Variational Ansatz for an Abelian to non-Abelian Topological Phase Transition in $ν= 1/2 + 1/2$ Bilayers

We propose a one-parameter variational ansatz to describe the tunneling-driven Abelian to non-Abelian transition in bosonic $ν=1/2+1/2$ fractional quantum Hall bilayers. This ansatz, based on exact matrix product states, captures the low-energy physics all along the transition and allows to probe its characteristic features. The transition is continuous, characterized by the decoupling of antisymmetric degrees of freedom. We futhermore determine the tunneling strength above which non-Abelian statistics should be observed experimentally. Finally, we propose to engineer the inter-layer tunneling to create an interface trapping a neutral chiral Majorana. We microscopically characterize such an interface using a slightly modified model wavefunction.

Entanglement entropies of minimal models from null-vectors

We present a new method to compute Rényi entropies in one-dimensional critical systems. The null-vector conditions on the twist fields in the cyclic orbifold allow us to derive a differential equation for their correlation functions. The latter are then determined by standard bootstrap techniques. We apply this method to the calculation of various Rényi entropies in the non-unitary Yang-Lee model.

Matrix Product State description of the Halperin States

Many fractional quantum Hall states can be expressed as a correlator of a given conformal field theory used to describe their edge physics. As a consequence, these states admit an economical representation as an exact Matrix Product States (MPS) that was extensively studied for the systems without any spin or any other internal degrees of freedom. In that case, the correlators are built from a single electronic operator, which is primary with respect to the underlying conformal field theory. We generalize this construction to the archetype of Abelian multicomponent fractional quantum Hall wavefunctions, the Halperin states. These latest can be written as conformal blocks involving multiple electronic operators and we explicitly derive their exact MPS representation. In particular, we deal with the caveat of the full wavefunction symmetry and show that any additional SU(2) symmetry is preserved by the natural MPS truncation scheme provided by the conformal dimension. We use our method to characterize the topological order of the Halperin states by extracting the topological entanglement entropy. We also evaluate their bulk correlation length which are compared to plasma analogy arguments.

Second level semi-degenerate fields in W3 Toda theory: matrix element and differential equation

In a recent study we considered W3 Toda 4-point functions that involve matrix elements of a primary field with the highest-weight in the adjoint representation of sl3. We generalize this result by considering a semi-degenerate primary field, which has one null vector at level two. We obtain a sixth-order Fuchsian differential equation for the conformal blocks. We discuss the presence of multiplicities, the matrix elements and the fusion rules.

Correlation functions with fusion-channel multiplicity in W3 Toda field theory

Current studies of WN Toda field theory focus on correlation functions such that the WN highest-weight representations in the fusion channels are multiplicity-free. In this work, we study W3 Toda 4-point functions with multiplicity in the fusion channel. The conformal blocks of these 4-point functions involve matrix elements of a fully-degenerate primary field with a highest-weight in the adjoint representation of sl3, and a semi-degenerate primary field with a highest-weight in the fundamental representation of sl3. We show that, when the fusion rules are obeyed, the matrix elements of the fully-degenerate adjoint field, between two arbitrary descendant states, can be computed explicitly, on equal footing with the matrix elements of the semi-degenerate fundamental field. Using null-state conditions, we obtain a fourth-order Fuchsian differential equation for the conformal blocks. Using Okubo theory, we show that, due to the presence of multiplicities, this differential equation belongs to a class of Fuchsian equations that is different from those that have appeared so far in WN theories. We solve this equation, compute its monodromy group, and construct the monodromy-invariant correlation functions.

Correlation functions in loop models

In this paper we provide a step towards the understanding of the O($n$) bulk operator algebra. By using a mixture of analytical and numerical methods, we compute (ratios of) structure constants, and analyse the logarithmic structure of the transfer matrix. We believe that the O($n$) model for a generic value of $n = q + q^{-1}$ (i.e. for $q$ not a root of unity) provides a toy model of a bulk logarithmic CFT that is considerably simpler than its counterparts at $q$ a root of unity.

Conformal blocks in Virasoro and W theories: duality and the Calogero-Sutherland model

We study the properties of the conformal blocks of the conformal field theories with Virasoro or W-extended symmetry. When the conformal blocks contain only second-order degenerate fields, the conformal blocks obey second order differential equations and they can be interpreted as ground-state wave functions of a trigonometric Calogero-Sutherland Hamiltonian with non-trivial braiding properties. A generalized duality property relates the two types of second order degenerate fields. By studying this duality we found that the excited states of the Calogero-Sutherland Hamiltonian are characterized by two partitions, or in the case of WA_{k-1} theories by k partitions. By extending the conformal field theories under consideration by a u(1) field, we find that we can put in correspondence the states in the Hilbert state of the extended CFT with the excited non-polynomial eigenstates of the Calogero-Sutherland Hamiltonian. When the action of the Calogero-Sutherland integrals of motion is translated on the Hilbert space, they become identical to the integrals of motion recently discovered by Alba, Fateev, Litvinov and Tarnopolsky in Liouville theory in the context of the AGT conjecture. Upon bosonisation, these integrals of motion can be expressed as a sum of two, or in general k, bosonic Calogero-Sutherland Hamiltonian coupled by an interaction term with a triangular structure. For special values of the coupling constant, the conformal blocks can be expressed in terms of Jack polynomials with pairing properties, and they give electron wave functions for special Fractional Quantum Hall states

Spin-Singlet Quantum Hall States and Jack Polynomials with a Prescribed Symmetry

We show that a large class of bosonic spin-singlet Fractional Quantum Hall model wave-functions and their quasi-hole excitations can be written in terms of Jack polynomials with a prescribed symmetry. Our approach describes new spin-singlet quantum Hall states at filling fraction nu = 2k/(2r-1) and generalizes the (k,r) spin-polarized Jack polynomial states. The NASS and Halperin spin singlet states emerge as specific cases of our construction. The polynomials express many-body states which contain configurations obtained from a root partition through a generalized squeezing procedure involving spin and orbital degrees of freedom. The corresponding generalized Pauli principle for root partitions is obtained, allowing for counting of the quasihole states. We also extract the central charge and quasihole scaling dimension, and propose a conjecture for the underlying CFT of the (k, r) spin-singlet Jack states.

