the smoothness of the test functions. As an application of our result, we use the Strassen - Dudley theorem to show that the numerical approximation and the true solution to the system of SDEs can be re-embedded in a probability space in such a way that the method converges there in a strong sense. One corollary of this last result is that the method converges in the Wasserstein distance, another metric on spaces of random variables. Another corollary establishes rates of convergence for expected values of test functions assuming only local Lipschitz continuity. We conclude with a review of the existing results for pathwise convergence of weakly converging methods and the corresponding strong results available under re-embedding.

The Nahm transform for calorons

In this paper, we complete the proof of an equivalence given by Nye and Singer of the equivalence between calorons (instantons on $S^1\times R^3$) and solutions to Nahm's equations over the circle, both satisfying appropriate boundary conditions. Many of the key ingredients are provided by a third way of encoding the same data which involves twistors and complex geometry.

Calorons, Nahm's equations on S^1 and bundles over P^1xP^1

The moduli space of solutions to Nahm's equations of rank (k,k+j) on the circle, and hence, of SU(2) calorons of charge (k,j), is shown to be equivalent to the moduli of holomorphic rank 2 bundles on P^1xP^1 trivialized at infinity with c_2=k and equipped with a flag of degree j along P^1x{0}. An explicit matrix description of these spaces is given by a monad construction

From spatially periodic instantons to singular monopoles

The main result is a computation of the Nahm transform of a SU(2)-instanton over RxT^3, called spatially-periodic instanton. It is a singular monopole over T^3, a solution to the Bogomolny equation, whose rank is computed and behavior at the singular points is described.
