SI-Traceable Temperature Calibration Based on Optical Lattice Clocks

We present a SI-traceable temperature calibration apparatus utilizing optical lattice clocks for precision metrology. The system employs a dual-blackbody radiation shield chamber with independent temperature control, enabling synchronous differential measurements of blackbody radiation (BBR)-induced frequency shifts in atomic ensembles. By correlating these shifts with chamber temperature, we propose absolute temperature determination traceable to the SI second through the optical clock frequency. Comprehensive uncertainty analysis demonstrates an absolute temperature uncertainty below 17 mK across the $200 \sim 350$ K range based on $^{87}$Sr optical lattice clock, representing an improvement of two orders of magnitude over current temperature measurements based on BBR-induced Rydberg state transitions. This advancement in primary thermometry offers significant improvements in precision, reproducibility, and versatility, with potential applications in metrology, fundamental physics, and industrial processes.

Determination of Land\'{e} $g_J$ factor and Zeeman coefficients in ground-state $^{171}$Yb$^+$ and their applications to quantum frequency standards

We report the determination of the Land\'{e} $g_J$ factor and Zeeman coefficients for the ground-state of $^{171}$Yb$^+$, relevant to microwave quantum frequency standards (QFSs). The $g_J$ factor is obtained by using two independent methods: multiconfiguration Dirac-Hartree-Fock and multireference configuration interaction, yielding a consistent value of 2.002615(70). The first- and second-order Zeeman coefficients are determined as 14,010.78(49) Hz/$\mu$T and 31.0869(22) mHz/$\mu$T$^2$, respectively, based on the calculated $g_J$ factor. These coefficients enable reduced magnetic-field-induced uncertainties, improving the accuracy of the $^{171}$Yb$^+$ microwave QFSs. The results reported in this work also offer potential for improved constraints on variations in fundamental constants through frequency comparisons, and advancing trapped-ion quantum computers based on the ground-state hyperfine splitting of $^{171}$Yb$^+$.

Ab initio calculations of the hyperfine structure of 109Cd, 109Cd+ and reevaluation of the nuclear quadrupole moment Q(109Cd)

Large scale ab initio calculations of the electric contribution (i.e. the electric field gradient) to the electric quadrupole hyperfine interaction constants $B$ for the $5p~^2P_{3/2}$ state in $^{109}$Cd$^+$ ion and the $5s5p~^3P_{1,2}$ states in neutral $^{109}$Cd atom were performed. To probe the sensitivity of $B$ to different electron correlation effects, six sets of variational multi-configuration Dirac-Hartree-Fock and relativistic configuration interaction calculations employing different strategies were carried out. The calculated electric field gradients, together with experimental values of $B$, allow us to extract a new value of the nuclear electric quadrupole moment $Q$($^{109}$Cd) = 0.634(22) b which is about 5\% larger than the recommended value [Stone, At. Data Nucl. Data Tables 111-112, 1 (2016); Pyykkö, Mol. Phys. 116, 1328 (2018)]. Efforts were made to provide a realistic theoretical uncertainty for the final $Q$ value based on statistical principles and correlation with the magnetic dipole hyperfine interaction constant $A$.

Theoretical Calculation of the Quadratic Zeeman Shift Coefficient of the 3P0 clock state for Strontium Optical Lattice Clock

The quadratic Zeeman shift coefficient of 3P0 clock state for strontium is determined in theory and experiment. In theory, we derived the expression of the quadratic Zeeman shift of 3P0 clock state for 88Sr and 87Sr in the weak-magnetic-field approximation. By using the multi-configuration Dirac-Hartree-Fock theory, the quadratic Zeeman shift coefficients were calculated. To determine the calculated results, the quadratic Zeeman shift coefficient of 3P0,F=9/2,MF=+/-9/2 clock state was measured in our 87Sr optical lattice clock. The calculated results C2=-23.38(5) MHz/T2 for 88Sr and the 3P0,F=9/2,MF=+/-9/2 clock state for 87Sr agree well with the other experimental and theoretical values, especially the most accurate measurement recently. As the 1S0,F=9/2,MF=+/-5/2-3P0,F=9/2,MF=+/-3/2 transitions have been used as another clock transition for less sensitive to the magnetic field noise, we also calculated the quadratic Zeeman shift coefficients for the other magnetic states.

Role of hyperfine interaction in Landé $g$-factors of $^3\!P^o_0$ clock states

In the weak-magnetic-field approximation, we derived a general expression of hyperfine-induced Landé $g$-factors. By using this formula and the multi-configuration Dirac-Hartree-Fock theory, the $g$-factors were calculated for the $3s3p~^3\!P^o_0$ clock state in $^{27}$Al$^+$ and $5s5p~^3\!P^o_0$ in $^{87}$Sr. The present results, $δg^{(1)}_{\rm hfs}(^3\!P^o_0) = -1.183(6) \times 10^{-3}$ for $^{27}$Al$^+$ and $δg^{(1)}_{\rm hfs}(^3\!P^o_0) = 7.78(30) \times 10^{-5}$ for $^{87}$Sr agree with experimental values very well. Our theory is also useful to predict hyperfine-induced Landé $g$-factors for other atomic systems.

Reevaluation of the nuclear electric quadrupole moment for 87Sr by hyperfine structures and relativistic atomic theory

The values of nuclear electric quadrupole moment are different by about 7% for 87Sr nucleus between the recommended value [N. J. Stone, At. Data Nucl. Data Tables 111-112, 1 (2016); P. Pyykko, Mol. Phys. 116, 1328 (2018)] and earlier results [e.g. A. M. Matensson-Pendrill, J. Phys. B: At. Mol. Opt. Phys. 35, 917 (2002); K. Z. Yu et al., Phys. Rev. A 70, 012506 (2004)]. In this work, we reported a new value, Q(87Sr) = 328(4) mb, making use of our calculated electric field gradients produced by electrons at nucleus in combination with experimental values for hyperfine structures of the 5s5p 3P1,2 states of the neutral Sr atom. In the framework of the multi-configuration Dirac-Hartree-Fock theory, the electron correlations were taken into account systematically so as to control the uncertainties of the electric field gradient at about 1% level. The present result is different from the recommended value, but in excellent agreement with those by Matensson-Pendrill and Yu et al.. We would recommend the present Q value as a reference for 87Sr.

Exploration of the magnetic-field-induced $5s5p$~$^3P_0$~-~$5s^2$~$^1S_0$ forbidden transition in bosonic Sr atom

We presented experimental and theoretical studies of the effect of an external magnetic field on the forbidden transition in the bosonic Sr atom. In our ultra-cold atomic system, the excitation fraction of $5s5p$~$^3P_0$~-~$5s^2$~$^1S_0$ forbidden transition was measured under the circumstance of the different magnetic field strengths by using the normalized detection method. Based on perturbation theory, we calculated the magnetic-field-induced $5s5p$~$^3P_0$~-~$5s^2$~$^1S_0$ transition rate. The excitation fraction as a function of the magnetic field strength was deduced according to the calculated results. A good agreement was found between the experimental measurements and the calculations. This study should be helpful in evaluating the magnetic field effects on the forbidden transition rate with higher accuracy. Moreover, it can help to understand the ultra-cold atomic interaction in the external magnetic field.