Particles in non-Abelian gauge potentials - Landau problem and insertion of non-Abelian flux

We study charged spin-1/2 particles in two dimensions, subject to a perpendicular non-Abelian magnetic field. Specializing to a choice of vector potential that is spatially constant but non-Abelian, we investigate the Landau level spectrum in planar and spherical geometry, paying particular attention to the role of the total angular momentum J = L +S. After this we show that the adiabatic insertion of non-Abelian flux in a spin-polarized quantum Hall state leads to the formation of charged spin-textures, which in the simplest cases can be identified with quantum Hall Skyrmions.

Decomposition of fractional quantum Hall states: New symmetries and approximations

We provide a detailed description of a new symmetry structure of the monomial (Slater) expansion coefficients of bosonic (fermionic) fractional quantum Hall states first obtained in Ref. 1, which we now extend to spin-singlet states. We show that the Haldane-Rezayi spin-singlet state can be obtained without exact diagonalization through a differential equation method that we conjecture to be generic to other FQH model states. The symmetry rules in Ref. 1 as well as the ones we obtain for the spin singlet states allow us to build approximations of FQH states that exhibit increasing overlap with the exact state (as a function of system size). We show that these overlaps reach unity in the thermodynamic limit even though our approximation omits more than half of the Hilbert space. We show that the product rule is valid for any FQH state which can be written as an expectation value of parafermionic operators.

Electron-Quasihole Duality and Second Order Differential Equation for Read-Rezayi and Jacks Wavefunctions

We consider the quasihole wavefunctions of the non-abelian Read-Rezayi quantum Hall states which are given by the conformal blocks of the minimal model WA_{k-1}(k+1,k+2) of the WA_{k-1} algebra. By studying the degenerate representations of this conformal field theories, we derive a second order differential equation satisfied by a general many-quasihole wavefunction. We find a duality between the differential equations fixing the electron and quasihole wavefunctions. They both satisfy the Laplace-Beltrami equation. We use this equation to obtain an analytic expression for the generic wavefunction with one excess flux. These results also apply to the more general models WA_{k-1}(k+1,k+r) corresponding to the recently introduced Jack states.

Clustering properties, Jack polynomials and unitary conformal field theories

Recently, Jack polynomials have been proposed as natural generalizations of Z_k Read-Rezayi states describing non-Abelian fractional quantum Hall systems. These polynomials are conjectured to be related to correlation functions of a class of W-conformal field theories based on the Lie algebra A_{k-1}. These theories can be considered as non-unitary solutions of a more general series of CFTs with Z_k symmetry, the parafermionic theories. Starting from the observation that some parafermionic theories admit unitary solutions as well, we show, by computing the corresponding correlation functions, that these theories provide trial wavefunctions which satisfy the same clustering properties as the non-unitary ones. We show explicitly that, although the wavefunctions constructed by unitary CFTs cannot be expressed as a single Jack polynomial, they still show a fine structure where the mathematical properties of the Jack polynomials play a major role.

Relating Jack wavefunctions to WA_{k-1} theories

The (k,r)-admissible Jack polynomials, recently proposed as many-body wavefunctions for non-Abelian fractional quantum Hall systems, have been conjectured to be related to some correlation functions of the minimal model WA_{k-1}(k+1,k+r) of the WA_{k-1} algebra. By studying the degenerate representations of the WA_{k-1}(k+1,k+r) theory, we provide a proof for this conjecture.

A lattice model for the second $\mathbb{Z}_{3}$ parafermionic field theory

The second $\mathbb{Z}_{3}$ parafermionic conformal theories are associated with the coset construction $\frac{SU(2)_{k}\times SU(2)_{4}}{SU(2)_{k+4}} $. Solid-on-solid integrable lattice models obtained by fusion of the model based on level-1 representation of the affine algebra $B_1^{(1)}$ have a critical point described by these conformal theories. Explicit values for the Boltzmann weights are derived for these models, and it is shown that the Boltzmann weights can be made positive for a particular value of the spectral parameter, opening a way to eventual numerical simulations of these conformal field theories. Away from criticality, these lattice models describe an integrable, massive perturbation of the parafermionic conformal theory by the relevant field $Ψ_{-2/3}^{\dagger}D_{1,3} $.

Renormalization group flows for the second $\mathbb{Z}_{N}$ parafermionic field theory for $N$ even

Extending the results obtained in the case $N$ odd, the effect of slightly relevant perturbations of the second parafermionic field theory with the symmetry $\mathbb{Z}_{N}$, for $N$ even, are studied. The renormalization group equations, and their infra red fixed points exhibit the same structure in both cases. In addition to the standard flow from the $p$-th to the $(p-2)$-th model, another fixed point corresponding to the $(p-1)$-th model is found.
